I thought the ball struck the hand across Conor's chest not his outstretched arm, so surely not a pen? Also their goal looked offside, and Lloyd agreed.
I have just watched on YouTube, a WHU- supporter blog, where all key incidents were slowed down and stopped at the key points. Cc's hand was extended at least a foot, maybe further, from his body. A clearer handball there couldn't be.
Lol, I get that you like to back your fellow officials, but that's just not true is it?

If he caught the ball and then threw it out for a corner, that would be a hell of a lot clearer.

I was supporting the clear cut decision, not the referee
What do you think about the penalty? It hit is hand which was in front of his body not sticking out. One arm was but the ball didn't hit it. Had Coventry had no arms it would have hit his body. Does this come down to arm being in an unnatural position at such close range?
As I said earlier on, I have seen a "still" on YouTube at the exact second ball and hand came together. His arm and hand were some distance from his body at the point of contact. A clear penalty.

Have they retrospectively given the penalty as a goal now?, no?, in that case it  doesn’t fucking matter!!!! 😂
  • Nuno said they let down 62 thousand West ham fans !
    Wrong.
There were 3001 CAFC fans in the two sections of the away end plus at least 3001 Charlton fans scattered across the stadium.

Just like Greg Rutherford and his giant leap to win Gold in 2012, Charlton took a flying leap up the table on another Super Saturday.

22/8/26 was a beautiful day for all Addicks.

Only 3001 given for away fans seems a ridiculous small amount - isnt there, or shouldn't there be a fair minimum?
It’s pretty standard and also very understandable given they sold out the home ends too. They only had to give us 2k

It’s a 1000 more than the league minimum.
    under 5%?

Are people still going on about Tanto's goal at Sheff Utd last season?

These two are the best I can manage. To me they both look like his hands are away from his body

I am not a tech person. However I spent all morning trying to find the Palace fan blog on YouTube, but there are so many I couldn't find it. I will try again tomorrow

West Ham had loads of possession against us and will do so in every game, but the opposition, just like us, won't care.

This is a very strange sentence.

Some really good analysis there of both teams. And Ali mentions the awful dive by Taty and poetic justice that he then misses the penalty.

You are not the only person on here who should !

What I find strange is that anyone thought it wasn't a penalty as Coventry wasn't right on top of the West ham player and his both hands were clearly away from his body at time of impact.
Thank fuck the cheat missed the penalty as Conor needs some lessons on how to face a shot when you are inside the box.

A lot of pundits trying to sound smart after the event talking about how we would feed off their uncertainty and a Nathan Jones team is the perfect side to take advantage of any complacency or tentativeness West Ham might have shown.

Truth is very few (if any?) were brave enough to say it before the game.

However, even if it is being said in hindsight, it is absolutely true and there was always an opportunity there for us by playing them so early. Give them a month or two get acclimatised to the division and I suspect they'll become a very different prospect (a bit like Southampton last season), and may well get their revenge at the Valley, but you never know.

I'm very proud of how well we played on Saturday. I am also a bit irked by just how much of a shock this is being made out to be. This wasn't some lower league minnow knocking out a Premier League team in the cup. It was two championship sides and we have good players and are built to be defensively solid and to counter punch... hard. And we did just that. Yes, the late penalty miss went our way, but that's just part of the game. The result on the day was no fluke.

I hope the players understand this as an indication of our potential and see it as setting the bar, not some flash in the pan upset. It's early in the season and there will be lows to come, but, based on what I've seen so far, I think there's also more highs to come and we could be especially good away from home. I'm certain NJ will be thinking the same way and mainlining self-belief into the players.

We love Lloyd Jones but why is he standing on the six yard line ? All that does is obscure the view for Arthur.
Also Conor as I say above needs to be a yard further forward right on top of the player who takes the shot.

Well done with the pic , I attempted to but was much too blurry each attempt but that shows his left(the one it strikes) and right arm away from his body and at the point of contact and angle of the shot it’s not hitting his face and is without doubt a 100% penalty .
There is no way it isn’t and if it was the other way round everyone would be calling the ref a cheat .

Watching on the stream as soon as it happened I thought it was a penalty.
I actually wasn’t downhearted at the time because I thought an away point against a moneybags team would be a great result, and for me it wasn’t despair turned to joy when the bloke missed so much as ‘good, three juicy points instead of one’.

My feeling when they missed was about 20% yes we've won, 30% oh my fucking god what is that diving prick DOING hahaha and 50% praise God, for He doth no longer desire Conor Coventry as His scapegoat ;)

Lloyd was on the 6 yard line as he would have headed the incoming shot clear.

Not sure if you have even done any coaching Bollox but having one defender back on the 6 yard line when the others are further forward is on many occasions allowing the opposition to score and not be offside.
With the sort of game that Lloyd was having he would've probably headed the ball clear but all the professional coaches I know including 3 guys* at the odious Chelsea alway said the defenders need to hold a good line with no one hanging back unless a winger have got pass a full back and crossed the ball in from an advanced position, when obviously that is a different scenario.

*Knew them as young coaches in the Kent league or Isthmian South east.

Very true, I’m hoping we are going full circle, we used to always punch above our weight, people have forgotten that, us fans included, there was a time when Charlton turning over the big dog became unsurprising to people. Feel like we are on our way back👍
