  • 3 year deal as well isn’t overly confident. But people really throwing toys out of the pram here. It’s still a v good window

£100k instead of £5m for JRS.

Sounds like Nathan Jones expects Nkeng to be around the first team straight away.

Young POTY for AFC Wimbledon last season, then signs for a Championship side.

Very similar to if a club like Sunderland or Brentford came in for Fullah and signed him on a permanent deal this summer from us

Hope he hits the ground running but not too much pressure is added to his young shoulders at first!

One week plays a blinder in front of 60,000 fans and is thanked by being sent out on loan to League Two Salford.

"Plays a blinder" is a bit of an exaggeration. He was one of the best of a poor side. He did some good things and one or two bad things,. Salford could be the making of him.

Might be the other way around and the player is very confident and doesn’t want to tie himself here on a longer deal than necessary. Would imagine we’d have liked to offer him longer

Surely thats not it for the day..... feels like its a VERY cheap alternative wages wise to JRS. Must be another more expensive one lined up.

Not sure about that, bet we wish Gassan et al were only three year deals.

Really surprised we havnt signed the lad from Finland considering Cawley mentioned it the other day.

Why? Maybe there's no one else we want who we can reasonably afford and think is good value at this point of the window

Don’t know what to say about this one, good luck and welcome I suppose. Powder is still dry🤷🏻‍♂️ wonder how far down the list this one was?

If it’s an academy loan I’m not sure it needs to be done today. He won’t be registered to play for us

If we couldn't get Rak-Sakyi, I'd hope that we dont just spunk £4-5m at someone simply because we've got that sort of money to splash out.
Feels like this is the potential alternative to Jes, and we'll hold back the money for another day.
Keep our powder dry you mean?😜, does the powder have a use by date?

Hope the club have got a friendly arranged with Salford as part of the Asiimwe loan deal. Expect it would be a new ground for the vast majority of us!

The only other one lined up is Skipp. Touch and go whether that will happen.

Can see it being Skipp and that being it unfortunately. All in all it’s been a good window in fairness, just very disappointing as I thought we’d be surprised with JRS today. Nkeng looks mustard, but do worry it’s a lot of pressure to immediately put onto a 19 year old’s shoulders when our main target was a £5m natural left footed right winger.

I hope the club can surprise us by the end of the night with something but I just can’t see it. Our deadline days always have been a bit of an anti climax, just hoped this one would be different under this ownership!

I would like to know how far down the list we were when we signed this guy. Hopefully it turns out well but for what is in essence a punt on an unproven youngster it’s a big risk

The Finnish journo did say he wasn't due to have his medical until today.

I don’t think we would’ve signed Nkeng unless we thought he could make an impact in some way this season.  The whole JRS situation probably changed our plans quite a bit.  We unlikely had anyone else of a similar stature to him (or better), in our budget, and then you’re looking at names like Ogbene (older, on high wages), and Nkeng could prove to be the better long term play.  We’ve had our fingers burnt with Apter, but let’s see.  It’s an investment imo on the basis that it was JRS or no-one for the reported 5m etc

Just because we had money for JRS which sadly didn’t happen it doesn’t mean we have to spend it on another player. If our targets are not available or there’s nobody Jones fancies then it’s far better to hold onto the money to either top up in January or to add to next summers budget. Perhaps the “extra” we now have enabled us to sign Nkeng. I’ve no real knowledge of Skipp but you don’t play 70 odd games for Spurs without having something. I think Jones will get it out of him.
I get the "but he played for Spurs" / "but he played in the prem" arguments, but just because he played for Spurs in the past doesn't mean he's any good now. Djimi Traoré had played just shy of 100 games for Liverpool, and started in their Champions League final vs Milan, before we signed him. How did that one go?

Hopefully it's just his confidence is shot at the moment and if he signs he'll get that back with us, but only time will tell, and it's a definite risk if we're paying him anywhere near the wages he's on currently and we end up with the same player the Leicester fans are seeing right now.
Playing 100 times in the prem makes you a good player.

He’s been in a poor side and I’d imagine his confidence is totally shot, but you don’t make 100 appearances in the top league in the world if you’re not any good
That’s what I thought when we signed Hasslebaink
He had totally stopped caring and was 35??? ish

    More likely a 44 XXXL. 😉
