Summer Window 2026 - Rumours and Discussion (DEADLINE DAY from Page 814)

I think it’s unlikely we spend it. Anyone we sign now is not going to be our first choice option and the CB signing wouldn’t have been planned at all. Expect 2 loans to finish which is absolutely fine, we don’t need to spend the money. Rather use it in January or next summer for a first choice targetCharltonManor1966 said:Well we've got about £5 mill burning a hole in our pockets and other teams know it. I just hope we spend wisely and well. No crocks and no L1 hopefuls......12 -

Would say Rodwell and Jones are pissed of with JRS and his agent given the time that goes into a transfer and targets we most likey missed out on while putting everything into the deal .. that’s most likey a reason they won’t go back think once you upset Jones that’s it ..1

Agree. How distracting it is that have a match that night too? Think NJ might bite his nails down to the quick.Rossman92 said:I genuinely wish it was about to be boring, but I think we are in for the most bonkers deadline day in god knows how long
There's 8 Championship games, 7 L1 games and a full L2 programme being played on Tuesday, I'm expecting there to be a lot of grumpy managers that evening, moaning that they're playing at the same time that crucial transfer deals are being sorted. Indeed one or two might be absent completely.1 -
So, having had a couple of days to think about it, I'm not as upset about missing JRS as I thought I'd be.
A lot of it was looking back at his time with us in league one and how well he did there, but truthfully he's never kicked on from there. A series of underwhelming loans and now palace are looking to shift him for whatever they can get.
4m is pocket change to them, but would be a massive outlay for us, and it feels like it would be a big gamble in all honesty. If all the agent stuff is true, and we have no reason to doubt it, that doesn't sound like the sort of attitude NJ and co usually want to add to the team. Add on to that the underwhelming performances and a big price tag and the balance of R:R seems to be heavily weighed to the downside. The player we saw at Stoke last year isn't replacing TC or Grant on current form so would he kick off about playing second fiddle?
In terms of plan B, unless it's a squad player that can't make a 25, I can't really see a loan. Any prem team will want their player starting and do we really want to disrupt something that is working. As unexciting as it is a short term deal (to Jan) for someone like Redmond could make sense if they're fit.
More time to scout for a new plan A, or JRS and his team end up humbled and we revisit it. Obviously if there's someone we see as a can't miss prospect in the next week we go for it, but I wouldn't want to rush through something for someone lacklustre.
Would be good to know how serious Billy's injury is, as if it's only 6 weeks then that takes us to the end of the next international break, and doesn't require a longer term solution, or a prem kid who they want starting every game.3 -
I'd take Conor Coady back im sure his wages are more than negotiable at his age.7
-
Palace dont want to lose him for nothing and JRS wants game time, this reminds me very much of how the Knibbs deal went down. Maybe he'll go elsewhere, but if it is about agent cash, a lot can happen between now and Tuesday3

Two league games into the season and we have numerous players out injured. Is it just bad luck or poor scouting?

All the injuries came in a game against a prem side on their pitch pretty much.hoof_it_up_to_benty said:Two league games into the season and we have numerous players out injured. Is it just bad luck or poor scouting? No scouring report is going to be able to predict that8 -

Let’s not rewrite history and pretend we are better off without JRS - Nathan desperately wanted him and so did we!24

No but we're not actually any worse off either. Before this, we didn't have JRS. After this, we still don't have JRS. We haven't gone backwards (in that sense), just stood still.Danny Addick said:Let’s not rewrite history and pretend we are better off without JRS - Nathan desperately wanted him and so did we!
We needed a RW, now we still need a RW, plus a CB, but we have time to address it.

Bertrand Traoré is still a free agent1

Personally thought we were overpaying for JRS but there is no doubt he would be far better than what we had in the natural RW department really not liking the look of Apter or Alli and would have significantly improved us.thenewbie said:

The JRS transfer was a lie spun by his agent - show us the proof he was at Sparrows Lane ?
Realistically we have no more budget for players until we sell as our budget must have gone on players wages (from our frees and contract renewals - not a bad thing and also 2nd year payments on last years signings)
I’m not concerned - remember deadline day signing last year ! BREE and that worked out very well

List of players injured or not able to play ie off.
Mannion, Kaminski, Collins, Edwards, Koumetio, Burke, Fullah, Godden, Kelman, Kanu, Ramsay,
That is 11 players the whole of the back four. Plus we have two players who can play central defence out on loan. That would affect any club.4 -
Agree was not excited by JRS coming back it could have been a great bit of business and he may well have found his feet back at the valley .. but i do think fans went over the top about him .. when he first joined us he done very little in the first few months in fact i think there was talk of him going back to Palace but then suddenly after Xmas he started to play and wow we had a player in our hands .. but since then his career and performances have gone backwards .. it was gamble for us to spend 5 mill plus on JRS … will we ever know the outcome of this one not sure it’s 100% dead might not happen this window but would not surprise me if in the next 12 months he ends up with us ???Jdredsox said:So, having had a couple of days to think about it, I'm not as upset about missing JRS as I thought I'd be.

As long as we get past Preston Okay with McNamara Jones Bell and Mesik we should be fine gives us a few days to sort out the CB issue.DennisBooth said:List of players injured or not able to play ie off.

I don’t believe we have £5m burning a hole. We were prepared to spend that money on a 23yr old highly talented player because we could see us selling him for £10m+ in a couple of years. It would’ve been classed as an investment. We are not going to spend £5m on a 28yr old. It didn’t work out and kind of explains why Palace have always struggled to shift him, there’s obviously an issue with JRS that we shouldn’t, out of respect, speculate on too much. Unless it’s another investment signing I think we won’t spend that much on a player this summer.CharltonManor1966 said:Well we've got about £5 mill burning a hole in our pockets and other teams know it. I can see us bringing in a loan winger & loan centre half just to bridge the gap until January where we can look at what's required based on league position/injuries at that point and progress from there4
