Not much point adding anything as it’s all been said but Tottenham (the area) does not deserve that stadium. The stadium deserves a better fan base, absolute silence for most of the game. I’d actually forgotten how much of a toilet Tottenham is, won’t be in a rush to return.

I live in North Kent and Tottenham makes Chatham look like Dubai
It seemed even more run down than the last time I was there. Why would anybody think it’s a good idea to spend all that money building a stadium like that in that area ? Apart from the London Stadium which looks like everything is being done to not smarten it or the surrounding area up for the tenants, having a stadium like the one Spurs has built should be a catalyst for regeneration of the wider area. Clearly that doesn’t appear to have happened
Its a f*cking dump.  I hate everything about the area to be honest.  I never feel comfortable there, always feel like I need to look over my shoulder all the time.  When I picked my team when I was younger, I was drawn in by Hoddle & Waddle, not what the High Road looked like lol.  I still remember my first time walking up from Seven Sisters on my own when I was a teenager.  Christ alive.
Surely it's time to listen to your heart and follow the addicts instead. Stop fighting what you know is true.

I appreciate that it’s annoying not seeing the best lineup if you had a ticket but Jones made 10 changes and the one change he didn’t make resulted in an injury to that player potentially so devastating we might not be able to sign JRS as a result. The margins are so fine at this level across so many departments

If you are going to make changes then change Chalobah, Bell and Billy as they are the 3 most injury prone.  I said it before the game.  Why change 10 and leave Billy in there.  Poor managerial decision for me.
Sounds like Billy was going to be left out, and then Burke got injured.
that was my thought.....christ Burke can injure himself basically breathing can't he!!!

I kind of expected exactly that lineup except with Burke in place of Koumetio. Naturally it means Koumetio is getting some kind of ludicrous injury tonight. I get it, we give minutes to players who need it like Ouma, Doc, Knibbs, Alli and Sichenje and shop window Asiimwe and Apter. I did wonder if Kanu would at least make the bench as I guessed Jones would want to test Mbick, but the fact he can’t even make this squad tells us that he’s very much in the sell pile. We have a big squad, we’re in very good form in the league and we have a ridiculous injury history. I get it
    Shit, maybe it's my fault

When we are home to Notts County in the 3rd round of the FA Cup, I doubt there will be much noise from our home end either.

Slagging off the stadium aside, I don't really get people slagging off the area tbh (although maybe I'm biased as I walked there from my house lol). It's a working class multicultural area of London, quite similar to Charlton really. The people that got on my nerves weren't locals, it was the 'fans' in the expensive seats behind the Charlton section who spent the whole game filming on their phones...
Agreed. Much better than the bland out of town stadiums surrounded by retail parks with 2000 parking spaces.

I went with my mate who has season tickets at Spurs. I was sat near the Charlton fans, and it was way more painful an experience than I expected. Not because of the result, that was mostly expected. It was the fans (and I realise JohnBoy, that you are far more realistic than this lot).

While they dominated the ball and any objective viewer would have seen what was coming, the bitching and moaning was relentless. The people around me sounded like self-entitled, spoilt brats. Yet once it was 3-0, they seemed to think they were the best team in England. Having been outsang by our lot for most of the game, they found their voices at last and gave us loads of shit. It was an embarrassing performance from the fans.

One particularly insufferable man child behind me was so excited as the fourth and fifth went in that it sounded like they were smashing Real Madrid in a CL final. It was excruciating not being able to call them out on it.

As an aside, the style of football at the top end of the pyramid is boring as fuck to watch now.

It’s weird really, I found myself very philosophical after the game last night about the game, we effectively threw the game before it even started which made the result even more inevitable, we learned a few things about our players but probably not enough that changes our opinion based on championship suitability, obviously the big story is the injuries, I feel like NJ has put himself under a bit of pressure for Saturday as the week would be a bit of a downer if we don’t perform, I think we will by the way. Think we all need to chill our beans a bit including NJ and hope there are some sensible discussions going on right now at the club.

Got back to Peckham at midnight,  Northumberland Park station was a nightmare to get into,
Yes, whoever suggested going to Northumberland Park needs throttling.

Hopefully that will be my last ever visit to WHL mk2. Journey there & back was thus -

    Bus to Grove Park
    Train to London Bridge
    Change for Cannon St
Tube from Cannon St to Liverpool St
    Liverpool St to WHL.

    Northumberland Park to Stratford
    Stratford to Lewisham (DLR)
    Bus from Lewisham home.

Included in that was what seemed like miles of endless walking between platforms/ train lines. 30 min queue just to get into NP station & upon entering there was then a mazy walk up a slope to get to a footbridge......followed by a walk down again onto the platform. Then another endless walk around Stratford station to get the DLR. Then a 20 min wait for the bus. Home at 00.35 - some 3 hrs after the game had ended.

And they want you to give up the car for public transport.

You should have gone Tottenham Hale.  I haven't used WHL or NP to get home in years.  Far far too many people and queues.

