I think the Pratley comparison when it comes to being limited technically isn't doing Darren justice - always thought he was more tidy than people gave him credit for.8
-
Pratley played in a very technical Swansea side, that tried to pass the ball like prime Barcelona. Even if his role in the side was a defensive one, you don't get to play in such a team if all you can do is run and tackle.LittleAddick said:I think the Pratley comparison when it comes to being limited technically isn't doing Darren justice - always thought he was more tidy than people gave him credit for.2 -
Exactly, while nearly getting into double figures from midfield.killerandflash said:

He very rarely gave the ball away for us.2 -
I don't think he was that good technically, and I heard him say it himself a few times, but it's all about opinions at the end of the day. And he was good for us.
Still, I know people don't enjoy NJ's brand of football, but I've never disliked watching us more than the Pratson era...1 -
Not sure Pratley deserves to be in the same breath as Watson. I’ll give you foley and crofts as an even worse era .Chunes said:I don't think he was that good technically, and I heard him say it himself a few times, but it's all about opinions at the end of the day. And he was good for us.

This is some genuinely breathtaking revisionism lmao. You should be forced to watch every game we played in that era with your eyes held open like in A Clockwork OrangeLittleAddick said:

This was worse though, yes. And Gilbey/Arter was somehow even worse than thatwmcf123 said:

Granted I missed that era. Was living abroad and that was before the days of watching games on a stream. Seems I did myself a favour there.wmcf123 said:

Was it against Portsmouth when Arter, Watson and Gilbey all played . Somehow we didn’t lose .Leuth said:

Think it's a shame we're only remembering Pratley for his last season when he was 36 by the end of it! And not the two before that where he played a crucial role.Leuth said:

Sad to lose Karoy and i'm sure we wouldn't have let him go if we were in league one which is about hai standard now. He definitely needed and needs regular first team league one football.
Wouldn't be at all surprised to see him jn the championship next season or the season after. If we are super lucky he won't get to play against us....as we will have been promoted 😃4 -
I can see him rejoining us in the future1
-
Think it’s not beyond the realms of possibility he will be playing on the champ next year if he carries on. If not with them - can see someone taking a punt on him3
-
Was generally loved here but he couldn’t play with the ball which is why he is a L1 footballer, but has every attribute for fans to love him not surprised he’s getting on well and very much glad he isAddicksAddict said:They're loving him at the seaside: https://www.facebook.com/bfcgazette/posts/pfbid0BKK85NNUjVpJxzv3zd1J2aCZ2HvCtshmaBKLagep45h13cHJH87De451JaZT8LTil2 -

Swap him back for Apter!2 -
A good league one player, and one who can do a job for a scrapping Championship side. Which was us last season, but hopefully won't be going forward.1
-
Can’t help but think he’s a real NJ player and would have liked him over JRC on weekend for example. Better engine than all our midfielders3
-
I suspect he wanted to go to play games regularly and not just 7-10 minutes here and there .5

Johnnie Jackson arrived as a left back and developed into the goal scoring midfield legend we all remember.NabySarr said:
There are countless examples of players getting better at finishing, crossing, set piece delivery, passing range, heading etc and these are all technical skills. The idea you don’t improve much technically after 20 is just wrong, why are players practicing all these skills all week if it isn’t to get better at them?ElliotCAFC said:
I see both points, you will definitely get better tactically as you age and play more games. Technically I’m not so sure, you kind of have what you have by the age of 20, the rest is mostly in-game intelligence.NabySarr said:
I’m sorry what! You can’t get better technically after the age of 21??? That is a ridiculous thing to say. Of course you can get much better at his agewmcf123 said:
You can’t sadly learn technical ability at his age . You can learn nous and experience and so, with a good attitude and his mobility, he should have a league one careerSwisdom said:I’m a bit disappointed in truth - I was hoping the Blackpool loan would be his “Scott Parker Norwich City loan” moment and he’d come back as a man.
i think his physicality will mean he has a decent career and if he has a good, full season in League 1 with a promotion chasing team he would then make the step up. He’s still only 21 so game time will improve him
all the best Karoy, wherever you’re off to.
He can 100% still improve technically, and he can also improve his decision making which will mean he makes the right decisions on the ball more often. He needs to play regularly to do this though which is why he needed the move. Can easily see Karoy becoming a championship footballer but I think the judgement we’ve made is he won’t get there in the next 2 years which means we’re better off getting ridKaroy’s issue has never been his technique, its decision making and handling the ball under pressure. I expect that to improve over the years and I think he will be in the Championship at some point.0 -
He had been a premier league midfielder with spurs though, albeit briefly . Not really sure why he ended up at ColchesterLenGlover said:

I need to stop it with this wrong thread bollocks. Still waking up here. Like the players.3

Wore the captain’s armband today. Unfortunately they could only manage a 2-2 draw against Bromley.6

His engine wasn't the problem.WoolwichAddick said:Can’t help but think he’s a real NJ player and would have liked him over JRC on weekend for example. Better engine than all our midfielders
It's his lack of ability to pass to a team mate unless he knocked it 5 yards backwards that is his biggest area to work on.
I wish him the very best. Nice lad.3
