Feels like you should have ended this with, "your boys took one hell of a beating!. Amazing work.Garrymanilow said:
You're still a mile off. Just in the not so distant past we've had Yassin Moutaouakil, Lee Cook, Dean Sinclair, Izale McLeod, that version of Andy Gray, Matt Spring, Tresor Kandol, Keith Gillespie, Graeme Murty, Martin Cranie, Tom Soares, Salim Kerkar, Danny Seaborne, Eggert Jonsson, Abdul Razak, Simon Church, Loic Nego, Polish Pete, Reza, Yohann Thuram, Marcus Tudgay, Davide Petrucci, Franck Moussa, Oguchi Onyewu, Christophe Lepoint, George Tucudean, El-Hadji Ba, Christian Ceballos, Bergdich, Vaz Te, McAleny, Makienok, Rhys Williams, Yaya Sanogo, Hemed, Ledley, David Davis, Matt Smith, all at Championship level. And that's not even all the absolute creatures we've had to suffer at this level. JRC hasn't had a lot of opportunities and it doesn't look like he fits in that well with Jones' style but that performance against Coventry alone puts him ahead of the majority of these immediately. There's more to come from JRC, whether or not Jones can fully extract it I don't know, but my God. One of the worst? When Salim Kerkar exists? Behave.wolfgang said:
My first match at the Valley was August 31, 1957: Charlton Athletic 2–0 Grimsby Town. Leary scored both goals, one direct from a corner. I had watched them two or three times previously at Stamford Bridge with my Chelsea-supporting father and brother. I was the red sheep of the family.TellyTubby said:
FFS, Is this your first season watching Charlton?wolfgang said:
Chalobah is notoriously injury prone. if he were not, he would not be with us because he is real class.ns9 said:
Given our recent history of dreadful injury records and paper thin squads I think depth is always a big part of the puzzle, however in the position you reference we currently have Coventry, Chalobah, Ouma, Mwamba, Docherty and (if need be) JRC and even Carey who NJ I think ideally wants to play deeper. I’m not sure there’s space for much more realistically, even if one goes outwolfgang said:I will be pleased and relieved if JRS signs, as I think he will strengthen our first XI, and we are unlikely to sign anyone else as good at this late stage of the window. However, in an ideal world, I would rather we had signed, for a similar amount of money, Jordan Holsgrove, or someone of that ilk, as we will still be left with a paper-thin midfield that will look vulnerable if Chalobah is injured. And that was obviously NJ's strategy for the window, too.
On another matter, why has no report been posted of our u18's 3-1 win over Huddersfield on Saturday?
Ouma is a punt. He be wonderful or may be crap. We will not know until which months after the window closes.
Mwamba we have great hopes for, but has looked lost in his two cameos so far, so may take some months to be worth a place in the team.
Docherty, JRC and Carey are all crap and should be nowhere a Championship side. JRC is onw of the worst players I have ever seen in a Charlton shirt. He finds it hard to break into a slow trot. Maybe our best passer, but that is not enough.
Coventry has played really well this season. So much better without Docherty confusing him. But that is only three games. After three seasons of League One standard play, where he looked solid but unenterprising, I have yet to be convinced he will maintain his new level.
We need a rugged box-to-box MF in there who can defend when called on. Someone like George Dobson. I know we cannot sign him, because a section of posters throw temper tantrums at the thought of re-signing former players, but someone of that type. Sam Morsy would have been ideal. He left on a free.
When I wrote "one of the worst", I meant for the level we were playing at. We may have had worse in the lower divisions. Hard to compare. Charlie Kirk was worse, but I only said "one of the worst", not "the worst".6 -

