Bench shows how many injured players we have and when you do it makes things incredibly difficult. Also shows we really need that right winger as Apter has shown nothing, he’s also so weak.
Was debating whether it would be Docherty or Ouma on the bench but with everything that’s happened this week, I think Docherty being in the squad helps keep everyone calmer. Likely to be the last time he’s included in the squad before he moves on.

It feels like a big game, this. Preston started with two defeats and like us lost by four goals in the cup in midweek. We've started well obviously. But with all the injuries and the back and forth on transfer dealings during the week, plus the big loss to Spurs, it feels like this game takes on an added significance.
Someone mentioned JRC starting, which I could see. His vision is excellent. And he can run with the ball, which is part of what Carey is in there to do. Carey is a pressing monster, but tomorrow I'd expect we'll have more of the ball (or at least more than against West Ham) and JRC's cleverness of movement and ability to pick a pass could help to unlock the Preston defense. Or maybe that's a reason to go with Carey's shoot on sight mentality. I'd probably pick Carey and bring JRC on, but I suspect NJ might go other way round.
How we line up at the back will be crucial. NJ said Billy was "just a precaution," but I don't know if that's a two day precaution, or a two week precaution. He's obviously not always the most straightforward about injuries. So I'm expecting Bell and Mesik, with Mesik at CB and Bell at LB, but again, we'll see.
I'd really like to win this and go three from three. It just feels like it would be a massive lift after the rubbish week we've had. And I say that as one who wasn't as excited for JRS as some on here (I wanted him back, don't get me wrong, but I'm very much on the WIOTOS camp).0 -
I really don’t get this Carey thing. He’s not a worry, the way we are playing this season we need 3 runners behind the striker, if Carey is one thing it’s a willing runner. He’s been fine this season and it’s a complete non-issue. He will be starting as usual, like he will for most of the season and I’m sure he will do what he always does and put a big shift inBigDiddy said:Carey is a worry this season - will be interesting to see how he plays tomorrows, assuming he is selected

How high the bar is doesn’t matter. Yes neither were great but Apter did more to justify his place on the bench as an option than Ali didBriston_Addick said:
That's a low bar.AberystwythAddick said:I wouldn’t be overly suprised to see apter play at some point.
i thought he put on a better performance than Ali on Wednesday. Ease him back into playing and who knows the confidence might return.Hes out only natural right winger
Apter was lightweight and totally ineffective, but he tried.
in my view, none are good enough, but Apter deserves another shot.
I personally think he will be much more effective given a modicum of time.
I think you are judging him far too early.11 -

Since beating PNE to win promotion in May 1975, Charlton only won 2 of 16 games home and away against them (1 home, 1 away).
We have a worse record against Preston than Millwall over the last 16 matches.
Preston are looking for their 7th straight win against CAFC yet some fans think they are there for the taking🤦🏻♂️
They are our nemesis just like we are West Ham's nemesis.
Scoreline 🤔
CAFC 3 Preston 1
Grant 1 Carey 1 Campbell 1
Let's get this monkey 🐒 off our back 💪🏻2 -
The weather is looking pretty biblical tomorrow, hopefully its not like it was yesterday as it could end up being called off.0

I don’t think chasing the money and going to Preston was the right move for him. I know they’re a stable championship club but in hindsight it’s not a huge step up compared to us. He’s still very young though with a lot of talent you don’t get called up to England u21 for no reason so I think he’ll come good.MuttleyCAFC said:Small hasn't really pushed on like I thought he would. Maybe he went to the wrong club.1 -
Of the three early season pace setters, we are the only one at home this weekend while Albion and the Spanners both have tough away games at Boro and Southampton, respectively. With a winnable looking fixture for us, there's a decent chance we could be clear top by 5 o'clock, albeit after only 3 games.
Which, of course means, we're going to lose 3-0 and at least two of TC, Chalobah, or Leaburn will leave the pitch injured. It's just the way we do things around here.

Haven’t heard NJ’s presser yet but I’m wondering if he’s overplaying the possible inclusion of Koumetio or Burke to keep Preston guessing. I also think for the same reason that Tyler Bindon signed today and will play and we just want Preston to find out as late as possible. I’m probably overthinking it but ……2

3 - 1 home win.

Autocorrect from n to b, but otherwise no. Maybe a newborn at home means I’m not 100% with it at the moment but there we go 🤷🏻♂️wolfgang said:

Have we lost momentum though, it was a totally different team including players unlikely to be with us from Tuesday?, surely we currently have momentum in the league?2121 said:1-1 or 2-1.
obviously lost the momentum and our centre half, so can see this being a draw, but hopefully we nick it at the end
look at uptheaddixks post for example. Feels we have been relegated0 -

Congratulations! A new-born is turning my life upside down at present, and he is only my ex-wife's living in the next street. I wish you much joy and patience. What are you calling him? "Killer"?Sage said:

● Charlton Athletic have lost five of their last seven home league games against Preston North End (W1 D1), failing to score in four of those matches.
● Preston North End have won each of their last six league games against Charlton Athletic, their longest ongoing winning run against any current Championship side.
● After beating Derby County and West Ham so far this season, Charlton will be looking to win their opening three matches of a second-tier campaign for just the second time in club history after 1992-93.
● Preston won their last away league game in London 2-1 against Charlton in April and will be looking to win consecutive such matches for the first time since October 2020.
● Preston’s Paul Heckingbottom is unbeaten in four previous league meetings with Charlton manager Nathan Jones (W3 D1), only facing Nigel Pearson and Dean Smith (5 each) more times without losing in England’s top four tiers.

Preston have scored 3 goals in their 4 league and cup matches so far. Charlton have scored 8
Campbell and Lloyd Jones have both scored in each of their last three consecutive games.1 -
They were the 5-2 win in the 11/12 title season and the away win was when we first came down from the Prem (I think). 2-0 and Zheng Zhi and Varney (maybe)kentred2 said:Since beating PNE to win promotion in May 1975, Charlton only won 2 of 16 games home and away against them (1 home, 1 away).
terrible record against them. Be great to put that right today and get 9 points. My goal is still 55pts. To get to 9 so early on could be invaluable1 -
Whilst I don't think Big Billy will start, he may sneak on the bench!
Very much a game there to be won. Forget the spurs result, we can show we can grab decent results against good teams.
Preston have started badly and a couple of signings won't change that instantly, need to be ruthless and take advantage.
Charlton 3 - Preston 1 ( Leaburn, TC, Carey )
NJ moaning about not keeping a clean sheet at the end, despite having no defenders!1 -
No centre backs on the bench. Would Bell switch accross if one had to come off?1

You know this has got Preston W written all over it now after the positive start to the week and then Wednesday onwards.0

Charlton 2-1 Preston …. 3 out of 3 with a very tough game on Tuesday ….Next few fixtures
Preston win
WBA lose
Stoke draw
Pompey win
Take that after 6 games
talking out your arse Ronnie4 -
Can’t see anything but a 2-1 home win. Jones and TC on the scoresheet as we continue our march to 138 points with both scoring 46 goals each this season3
-
This is exactly the type of game that we traditionally lose !! But I think we are starting to see our new Charlton. NJ won’t let this opportunity slip by. 3 points and the feel good factor is back for 24 hours until some other shite happens COYRS1
