Grant makes such a difference. When we were under pressure and managed to give him the ball, he always held it up, won a foul or a throw-in, or found a player and allowed us to break. It stopped us turning the ball over and having to defend against wave after wave of attack which happened a lot last season. The guy is quality.
Interesting selection headache when we bring in a new RW (JRS or otherwise). The only real weak link so far, and that's harsh, is Carey. But can any of TC, Grant or the RW thrive as a 10?
Either Grant is benched or you play him in the 10. You don’t spent 5M on JRS to bench him it if happens and TC is just a different animal off the left.

Grant isn’t a natural attacking midfielder but he’s definitely the most versatile of our attackers he’s not exceptional at anything in particular but good at many different things

Palace apparently interested in Bowen for £50m. If that’s the case (only a rumour), just enhances how well we did on Saturday. Winning against ex-premier league players, a starting 11 worth £150m, and possibly able to sell one of those players for an amount we could nearly buy back The Valley for.

Roland wants all that money for the Valley, which is not worth anywhere near that much because it can’t be developed for housing.

As for Pall-arse, they are in a mess and I doubt Jared would go there

I thought the ball struck the hand across Conor's chest not his outstretched arm, so surely not a pen? Also their goal looked offside, and Lloyd agreed.
I have just watched on YouTube, a WHU- supporter blog, where all key incidents were slowed down and stopped at the key points. Cc's hand was extended at least a foot, maybe further, from his body. A clearer handball there couldn't be.
Lol, I get that you like to back your fellow officials, but that's just not true is it?

If he caught the ball and then threw it out for a corner, that would be a hell of a lot clearer.

I was supporting the clear cut decision, not the referee
Was at the game with my lad and still buzzing - cracking tactical performance that deserved at least a point. Penalty miss was karma for that ridiculous dive and got us the full 3 points.

Have to give some credit to the ref/linos.

Most seem to think it was a WHU penalty - fair play then. And ...

    A) We had two goals against correctly disallowed .. without the "benefit" of VAR.

    B) Ref might easily have blown for a cheap foul by Leaburn in the build up to our 2nd goal, looked like he thought about it, judged it fair .. then

    C) The defender who's on the deck after Leaburn's great work then handles the ball as TC picks it up ..  ref sees it but waves play on, TC scores.

Nice work ref. What a day.

    Agreed.
It seems mandatory to slag refs off and of course he didn't get all decisions correct but I noticed B and C from above and many refs in the Championship would've given a foul against Miles for the soft touch on his back and he went to blow for the hand ball by the defender but played the advantage and we scored and it was a clear penalty with Conor's hand away from his body. 3 big decisions the ref got correct.

As poor as West Ham have been this season, I'd hedge my bets that they are more likely to be a Premier League team come 2027/28 than Palace.
  • Haven't read everything here and don't know if anyone else noticed NJ going mad at Sonny Carey on the subs bench after he came off slowly and caused the 1 minute delay for Mwamba coming on......... post-match NJ said it was Chalobah but I thought at the time it was Sonny.....?

@Braziliance - just wanted to add my voice to those who support you and enjoy your vlogs...... well done on not stooping to their level of awful behaviour, fwiw I think you've dealt with it all very well and am pleased you have carried on and posted your vlog from Saturday which I very much enjoyed.

Also want to say how brilliantly I think NJ and his team have been in bringing TC and Miles through from the academy to the first team. In my view they've done such a great job in coaching, encouraging, pushing and developing these lads to become proper, proper first team players. It's been a bit of a road these last couple of years or so but all the staff and the lads themselves should be very proud....... and seeing the likes of Alan M and Micah on their journey too, it makes match days even more special!

Grant auditioning for Harry Clarke’s premature celebration mantle. First goal.

Nothing premature there, the ball was past the 'keeper so only a sudden tornado would stop the goal.

We need our wingers fresh and 4 of them will play their part in playing wide of the middle man in the 3 over the duration of a 100 minute match.
Even if JRS came I believe he would struggle to play 3 matches in a week and would play either 60 minutes starting or 30 minutes from the bench. Don't care how much we pay for JRS( will it happen ?) we paid 3 million for Kelman and he was often on the bench and came on in the 2nd half.

Football have moved on with the use of 16 players during a match but many fans still struggle and can't get the hang of game changers from the bench and some rotation to keep players fresh with the Saturday, midweek, Saturday/Sunday matches.

Also rightfully booked the Argentina cheat for diving, which not all refs would have done.

Go home and support Leeds United, if he's that pissed off with West Ham, the effing and Jeffing potty mouth  Tyke.

It comes across as a parody 🤔
The best thing is, IF you watch carefully his nose gets more red as gets himself more wound up!

A Hammers friend of mine instead of congratulating Charlton on their defence complained bitterly that the pen should have been retaken due to encroachment. Its probably already been dealt with earlier but I sent him a message saying END OF  and included this:

"A teammate of the goalkeeper is penalised for encroachment only if: the encroachment clearly impacted on the kicker; orthe encroaching player plays the ball or challenges an opponent for the ball and this prevents the opponents from scoring, attempting to score or creating a goal-scoring opportunity.

So, no retake and how about an apology?

What do you think about the penalty? It hit is hand which was in front of his body not sticking out. One arm was but the ball didn't hit it. Had Coventry had no arms it would have hit his body. Does this come down to arm being in an unnatural position at such close range?

I agree work to do to be in Harry’s league but better effort than any of our other players out there.

Quite the compliment in The Athletic's West Ham focussed review of the game

Tyreece Campbell initiated most of Charlton’s attack down the left flank. The winger subjected full-back Kyle Walker-Peters to a tough afternoon with his pace and unpredictability in possession. His performance was a reminder that West Ham do not have a player that offers a similar threat.

I’m not enjoying all this good publicity for TC whilst we still don’t have his new contract sorted out!

I understand how things can be subjective, especially in the heat of the moment. But I just don’t see why anyone can think it’s not a penalty.

None of our players on the pitch disputed it at the time, and our manager after the game said it was the correct decision as well.

100% a penalty. If that’s not given we might as well do away with the handball rule.

It hit his left hand, which was in front of his face, an instinctive action for protection...🤷‍♂️

The way of the world is unfortunately, when guys like yourself make an effort & put yourself out there in the limelight, you attract the good, the bad and the ugly. That’s unavoidable. Never take it personally and thank your lucky stars you’re the bloke you are. Onwards & Upwards.

Love it @Braziliance even though I'm making a tit of myself behind you in some of those shots lol

Keep doing your thing mate. Its always a good watch, and extra points for keeping your cool after the insults.

Coventry's left hand was in front of his face when the ball hit it from pretty close range. I know it doesn't matter but the laws regarding penalties are so confusing that I wouldn't mind inderstanding them better.

Quite surreal for me with the guy having a distinctive Yorkshire accent and declaring that he was from Leeds
The wife might instead have said on his return home
"ello luv owt appen at match"
