  • That said, didn’t Abu Kamara bin off his greedy agent to force a move to Pompey? Obviously not completely sure of the circumstances but at least from an outsiders view it doesn’t seem too dissimilar.

We’ve had to pull out, which is absolutely the right decision, but still a gutting one for the club and fans. Onto the next…

Thanks for the update mate. What a shit 24 hours or so for Nathan Jones
Fuck Nathan Jones, he'll survive i'm sure, the man who put out that abortion of a team tonight. Feel sorry for JR-S and TC actually, his friend and clearly a sensitive guy who i'm sure was looking forward to this, the two injured players also.

Where’s Stjohnshill when you need them?
Them? Is StJohnshill a syndicate of ITKs?

Other forum claiming Rak Sakyi was done. Media photos all done, and then an agent was demanding more money. Sickening.
Don’t think that’s true. Not going to be about injured centre halves either though.

I just can’t see us cancelling an absolutely necessary rw who has the potential to be worth 15 -20 mill in the future for a cb who is a stop gap until billy is fit. I’d seriously question the intelligence of the recruitment team and smt if that were the case

It has to be jones being jones and just speaking with emotion.
To adapt a wise old saw, "Forwards can win you matches, centre-backs can prevent you from being relegated".

We have no idea if he means JRC is not coming
I would love to think he does mean that.

Kanu can get sold for just under a million?
Apter can be sold if needed for over a million?
Asiimwe and Docherty for a million combined ish?

Surely we can cough up enough money to spend on CBs whilst keeping the cogs moving on JRS
So pleased that while everyone is being miserable, you are still up for a good laugh.

We have been trying to sell Kanu since the end of last season. I think we had a couple of offers to take him on loan on terms unacceptable to him and/or us. Problem is, he wants, and deserves, to play at League One level and not many clubs there have high six-figure sums to spend. But now we are, through no fault of our own, in the shit again, I guess we will have to sell at cut price, say 500,000.

Apter has blown his career by falling out with NJ, and even more by failing to win a place in League One last season. Someone may take a punt on him for 250,000, but no more than that. His fall is reminiscent of Charlie Kirk, though not as drastic.

Docherty will leave on a free, or for a nominal sum, say 50,000.

I can see someone wanting Asiimwe for 200,000 if they watched him tonight.

Total: one million max if all goes well.

I’d like to think that there’s a conversation to be had with the owners where money can be brought forward again like it was with Sichenje - for all the good that’s done - and we don’t have to miss out on a key signing because of an injury. Time for Rodwell to earn his keep
If I were asking the owners for extra cash, I would not bring up the case of Sichenje as a precedent.
  • Well, regardless of how or why we won’t be signing JRS, I guess at least it’ll give us a bit more of an action filled rest of the transfer window now as we’ll be needing to move onto an alternative RW and now also potentially some more defensive options.

In hindsight, things were going way too smoothly for us to have had all of our business done with a week left of the window. It’s just not the Charlton way. Strap in folks.

Funny, I had assumed from your posts that you were permanently pissed.

A few people need to calm down and wait their turn with the Charlton Life Doom Mongers' shared brain cell before posting.
A few weeks ago this board was in uproar because the owners were selling the club. Never hear anything about that now. Curbs' philosophy of highs and lows did not take deep root on this board.

I'm.assuming JRS signed yesterday and if so we can't just rip up his contract.

I'm hoping NK was more talking about deals out for players like Assiimee rather than JRS.

But we'll see in the morning.
Yeah I'm struggling to make head or tail as to what was actually meant , hopefully you're more along the right lines with us now having to use a squad spot on Asiimwe for example which would weren't planning on having to do and that causing a bit of a rethink on the squad outs as opposed to " we can't sign JRS now we need to spend £2-4m on more CBs"
I just don't understand how NJ as the manager and therefore pretty much the mouthpiece of the club can spout such utter bollocks
I sense the start of a "Jones Out" movement. Good news, I can get a great deal on plastic pigs.

Not to be dramatic or anything but think this is up there as one of my worst days ever as a Charlton fan

Was originally pissed off at the team selection, and felt we were unnecessarily embarrassed when we could have given it a good go tonight with a stronger team.
That all becomes pretty irrelevant now and the least of our worries as it’s now most likely blown our big money deal for JRS.

Just when things start looking genuinely positive for us with a 100% perfect start in the league, a brilliant atmosphere in and around the club, immense positivity from supporters, and it all comes crashing down again, in typical Charlton fashion. It really is the hope that kills you.

I’m going to bed in a proper mood & I worry we’ll just continue this tomorrow. Night everyone.
Did you recently start supporting us?
Rather unoriginal question. It has come up four times in the last week that I have noticed. Once posed to me, bloody cheek!

If JR-S is really off, I hope we can resurrect the Holsgrove deal. If that is off too, bid for George Dobson, That should still leave cash for a CB.

Got burke, mesik and Bell. Doubt we'll bring another one in.
You can basically write off Burke. He's injured again and we can't rely on him being fit for more than 5 games
Bell is also fragile, in weeks where we play Sat-Tues-Sat there's always a risk that he might break down.
Mesik we haven't seen enough of.

We definitely need another CB in, even if it's a 6 month loan.

For the time being, we can get by with Bell - Mesik - Jones - McNamara, that's a solid back 4. But there is zero cover.
  • Fingers crossed it was just Jones being dramatic. If you're going to spend 4-5m on a winger then suddenly needing defensive cover that you can get on loan really shouldn't impact that at all.

If it does impact anything then i'd imagine it's for another signing (maybe Holsgrove?). Yes Cawley did say that he thought we'd only be making one more signing, but i'm pretty sure Cawley doesn't know every deal the club are looking at.

Doesn't sound good. When Cawley said it isn't done till it's done. Think he knew something in the background could pull the plug.

Could have been a number of things..
    1) Medical failed?
    2) Palace received a higher bid
    3) Owners pull money
    4) JRS has something hanging over him.

    Who knows.. But very disappointing.

Would Spurs loan us Conor Gallagher? He didn’t get a look in tonight. Mind you his wages for the season probably equals the JRS transfer fee
There is probably more chance of you playing for Charlton this season. He's on about 160k a week.

I'd guess at least 7-8 PL clubs would want him if he was put up for loan.