My daughters Charlton supporting boyfriend came with me last night.  He left on 78 minutes as he's got a really dodgy knee at the moment which needs an op and he was worried about having to walk/stand on it in the crowds.  He went to NP to get back to Liverpool St.

I left on 91 mins, and was walking down the steps to Park Lane as the final whistle went.  I done the walk back to Tottenham Hale in 23 mins.  Was planning on going Viccy Line back to Victoria but wife messaged to tell me to meet her in Canary Wharf and she'd drive home so jumped on the first train to Liverpool St for the Viccy Line.  Only had to wait 2 mins for the first train to come in and it was empty.  Back to Liverpool St in 15 mins and I bumped into the daughters boyfriend talking to my daughter on the Viccy Line platform, despite him leaving early and taking the shorter walk to NP.

Game finished around 9:35 didn't it?  I met my Mrs in CW at 10:25.  I thought that was bloody good tbh.  Had I gone back to Victoria, I would have made the early fast train back to Bromley South.

Listen, I completely understand the decision, I know the league is more important, I know we probably would of lost with our first team out, I know the risk.

However, seeing that lineup walking into the ground, with 10 changes just killed the occasion. Maybe I was expecting a few changes, I wasn’t planning on watching Rob Apter.

Atmosphere after they scored just went, it was practically non existent second half. It was almost like well if the club ain’t bothering then neither should we.

    Just a real anti-climax of a night.

Anyway, not overly bothered and onto Preston

Agreed with every bit of this.

The away end definitely felt a little flatter than it should have in the build up to kick off. It was as if we’d basically thrown the game before the whistle had even blown.

Well done to the young lads out there who held on as long as they could.

And whilst the injuries are annoying - they could easily happen in a league game. A couple of changes here and there I can understand, but bloody hell I’ve seen us put out stronger sides in the Pizza Cup.

Tonight was meant to be a big occasion, with 6,000 away fans turning up to play one of the biggest clubs / stadium in world football in a very special opportunity. And that lineup showed that we treated it as if it was nothing more than an inconvenience.

The league is most important, but come on, the fans that went tonight have every right to feel a bit let down by those decisions. Does it always have to just be about league points? Supporting a club like ours should embrace the chance to have a glorious cup moment every now and then. At least give us half a chance when it comes around once in a blue moon.
I felt let down even though I understand why he did it But how often do the supporters get a big occasion like this.If I had known that team in advance I wouldn’t have gone

I find this view interesting. I support Charlton, not Charlton’s first 11. Now I appreciate I’ve never turned up to a game and had that lineup sprung on me but I did have Allan Campbell played as an attacking midfielder out the blue once. It wouldn’t make me regret going, I’d be interested to see how some new faces did and support them.

Very dissapointing line up. I understand a couple of changes, but it was a bit of a piss take. No excuse starting someone like Brooks. These games don't come around often, might as well give it a bit of a go - injuries can happen anytime including training.

Not quite sure where to start. Though maybe 5.45am alarm this morning is worth mentioning - a long day of travelling down from Scotland for that.

When I saw the line up I was shocked. To me that is disrespectful to fans, the competition and the opposition. I hoped against hope I’d have to eat my words but the outcome, with the injuries and heavy defeat, is even worse than I feared. Fans I know from 17 year olds to 70 year olds are pissed off.

NJ is his own man but we are meant to be a professional football club / team and across the season we compete in three competitions- the league, the EFL cup and the FA Cup. The latter two offer fans the opportunity for big days out and are part and parcel of the season. We’ve had shite cup draws over many years and I can forgive playing second strings v non league and lower league sides. But tonight wasn’t / shouldn’t have been that. Compare and contrast with the wonderful night we had at Old Trafford not so long ago - thank you Dean Holden.

NJ will have to cope now with the consequences of lack of centre halves and a shuddering halt to the strong momentum we’d been building. So we now don’t complete JRS signing because of this?!

To play young and new players (Mesik, Ouma, Collins, Alli, MBick) who we are looking to integrate into the first team squad alongside those he has made it obvious are on their way out (Apter, Knibbs, Asiimwe, Doc) makes no sense whatsoever to me. And as for throwing Brooks in at the deep end when we have a new keeper champing at the bit to play?

Good (no not really) night from me.
Excellent post, I'm sorry you travelled all that way for that, its a huge credit to you as a supporter and a shame the club didn't fulfill their side of things, it was appalling the team didn't come over at the end.
Huge respect to you for your effort and commitment.
Yeah,  what was that with the team.at the end  ?  NJ came over, and so did Lloyd Jones plus 2 or 3 others. But most seem to want to chat to the Spurs players in the centre circle then went off down the tunnel.

Perhaps they thought if the club didnt want to treat it seriously then why should they. Or they were too busy swapping shirts.

Very let down by everyone tonight. Only player that came out with any credit was Asimwee.

