The only noise from the home fans was after they scored. Quite a few started leaving after 87 minutes.
Popped into Westfield afterwards, quite a few Happy Hammers there. You didn't have a massive shopping centre next to the Boleyn, all hail the porn kings for moving West Ham...
The nearest drinking establishment we found next to the ground after the game was a bar designed for people in fancy dress gearing up for ABBA Voyage. A far cry from the Upton Park days of East End boozers and pie and mash!

A lot of their delusional supporters are warning each other that everyone is going there this season, treating it as a cup final. Again, I don’t want to piss on our own cornflakes, and I think we put in an outstanding performance, but they slipped down last season by playing shit. Shit in the Prem often means mediocre in the Championship, which can soon become shit in the Championship. It’s only two games in, but IMO they don’t look like a side that will fight to get back up - far from it.1

Watched a few West ham you tubers videos since Saturday and most have been fair, accurate and complimentary to us.
But one last night where one of the above invites his mate to comment. The second guy basically slags us off and calls us a very poor side. I hope we can ram those words back down his throat.
He also said that Watford are a better team than us and a notch above. Shame he didn't realise they failed to beat us last season.1 -

An observation. We started the game with 5 new players from last season. And it is looking like Campbell and Leaburn have gone up a gear. It is probably a bit lazy judging us on last season!2

I think when there manager learn this then they will rise up the league and start to challenge for promotion, but if they don’t learn this quickly that is where they might come unstuck.3

I doubt it honestly, they have struggled so far but I think they'll pull it together eventually. Maybe not consistently enough or quickly enough to go back up this year, but they'll survive.closet_addick said:

The game last week, and the game this:

This victory against West Ham United turned out to be about as good as it gets for Charlton at the present time. They had a sell out crowd of some 63,000, our support was a hardy band of 3000 who had schlepped across the almost Thames delta to the land of Muvva Browns. Yet those 3000 outsang the entire West Ham support for the entirety of the game. That dominance was reflected on the pitch, not in terms of possession and territory, but in terms of planning, teamwork, determination and maximising opportunity wherever possible.
To be honest Charlton Athletic outplayed West Ham in a game where winning was the objective.
Charlton Athletic deserved the win notwithstanding specifics. Yet there were specifics to focus on. Miles Leaburn retained his place after an excellent showing against Derby County, and there was a debut for new signing, goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo.
Both players had fine games, however I hope Leaburn did not pick up an injury because of his battling performance.
Then there are other specifics, Captain and central defender Lloyd Jones found himself in the box following a Carey long throw, so he scored with an overhead bicycle kick just inside the right hand post as centre halves are wont to do!
The game continued on into the second half, as our team that may have cost a total of £1million, absorbed pretty comfortably pressure from a team where the big toe of one of their defenders probably cost £5million. Despite their spend, against Charlton West Ham were simply not that good.
Charlton extended their lead when Miles Leaburn refused to be dominated by one of the West Ham gold plated defenders (who turned out to be cheap 9 carat, not top of the range 22 carat) and freed the ball for Tyreece Campbell to score with beautiful authority. Dreamland for all Charlton fans.
Another two specifics were to come. West Ham pulled a goal back in a manner that was an odd combination of doubtful, scrappy, yet good play well finished by Piero with 15 minutes left to go. Game on thought the West Ham fans, and lo and behold West Ham were awarded a last minute penalty. But if you don’t score your penalties you deserve nowt eh guys? Castellanous hit Okonkwo’s left hand post and that was that.
Nathan Jones as usual managed everything with genuine skill, opponents are blinded to his quality and achievements because all they observe is his touchline behaviour, but when you know you know as they say.
Prior to the match various pundits, bookmakers and assorted West Ham United fans were certain this was a nailed on win for West Ham over their largely disregarded neighbours from just over the river, but for those people this match was about a mystery rolling in from the Thames because Charlton blimmin well won!

They’re not mediocre in any way. They dominated the game on Saturday but Jones plan and the players graft enabled us to do a job on them. Aided no doubt by West Ham’s reluctance for seventy plus minutes to put a ball into the six yard box. I think you have to look to Nuno instructions and coaching as where to look for blame. If they address wanting to pass sideways and back at every opportunity when 25 yards out they’ll be fine. If that’s not addressed in the next couple of months then Nuno will be gone. David Gold RIP. Brady resigned and Sullivan is persona non grata and since the Gold family sold David's shares to the Czech Billionaire Daniel Kretinsky (1890 Holdings) he now have 43% stake compared to Sullivan who now has 39.8 %
Vanessa Gold is the Chairwoman of West ham, possibly a reward for selling the shares to Kretinsky and not Amanda Staveley.
Vanessa stepped up to the plate after the death of her Father David and also at Ann Summers and knickerbox after the death of her older sister Jacqueline.
Vanessa Gold, who was born in 66 is a wealthy woman in her own right now as you can imagine.
Daniel Kretinsky's West ham will finish in the top 8 and probably higher.
I will take Charlton being one place being the Hammers.5 -

Have to give some credit to the ref/linos.
Most seem to think it was a WHU penalty - fair play then. And ...
A) We had two goals against correctly disallowed .. without the "benefit" of VAR.
Ref might easily have blown for a cheap foul by Leaburn in the build up to our 2nd goal, looked like he thought about it, judged it fair .. then
C) The defender who's on the deck after Leaburn's great work then handles the ball as TC picks it up .. ref sees it but waves play on, TC scores.
Nice work ref. What a day.

Quite the compliment in The Athletic's West Ham focussed review of the game
Tyreece Campbell initiated most of Charlton’s attack down the left flank. The winger subjected full-back Kyle Walker-Peters to a tough afternoon with his pace and unpredictability in possession. His performance was a reminder that West Ham do not have a player that offers a similar threat.

Grant makes such a difference. When we were under pressure and managed to give him the ball, he always held it up, won a foul or a throw-in, or found a player and allowed us to break. It stopped us turning the ball over and having to defend against wave after wave of attack which happened a lot last season. The guy is quality.31

Interesting selection headache when we bring in a new RW (JRS or otherwise). The only real weak link so far, and that's harsh, is Carey. The month of August and Charlton go very well together. Long may that last. The team is starting to tick along very nicely. Leaburn is looking very sharp and TC is a potent strike weapon. But it's Coventry I am really impressed with. He appears to be loving every minute of playing alongside seasoned, experienced Championship level players. He just needs to keep his arms down in his own area.
West Ham had loads of possession against us and will do so in every game, but the opposition, just like us, won't care. Many of their players still haven't adapted to Championship graft and grind. As one commentator said on West Ham TV "we came into his league thinking we are the big fish swimming around in a smaller pool but if we don't watch out we'll end up stuck in a League 1 bucket next year".
Unlike a yo yo side such as Burnley who know how to get out of the Championship, the Hammers' mindset, particularly the manager, appears aimless and confused. Could get very toxic very quickly. Oh dear, never mind, I'm sure they will enjoy their trip to the Tool Box on 19 September....not.2 -
A good problem to have, or maybe a good tactical opportunity. Have Grant start and use his nous and experience to wear defenders down, then throw RW at them to finish them off, or use RW to attack and hopefully get a goal or two and bring Grant on to hold things up, win free kicks and throws and see things out.fenaddick said:
