Don’t post anymore on here these days, thankfully to some of the posters on here but
I got shot down a bit, for generalising against some of the more pessimistic fans on here let’s say.

But just wanted to make a point even further clear, that I think that it’s been completely embarrassing how some of you have acted on here over this summer transfer.

Regardless of results in first 2 games, you haven’t backed the club, ridiculed the recruitment and panicked before the window has even shut or got going.

Some will ultimately get their back up with this post and that’s fine but the posts on here over the summer from most have been laughable. A genuine lack of understanding how football clubs and systems work.

Hats off to NJ and recruitment team because, again, the squad has been improved and we’re moving in a positive direction.

We should all feel lucky as to where we are now and where we were, not even 3 seasons ago.

The moaning that our business was slow was just ridiculous. We are pretty much the most ready team in the championship at the moment and have been ahead of most teams all summer. And we are hopefully about to benefit with 3 wins from our first 3 games against teams that have not done what we have in getting our business done early
Genuinely been a 9/10 window when the biggest issue personally is unnecessarily spending 1-1.5M on a winger it’s shown we’ve done minimal things wrong this summer

  • I like everything I’ve seen of Kanu and I suspect we’d regret letting him go long-term. I think his hard work off the ball suits NJ style of play and I think he’s the most natural finisher, bar Godden, in the squad. Mbick could benefit from a L1 loan, Kanu needs an opportunity with us this season.
  • Long time lurker but lifetime fan. Seen so many false dawns as to not get carried away. Two great opening results, but seen too many times the optimism get popped very quickly. Preston is not a given and is what I regard a real test of where we are at as a team.

Know it’s not transfer related but most of this thread is unrelated bollocks 😂

We don’t exactly have a choice if Kanu wants to go and 1yr left on his deal, we may regret it long term but can’t hoard players in the short term but should at least put a sell on in to protect ourselves.

No point having a finisher when ur 3 behind the striker (eg,. JRS, Carey, TC, Grant) are more scoring focused and focus on taking on their opponent opposed to supplying the striker with quality chances.

Mbick and Leaburn are going to do much better in this system than our other forwards

Couldn’t agree more mate! Wouldn’t have been able to achieve what we have without some patience.
Strange when I believe that was what was said was needed before the window even opened…

At this present moment mate I would take being both!

I will be pleased and relieved if JRS signs, as I think he will strengthen our first XI, and we are unlikely to sign anyone else as good at this late stage of the window.  However, in an ideal world, I would rather we had signed, for a similar amount of money, Jordan Holsgrove, or someone of that ilk, as we will still be left with a paper-thin midfield that will look vulnerable if Chalobah is injured. And that was obviously NJ's strategy for the window, too.

On another matter, why has no report been posted of our u18's 3-1 win over Huddersfield on Saturday?
Given our recent history of dreadful injury records and paper thin squads I think depth is always a big part of the puzzle, however in the position you reference we currently have Coventry, Chalobah, Ouma, Mwamba, Docherty and (if need be) JRC and even Carey who NJ I think ideally wants to play deeper. I’m not sure there’s space for much more realistically, even if one goes out
Chalobah is notoriously injury prone. if he were not, he would not be with us because he is real class.

Ouma is a punt.  He be wonderful or may be crap. We will not know until which months after the window closes.

Mwamba we have great hopes for, but has looked lost in his two cameos so far, so may take some months to be worth a place in the team.

Docherty, JRC and Carey are all crap and should be nowhere a Championship side. JRC is onw of the worst players I have ever seen in a Charlton shirt. He finds it hard to break into a slow trot. Maybe our best passer, but that is not enough.

Coventry has played really well this season. So much better without Docherty confusing him. But that is only three games. After three seasons of League One standard play, where he looked solid but unenterprising, I have yet to be convinced he will maintain his new level.

We need a rugged box-to-box MF in there who can defend when called on. Someone like George Dobson. I know we cannot sign him, because a section of posters throw temper tantrums at the thought of re-signing former players, but someone of that type. Sam Morsy would have been ideal. He left on a free.

So, four pages of Carey v Knibbs with a bit of JRC and JRS thrown in for good measure.
Perhaps consider starting your own thread, where you can continue your never ending criticism of  CL members? We'll all know where it is so we won't have to accidentally start reading it?
One of the best posts on this long thread.

Incredible that we are trying to figure out which 4-5 players need to be moved on, permanent or loan, to reach the needed squad size, and Chelsea currently have 39 senior players on their books! An insane amount of hoarding there and don’t see how they ‘fix’ that by 1st September.

TBH (to be honest  ;) ) thats's low, somewhere nice its around 400-450k

He’s nowhere near the worst, even for the level we are at. Seriously. He’s not even the worst player in our squad.

