A classic case of a victim mindset in the case of Lyle. It would have been nice if he'd honoured the contract he signed...ElfsborgAddick said:The Prince-e-Paul said:Interesting podcast with Lyle

A classic case of why shouldn't a player look after themselves when a club can quite easily f*** their career earnings up.He's not the first and will not be the last player to refuse to play for a club.Granted that it does not make it right, but given the circumstances and all that.......................at least he is honest about it.3 -

Completely different scenario and you know itsoapboxsam said:Lyle Taylor was a hero to Zero:
Compare Taylor to the actions of Semenyo when he played for Bournemouth despite his transfer to Man City being agreed and it was just the minutiae of the deal to be finished.
Any bad injury for Semenyo could've stopped the transfer as football is a ruthless business.
As it was he scored for the cherries and gave 100% as he always does in his last match and he is remembered fondly by the Bournemouth fans.
It was unusual times but where Taylor could've been remembered as one of the best value signings for CAFC, instead he is just known as a snake.
Definitely not, I can confirm Taylor uses a Wetherspoons when he is thirsty.

Wasn't the Solly side of this cleared up recently?3

Nope its never been cleared up.Chunes said:Wasn't the Solly side of this cleared up recently?
Solly has on several occassions said he will tell his side of the story one day but never has.
A poster on here who was employed by the club in a non-football capacity but of course would have had access to players says Solly didnt refuse to play.
Bowyer specifically says Solly refused to play (personally as Solly wasnt even playing much for us I see no reason Bowyer would lie about this).
Just some wishful thinking on behalf of our fans who are happy to apply different standards because one is "one of our own" and the other isnt.5 -

He's honest about being a twat but expects sympathy and understanding. Zero respect for him.ElfsborgAddick said:hoof_it_up_to_benty said:

The vast majority of players just get on with it.

I have no clue what happened by the way. I just find it interesting that you say bowyer had no reason to lie. Does that mean you are accusing solly of being a liarRadostanradical said:

Nope as he has never said "I didnt refuse to play" he has said there is more to the story and one day he will talk about however he hasnt. Not everything in life is binary. I susprct he probably said he would if needed but would rather not and LB saw that as not wanting to play. That is just my opinion.Todds_right_hook said:

Clubs offloading players is not the same at all. The player has a contract and can refuse to move on. The club is bound by the contract in the same way the player is. When he was injured playing for Montserrat, the club didn’t refuse to pay him, they honoured his contract.I will never understand any fan defending that 🐍. He was contracted to the club, we had games to play when he was contracted to play for us and he refused to play for us. There are no ifs or buts about it. He signed a contract to play for us and refused to when the club, his teammates, the fans, the other employees at the club literally most needed him to do his job. He is a selfish 🐀.The fact he still spends so much time whining on podcasts etc about it years later is because he knows he was wrong but his ego refuses to admit it, so he’s still making excuses and praying we forgive him so he can sleep easier. Will never happen, he made his choice, he screwed an entire club over out of selfishness. He should shut up and live with it. Can’t have it both ways.8

Players have to agree though, they simply insist a club honours the contract, it’s exactly the sameElfsborgAddick said:Stu_of_Kunming said:Then you have the other side that clubs give contracts to players then want to offload them when they can make money out of them.Clubs can then disrupt the family life of a player, their childrens education in moving etc. To me it is a two way thing.0 -

No values, no class.I would agree with this to a point, but for him he got his life changing contract, he does not have to work again.Rightly or wrongly, as long as he is not telling whoppers the club treated him badly so he took his view as the life changing move was given to him again. Why should a footballer care about a club, it's only a job for them.

If you played professional football Elf, would it just be a job?ElfsborgAddick said:mascot88 said:ElfsborgAddick said:

I conceded defeat on an illustrious career when I got lobbed playing 5-a-side :'(If I was in his position and was a journeyman footballer I think I would have done the same as Taylor, of that I am sure.Back in the real world, I have always served the required notice when leaving a job.2 -

If playing football is just a job, then football clubs are just businesses, and we're just customers. I can't buy into that.ElfsborgAddick said:Chunes said:

The second the game turnt professional, everything you said became the truth.
Players are just employees hired by a club (business), why would someone move to a completely different country to play for a team, its not purely love of the game. Also ultimately we are just customers hence why attendance fluctuates when the club isnt doing well.1 -
If he wants to look at it that coldly and from a disconnected view, ignoring the opportunity that Charlton gave him by allowing him to be visible enough to secure that opportunity in the first place - then good for him - his soul is rotten, his heart a black void full of the empty pain an unheard scream in the darkest waters.ElfsborgAddick said:mascot88 said:ElfsborgAddick said:

It's a give and take between club and player - between employer and employee.
For him to down tools was a disgrace and for him to not even own it means I have zero respect for him, his family and his heritage - he has a life not worthy of inspection.
Like I said a huge loser in my book - an irrelevancy that made him a footnote in our past.
He is as irrelevant to me and Charlton is to him.
