'Nice to have' doesn't work too much worth the squad limits.se9addick said:I’d see Dobson as a “nice to have” and would try to sign him provided the money required (fees + wages) wasn’t exorbitant. If Leicester are offering him a big contract I wouldn’t get into a bidding war.
I'd have taken Dobson a month ago but Chalobah/Ouma are in those squad spots now and we need the spaces for CB and maybe RW.1 -
Really? I think squads have lots of “nice to haves”.North Lower Neil said:

For those closer to the detail, what chance is there of JRS still joining but on revised terms in light of the information/issues that arose when he was about to sign? Or is it completely off?5

From what Rich said on his podcast last night it's completely dead no chance.ns9 said:For those closer to the detail, what chance is there of JRS still joining but on revised terms in light of the information/issues that arose when he was about to sign? Or is it completely off?0 -
From what I heard Palace had offered conditional terms that favoured us but we still didn't think it was worth the risk.ns9 said:For those closer to the detail, what chance is there of JRS still joining but on revised terms in light of the information/issues that arose when he was about to sign? But who knows? WIOTOS15 -
Christ, I thought we were past being linked with Ricky Jade-Jones5

Would be disappointed to see Dobson even linked with coming back. Would be hoping for better, would feel like a backwards step for me.18

Just so I know,,,is the JRS deal really off...😉7

Just trying to work out NJs thinking when it comes to the midfield. I’ve no opinion on this just trying to make sense of the squad make up and who can play where if needed. This is based on Doc leaving and if I’ve missed anything please contribute. I’ve not included Fullah, but perhaps I should.
No.10 Carey - Grant - Mwamba - Chalobah - Knibbs - JRC
Box to box - Chalobah - Carey - Mwamba - Knibbs - JRC - Ouma
DM - Coventry - Ouma - Collins (long-term injured)
If anything the DM slot is looking the weakest. Could we see a Coady type player come in as back up?

I almost feel remorseful, seeing everyone queue up to naysay Dobson after three ConCov masterclasses. My feeling on the matter is that Dobson would improve our squad - of course he would - but he wouldn't necessarily be a first-team pick. We'd have 5 good options (presuming Ouma turns out to be a good option) for CM and that's quite a lot, especially as JRC or Knibbs at a push could play there too. I don't see it as a priority at all - it'd take a serious injury to one of Coventry, Mwamba or Ouma to make it one6
-
Such a shame that fell through for whatever reason. Think a front four of Leaburn, Campbell, Grant and JRS would have been SO exciting.17
-
It's a double pivot. Coventry wasn't exactly sitting in the centre circle all game. Sometimes Chalobah was the one dropping to get it off the defence. All four of our CMs can play either pivot roleSouthLincsAddick said:Just trying to work out NJs thinking when it comes to the midfield. Feels like we have a top manager who gets the best out of players and is organised. We all get the feeling that if you sprinkle a few top players on what we have already, with our manager, we have a serious chance.TellyTubby said:
What would you expect from a Spanner?PragueAddick said:
100% (as they say, ad nauseam😉)Elthamaddick said:
Certainly wouldn’t swap him for Danny MacDanny Addick said:Have to say, with Clarke at £2.5m or whatever it is - I really didn’t miss him playing for us when I saw him atoday. Works hard and has grit but not much else.
I really like Danny Mac's combination of the shithousery with good care of the ball and a quietly efficient use of it. He's better than Clarke on those parameters. Clarke gets into more dangerous attacking positions, but as we know, he wastes a lot of them. Danny Mac has only done that once I think, but it was that really vicious half-volley in the 1st half against Derby, excellent technique and on target. I love him already. All that said, Harry Clarke did well for us last season, I was glad we got him in then.
Tbf, he has been very impressive, no idea why they didn't want him.1 -
Nice to have suggests to me a 'we don't need him, it's a cherry on top'.se9addick said:

We need to use the squad places for the players we need, rather than the cherry on top type.0 -
Also, Mesik is a very attacking left back. In the first half he was bombing forward, so we need the solidity on the other side.Redrobo said:
For me the change in formation requires full backs to be very good backs 1st and foremost so wingers can do their thing. Danny is a better full back.PragueAddick said:

I really don't like the new 25 man squad rules as they are written, as it's ridiculous that academy players like Kanu and Asiimwe count the same as a multi million pound overseas signings, because they are months (days in case of Asiimwe) over the age limit.
Having a 25 man limit AND transfer windows across the EFL is massively restrictive. For all the talk of new signings, we have an awful lot of players to shift by Tuesday, and I imagine many other clubs are in the same situation. It's turning transfer window deadline day into one of those The Apprentice selling tasks, where with 30 minutes to go they sell their products at ridiculously low prices just to get rid of the left over stock...6 -
Though with our budget and the quality of our academy compared to other clubs the limit is probably a good thing. Even without it, I doubt players like Kanu want to be kept around as back up until they’re 23/24/25.killerandflash said:

So is Assimwe counted as a squad member or an under aged?, if under probably not so important to try and offload if people feel he is improving. Then maybe just another loan.0

He’s over by a few days, so it makes sense for him to get regular game time out on loan. He’s too good for the u21s.Sword65pf said:So is Assimwe counted as a squad member or an under aged?, if under probably not so important to try and offload if people feel he is improving.