I like everything I’ve seen of Kanu and I suspect we’d regret letting him go long-term. I think his hard work off the ball suits NJ style of play and I think he’s the most natural finisher, bar Godden, in the squad. Mbick could benefit from a L1 loan, Kanu needs an opportunity with us this season.
I personally think Kanu would really struggle playing up front on his own in the championship. Mbick is a lot bigger and stronger and therefore more suited to that role. I just think Kanu would get bullied a bit. If we were still playing last seasons system then I think Kanu might have been kept on and given a chance in a front 2 but the 4-2-3-1 means he probably has to go

I think people on here are just quite bad at being balanced. Last season we'd just gone up and we were making multi-million £ signings which got people excited because we hadn't done that in years. We bought a lot of good players from L1 and they didn't all work out. People got over-excited when the signings came in and then overly critical when some of them didn't play that well because they felt scorned. Plenty of talk about how Jones shouldn't be allowed near the money. Now this window has had almost relentless criticism and complaining; it's been too slow, the players aren't exciting enough and we haven't spent enough money. Moaning about us signing a released Millwall full back (who has over 150 Championship appearances), feeling underwhelmed by the Grant signing (more than 50 Championship goals), upset by the other players not costing enough. Now we've had a good start though and there's talk of JRS coming in and suddenly people are talking about a great window again, which we won't know until way down the line. I don't understand people's tendency to get dragged across from one extreme to the other, it sounds exhausting. We did enough in the transfer market last season to stay up and put foundations in place and hopefully we'll do enough this time round to kick on a bit and not struggle all season. Either way you can't really judge a window until the next one, or even the end of the season in some cases
    Excellent post, fully agree

JRC is not awful but he isn’t good enough for us at this level.  I’d rather have Doc as the midfield backup for his leadership and mobility.  Especially if Holsgrove suddenly comes a back to life we’ll need engines in the engine room and JRC runs like he’s carrying an engine

Kanu is on a really awkward situation.  Unlikely to sign a new deal as he wants to play but needs L1 experience however there aren’t many that can afford a £1m punt on a young player who is a sniffer but doesn’t do a huge amount else for the team apart from run a lot.  His basic technique is fairly limited but his finishing is superb. Maybe someone like Huddersfield splash a bit of cash on him but it’s a risk.  Not sure Leicester would be good for his development but they may be able to afford him.  Best bet is we get a smaller fee but have a large sell-on clause.

Kamikazi - forgotten man already.  Doubt we’ll get much of a fee if he goes but so be it.  He’s guff

Burke - if we need to thin the squad I’d be inclined to shift him if possible.  Adequate defender but made of glass.

Jones disagrees with you about JRC vs Docherty .  If we shift Burke, he’d need to be replaced.  I think we all agree that Bell and Ramsay would not be suited to playing centre back in a 4, which leaves us with Jones, Billy and Sichenje (totally unproven) who are if Burke goes .

You're still a mile off. Just in the not so distant past we've had Yassin Moutaouakil, Lee Cook, Dean Sinclair, Izale McLeod, that version of Andy Gray, Matt Spring, Tresor Kandol, Keith Gillespie, Graeme Murty, Martin Cranie, Tom Soares, Salim Kerkar, Danny Seaborne, Eggert Jonsson, Abdul Razak, Simon Church, Loic Nego, Polish Pete, Reza, Yohann Thuram, Marcus Tudgay, Davide Petrucci, Franck Moussa, Oguchi Onyewu, Christophe Lepoint, George Tucudean, El-Hadji Ba, Christian Ceballos, Bergdich, Vaz Te, McAleny, Makienok, Rhys Williams, Yaya Sanogo, Hemed, Ledley, David Davis, Matt Smith, all at Championship level. And that's not even all the absolute creatures we've had to suffer at this level. JRC hasn't had a lot of opportunities and it doesn't look like he fits in that well with Jones' style but that performance against Coventry alone puts him ahead of the majority of these immediately. There's more to come from JRC, whether or not Jones can fully extract it I don't know, but my God. One of the worst? When Salim Kerkar exists? Behave.

My predictions are 1) Doc gets released on a free to a Scottish club 2) Kaminsky ends up in the Netherlands or Belgium for an undisclosed fee at the end of the window (probably for 1 million or a little less) 3) Asiimwe is loaned out to league two side. 4) Kanu is sold on the last day of the window for much lower than the 1 million asking price 5) Apter is loaned back to Blackpool with us covering a majority of his wages. 6) Kelman is left out of the 25 man roster until the January window due to injury.  Burke is left out of the 25 man roster with no takers
Excellent set of predictions. If that all happens I would be impressed with management. I suspect NJ will try to hang on to Burke unless there are no other options. Burke is one of his cronies.

When I suggested releasing Docherty on a free in acknowledgement of his service, I was abused for wanting to run the club as a charity.

Why the hell would you leave your best striker out the 25 when he back fit and ready to play !!!!
He obviously shouldn’t be left out .  I’m intrigued to see the pecking order though when everyone is fit .
    Leaburn, Godden, Kelman, Mbick probably.

Mbick, Kelman, Leaburn, Godden by the end of the season!
Think you are over egging Mbick at the moment.
    100% Accurate.

Has struggled every single time that he’s been subbed on for us.
So the one game he’s subbed on after a big injury when we’re parking the bus away from home against the biggest and beside in the league.

Because surely ur not basing it off what he was doing as a 17 year old before he even had his breakout in professional football.

Can’t write a youngster coming off an injury against West Ham away
Jones had the confidence to enter Mbick into the fray on Saturday in a game in front of 60k fans against the favourites to win the league and at a time when we were well and truly under the cosh. I think that tells you all you need to know about Mbick.