Were the 2 0r 3 others regular starters? the rest too start struck by the famous Spurs players?
The players that actually came over and clapped the fans were Jones, Apter, Docherty, Mcnamara and Knibbs, and a couple of subs. Most of the other lads clapped the fans from further away then left.

Seeing as 2/3s of the fans had left by then, and we just got tonked 5-1, it's no surprise they didn't come further over tbh.

Also a trip to Spurs for 6k of isn't quite the same as going on a Wednesday night up to Newcastle or Manchester or somewhere is it?

Based on living in Philip Lane Tottenham for four years I can confirm that the area is very unpleasant.
Woolwich, Abbey Wood and anywhere else in South East London is paradise by comparison.
The existence of that stadium in Tottenham is like finding a lost 9carat ring in a sewer.

I may not be the biggest fan of teams that are not CAFC,  but I am very proud adopted Londoner and I love all of this city, the ugly bits and the beautiful bits. Some of the most honest, decent, people I have ever met live in parts of London that people describe as dumps, and that has affected my view of these sorts of places profoundly.

I know exactly what you mean and agree with you.

I was in our usual seats last night but only 2 or 3 of the regular ST holders were sitting around us.  They'd all put their seats on the resale and were snapped up by members.  If you apply that part of our block to the rest of the blocks, there was an awful lot of people there last night who don't regularly attend.

The atmosphere (from us) was dead.  Early round cup games tend to be, no matter the level of opposition, same as Europa League games.  PL games are totally difrerent.

Totally agree with the style of football.  Sideways and backwards.  Must keep possession.  Frightened of giving the ball away but then do exactly that.  No room for mavericks, which like Hoddle, Gazza, Ginola I fell in love with.  I just hope Savio/Savinho (why the name change FFS?) and Marmoush change the direction and take us to a new level.

Honestly, I thought we were dire last night.  The 2 goals at HT flattered us.  Yes, we had plenty of possession but we was going absolutely nowhere until Moore scored.

Can take a few positives - Fernandes looks like he'll never give the ball away cheaply, Moore's confidence taking opponents on is growing and Savio looked bright in his little cameo but the rest were pretty bang average and thats not really ideal.  Good that VdV and Porro got some minutes.

On the way home, one of my mates messaged to say Ben Davies played well.  Did he?  Other than passing it 5 yards to either Van Hecke or Van Der Ven and denying Savio a second, WTF did he actually do?

I think to judge last night's players to badly is wrong. All they could honestly do was to work hard and defend. I was surprised how some that were called lazy actually worked hard. Mbick won some headers and chased hard but because he did not beat million pound defenders and score he gets marked low
Realistically how would our first choice players would have had more success
Disappointed on injuries but hopefully our rested players will do it for us Saturday and further in the league

Am I allowed to agree with this?

Its one of the main bug bears I have with Spurs, they haven't treated cuo games seriously for years as it always seemed more important to go for European qualification (if you excluded the last 2 seasons obviously!) so have got every sympathy.

Dont be too downbeat as I told every single one of you on the way home last night.

You lot sung your bollocks off first 35 mins, the first Valley Floyd Road was a bit special.  Reckon that was one of the loudest renditions we've heard in the stadium.

Hope you all got home on with the minimum of trouble.
Got back to Peckham at midnight,  Northumberland Park station was a nightmare to get into,

    Probably me.

I have been using NP for probably 20 years with crowds of 62k for nearly 10 of them. In my experience I have usually been on the platform within 10 minutes of getting there. I didnt go last night so couldn't say what the issues were. I am usually back at London Bridge or Victoria around an hour after leaving the stadium after night games.

Different crowd for us at these early round cup games, lots of tourists and day trippers. I dont like them and rarely attend. Half and half scarves, popcorn and mobile phones. Horrendous.

Agree about the steps in the ground though. When you are in row 70 of the South Stand it is a nightmare.

I lived in South East London for 6 years so the criticism of N17 is a bit rich but each to their own.

We’ve played a total of 2 league games. We’ve got 3 weeks of football and then most of them get 3 weeks off to recuperate. We make 5 subs every game so a fair chunk are having their mins managed anyway.

I’m not saying play your best team for 90, but we could have rested a couple (like Bell) and played the others for 55 / 35 split and still given some game time to the likes of Ouma, Knibbs etc. but they’d have benefited from getting their time in a more integrated team, not an 11 that had never played before.

Box to box midfielders like Declan Rice just did a 69 game season at the highest level. Frank Lampard once did a 72 game season. They shouldn’t need such full minutes protection at this stage of the season imo

If anyone listened to Rodwell on talksport, then you’d know this was the plan, he mentioned there would be some debutants, and was essentially a free hit. There are KPI’s at the club, which is to not lose against lower league opposition, hence a stronger team against Cheltenham.

Should we have played a better team? Yes, but the league is more important. We got 2 injuries, to first team players. We’ve already got a small squad, and losing key players will affect us hugely.

Ultimately, we were never going to win, and it was in London. I wish we put up more of a fight, but realistically, what were people expecting?