Good post.Garrymanilow said:I think people on here are just quite bad at being balanced. Last season we'd just gone up and we were making multi-million £ signings which got people excited because we hadn't done that in years. We bought a lot of good players from L1 and they didn't all work out. People got over-excited when the signings came in and then overly critical when some of them didn't play that well because they felt scorned. Plenty of talk about how Jones shouldn't be allowed near the money. Now this window has had almost relentless criticism and complaining; it's been too slow, the players aren't exciting enough and we haven't spent enough money. Moaning about us signing a released Millwall full back (who has over 150 Championship appearances), feeling underwhelmed by the Grant signing (more than 50 Championship goals), upset by the other players not costing enough. Now we've had a good start though and there's talk of JRS coming in and suddenly people are talking about a great window again, which we won't know until way down the line. I don't understand people's tendency to get dragged across from one extreme to the other, it sounds exhausting. We did enough in the transfer market last season to stay up and put foundations in place and hopefully we'll do enough this time round to kick on a bit and not struggle all season. Either way you can't really judge a window until the next one, or even the end of the season in some cases
There is a saying "don't let perfect be the enemy of good".
For some, but certainly not all or even the majority, unless the transfers are all done very early, are all expensive, are well known and all proven, the window is not perfect so must be woeful, terrible and certain relegation awaits.
The reality is that some signings will turn out to be very good, some OK and some poor, it was always thus but we have signed players in positions we needed to strengthen and which allow us to play a different formation.
We have, so far, retained our key talents. Jones has extended his contract and fingers crossed Campbell and Ramsay will do the same soon.
All this on a budget lower than most others in the division.
It's not perfect but, so far, it has been good.10 -
Well played Charlton Athletic. That's a proper contract6
-
@Garrymanilow including Tucudean on that list has upset me so much I'm only 'utterly delighted' by the TC news rather than 'bouncing off the fucking walls'4
-
Also, Matt Spring was terrible but he did score the winner last time we played Palace in the league iirc so maybe he deserves an exemption too5

Early time to announce TC, maybe something else today?7

Well done cafc .0

I saw that list of players and several raised a smirk. Then I saw Simon Church and physically shuddered. Now he WAS one of the worst players I’ve ever had the dubious pleasure to watch in a Charlton shirt!2

He stands out massively from almost everyone else on that list because he put a massive fucking shift in every week, even if he couldn't kick the ball properlySwisdom said:I saw that list of players and several raised a smirk. Last line of Cawley's substack on TC contract extension is this:
"That might not be the end of the positivity this week."68 -
Sending Mbick out on loan would send all the wrong messages to our academy players and their parents and agents. There’s a reason we rejected significant bids from Brighton, he’s one of our best prospects and is ready to start coming off the bench and impacting our first team.Making_all_the_noise said:I like everything I’ve seen of Kanu and I suspect we’d regret letting him go long-term. I think his hard work off the ball suits NJ style of play and I think he’s the most natural finisher, bar Godden, in the squad. Mbick could benefit from a L1 loan, Kanu needs an opportunity with us this season.
I watched the 2nd half vs West Ham back last night as the stream stopped working on Saturday. The criticism from some that Mbick and Mwamba struggled is unfair, they barely touched the ball as West Ham dominated posssesion so much. When they did have it they both had some good moments.
NJ is no doubt aiming high to see where it takes us, he wouldn’t include them unless they were good enough. They’ve both made huge progress in the last couple of years and there’s plenty more to come.

Thanks, was done a couple of weeks ago.Laddick01 said:4 -
Rich Cawley just said might be a positive end to the week too 🤞🏻🤞🏻5

TC on a 4 year contract! He’s looked so much happier the last couple of weeks. As we all are! Fantastic news!2

I read reviews of Sheff Utd fans on JRS - they loved him at the start but he tailed off when he began to be double marked….
just like TC last year
so what will teams to when both are playing? There will be gaps to exploit. All we need now is someone who can pick the lock and find that space…step forward Mr Holsgrove?!?

I was waiting for something to happen this morning which would get the JRS freight train to leave the station again. If nothing else we’ve tied TC to a big contract which is enough good news for todayTheHerminator said:
