Not sour grapes at all, but I am in no hurry to return to that stadium unless John Bonham comes back to life and Led Zeppelin play there.
The journey to and from was horrible, the steps to the seats were endless (for all that money no lifts or escalators), and architecturally it seemed rather odd and yes indeed soulless. I think the general reputation comes from the media and people who only experience the so called enhanced pay extra fancy stuff, who don’t share the experience of an ordinary fan, and people think it’s great (certainly before they visit) because loads of people have kept going on about it being great.
I am not much of a person to embrace the ‘modern’ but the old White Hart Lane may have been crumbling but I found it to be a far more red blooded exciting stadium than the thing last night.
I didn’t try the catering because of the prices and it not having any decent food, sounds like it was a good decision.
Where do they get the money for all the spending on a new stadium and all those players? I don’t think it is from ticket sales and I assume they have massive debt that they believe will never get called in.
Don’t laugh too loud, but an away game at Leyton Orient is better authentic football fun than that incongruous Tottenham Hotspur ‘experience’ the type one might give as a one off present to somebody like a day’s scuba diving or a balloon flight.

FU*K this game, FU*k Spurs tactics, and FU*k the pitch, things sound like they have gone tits up thanks to this game with the injuries , even the JRS deal looks scuppered...so THANK FU*K TO LAST NIGHT...😖😖😖😖

Well said Prague. Lee Bowyer pissed us all off in 2018/19 by crashing out of this cup with a load of nevergonnabees, saying that we are never going to win the League Cup. In May, the side on the pitch had enough energy to score a late winner v Sunderland. Making him 100% correct.

I'm glad I went, I'm a tourist for the big games, lucky to get a seat for this and no I'm not going to West Brom, been there done that.

I think we underestimate the sway of the bookies in keeping these dumb competitions going. This cup started to help pay for the new floodlights that clubs were putting in, it's not really needed.

Can I state one positive from a nightmare evening:

Alan Mwamba is a player who should be involved every week in the 16 players used. We are going to need to rest Chalobah with the 3 games a week schedule at least for 1 of the games in any week.
Mwamba looks like a talent in midfield in his cameo 34+ minutes. We can forgive him for being one of about 5 CAFC players who couldn't block Savio AKA Savinho, the 85 million pound man.
  • So disappointed with the injuries, that's obvious for everyone. Tough to make judgements about the players but a couple of positives for me were Mwamba, who continues to show what taking your opportunities looks like, whilst Knibbs and Apter really look further away from being able to affect games the more we see them. Mesik looks good and McNamara is a great pickup.

Waaste of a day for everyone who bothers to go
I went and I didn't think it was a waste of time.
It was a day out at a new ground.
We were up against a club that has a multi-million pound squad and I wasn't expecting us win, so a defeat didn't come as a surprise.
I had a good time and a bit of a sing watching the mighty Addicks.
    What's not to like?

Massive own goal by Charlton. Season a lot flatter today, impetus and confidence ebbs away. The 6000 fans shown no respect.

    Better beat Preston.

I really enjoyed going to see an NFL game there. Maybe it’s better suited to that.

Made our own way to the stadium via Lizzy line and Liverpool st, met my spurs supporting other half after the game as she travelled from work to park at the Powerleague place in willoughby lane.
got in the car at 22:00, home in Bexley 23:15 via north circular, A13, Dartford bridge and a drop off in Greenhithe. Smooth return journey

Listen, I completely understand the decision, I know the league is more important, I know we probably would of lost with our first team out, I know the risk.

However, seeing that lineup walking into the ground, with 10 changes just killed the occasion. Maybe I was expecting a few changes, I wasn’t planning on watching Rob Apter.

Atmosphere after they scored just went, it was practically non existent second half. It was almost like well if the club ain’t bothering then neither should we.

    Just a real anti-climax of a night.

Anyway, not overly bothered and onto Preston

Agreed with every bit of this.

The away end definitely felt a little flatter than it should have in the build up to kick off. It was as if we’d basically thrown the game before the whistle had even blown.

Well done to the young lads out there who held on as long as they could.

And whilst the injuries are annoying - they could easily happen in a league game. A couple of changes here and there I can understand, but bloody hell I’ve seen us put out stronger sides in the Pizza Cup.

Tonight was meant to be a big occasion, with 6,000 away fans turning up to play one of the biggest clubs / stadium in world football in a very special opportunity. And that lineup showed that we treated it as if it was nothing more than an inconvenience.

The league is most important, but come on, the fans that went tonight have every right to feel a bit let down by those decisions. Does it always have to just be about league points? Supporting a club like ours should embrace the chance to have a glorious cup moment every now and then. At least give us half a chance when it comes around once in a blue moon.

Am I allowed to agree with this?

Its one of the main bug bears I have with Spurs, they haven't treated cuo games seriously for years as it always seemed more important to go for European qualification (if you excluded the last 2 seasons obviously!) so have got every sympathy.

Dont be too downbeat as I told every single one of you on the way home last night.

You lot sung your bollocks off first 35 mins, the first Valley Floyd Road was a bit special.  Reckon that was one of the loudest renditions we've heard in the stadium.

Hope you all got home on with the minimum of trouble.
Got back to Peckham at midnight,  Northumberland Park station was a nightmare to get into,
Yes, whoever suggested going to Northumberland Park needs throttling.

Hopefully that will be my last ever visit to WHL mk2. Journey there & back was thus -

    Bus to Grove Park
    Train to London Bridge
    Change for Cannon St
Tube from Cannon St to Liverpool St
    Liverpool St to WHL.

    Northumberland Park to Stratford
    Stratford to Lewisham (DLR)
    Bus from Lewisham home.

Included in that was what seemed like miles of endless walking between platforms/ train lines. 30 min queue just to get into NP station & upon entering there was then a mazy walk up a slope to get to a footbridge......followed by a walk down again onto the platform. Then another endless walk around Stratford station to get the DLR. Then a 20 min wait for the bus. Home at 00.35 - some 3 hrs after the game had ended.

And they want you to give up the car for public transport.

So is Nathan basically saying he will have to play weak teams in some of those matches as well ? Could he let us know which ones so we also don’t have to bother turning up for them

Not much point adding anything as it’s all been said but Tottenham (the area) does not deserve that stadium. The stadium deserves a better fan base, absolute silence for most of the game. I’d actually forgotten how much of a toilet Tottenham is, won’t be in a rush to return.

I live in North Kent and Tottenham makes Chatham look like Dubai
    That just reminded me.

Walking from WHL station to the ground there was a chap walking along Tottenham High Road asking if we wanted any charlie.

Your comment about the catering reminded me of something.......... I tried the food/drink which was OK/average........ ...... I went to the game in a car with Spurs fans, they told me that on average the food/drink/hospitality etc. takes in £10m on a match day....... so assuming our average crowd is 20k, that gives G&G a target of £3m+ per game....... not sure how close to that they are....?

It seemed even more run down than the last time I was there. Why would anybody think it’s a good idea to spend all that money building a stadium like that in that area ? Apart from the London Stadium which looks like everything is being done to not smarten it or the surrounding area up for the tenants, having a stadium like the one Spurs has built should be a catalyst for regeneration of the wider area. Clearly that doesn’t appear to have happened

Might lose on Saturday because players moral in their boots which keep slipping on grassy surfaces, and we are missing two subs.

Its a f*cking dump.  I hate everything about the area to be honest.  I never feel comfortable there, always feel like I need to look over my shoulder all the time.  When I picked my team when I was younger, I was drawn in by Hoddle & Waddle, not what the High Road looked like lol.  I still remember my first time walking up from Seven Sisters on my own when I was a teenager.  Christ alive.

Yeah not for me. The cryptocurrency adverts played at deafening volume on the big screens at half time lol.

Also saw a charlton fan tackled by five policemen and handcuffed for the apparent crime of having his ticket on his mate's phone instead of his own and then asking why he was being told to leave and come back in. Ridiculously heavy handed and the surrounding stewards all needlessly aggressive.

With the injuries he will have no choice but to on occasion put out weak teams, we do not have the budget to have a squad of quality down to the 25 th member, unlike Prem clubs.

I take it none of the Tottenham’s a sh*thole crew were walking through Abbey Wood late last night?

Our areas (Charlton, Woolwich etc) are hardly Mayfair
  • Slagging off the stadium aside, I don't really get people slagging off the area tbh (although maybe I'm biased as I walked there from my house lol). It's a working class multicultural area of London, quite similar to Charlton really. The people that got on my nerves weren't locals, it was the 'fans' in the expensive seats behind the Charlton section who spent the whole game filming on their phones...

Club can't win, play the first XI, Leaburn and Bell get crocked, we get spanked 4 nil anyway and you'll all be up in arms about it.
But then we lost Godden to a training ground injury. You can't wrap footballers up in cotton wool 24/7.

About managing risk though - training is a necessity, playing in the League Cup Second Round is not.

If we get relegated - even reaching the quarter finals would be of scant consolation to most fans.
In that case, we might as well tell the EFL that we don't want to take part.

What we did yesterday was a waste of everybody's time and money.

The Negatives are what nightmares are made of.

For want of a nail the shoe was lost, for want of a shoe the horse was lost...
    Goodbye horse !

Burke was the nail and when he cried off it triggered a series of events where Billy should've been on the bench or watching from the stands and suddenly we saw him pull up with a bad hamstring issue just as Sichenje yet another CAFC player made of glass went down for the final time after trying to play on.
Two serious injuries and the battle was lost before it had hardly began.

Nathan was going for the full 11 changes if Burke wasn't Mr Swarovski and all Charlton fans at the ground and those like me watching on TV say "can we keep the score below 5"
    The answer was No.

I thought the shadow squad all gave 100% against a Premier team but we were so outclassed, similar to our 1st team against Chelsea at the Valley when it was also 5-1.

I give you the footballer's stock retort "we move on" and we hope the whole bloody war isn't lost because of that loose nail.
