@Algarveaddick - I’m sure there must be some good landlords. The problem is that our legislation, with respect to housing, is so broken, so feudal and so stacked in favour of those who make money from other peoples need for a home. This isn’t specifically about renting but:

Probably and almost certainly a bit hash but this isn't a one off for me. Good to know you do these things to maintain your property.Algarveaddick said:
Bit harsh, based on one experience, we are all horrible? In the place we let out we have just paid for a new front door and the whole surround (having paid for new locks a couple of years ago, even though it was the tennant's fault). We Also replaced the bathroom two years ago, which basically wrote off a years income. We charge 25% less than the going rate for the area.charltonkeston said:
My son has bought a property this year, an ex-HMO. Its had the most minimum maintenance done to it since it was built 40 years ago, just the basics to keep it legal. The landlord who was the original owner has lived abroad for many years, he cut up a family house/home and squeezed 4 families and 12 children into this 4 bed house. Thats not an exaggeration, 20 people in one house, that bit couldn't have been legal as well as being a vile way to treat fellow humans.FreshHaddock said:Being a leaseholder and resident in a block of flats where every other flat is owned by a non-resident private landlord. They employ and control (using this countries terrible legislation) useless agents who get paid to do virtually nothing so that the landlords don't have to pay to have things properly maintained because god forbid there be any restriction on their ability to exploit their tenants to maximise their profits. This results in those tenants having no incentive whatsoever to give a damn about their local community and a downward spiral ensues.
I can see, (we've smashed a few things out), that it has only been redecorated once since new, that was to sell it and that was a landlord special, one coat of paint thrown on thick.
The landlord has had some fantastic money out of this house but he couldn't or wouldn't do anything to improve the lives of those who have paid the mortgage on it. Also the neighbours have had to put up with hell and seen their property value suffer because of him. I struggle to believe there are nice landlords.2 -
My wife also owns half a house with her brother, which is leasehold, so we know all about this piss take. Because her and her brother charge way below the going rate on that place too and agreed on a very low annual rental increase as the tenants are very old, with the ever increasing charges and "work" that needs doing which the leaseholders charge for and add commission to, she actually makes less money now than five years ago.FreshHaddock said:@Algarveaddick - I’m sure there must be some good landlords. We do appreciate that we are still fortunate to be in this position.0 -
I know what you mean, I think it’s improving in London, a lot cafes now do and even some restaurants, though I took my dog 🐕 to a couple of restaurant’s but probably wouldn’t again, not much fun for my dog, if you intend staying all night. Good to have the option. Maybe outside of London are a bit slow to catch up?Valley Ant said:Taking my dog with us for a family day out with the grandkids only to find out that she's not allowed in pretty much anywhere we want to go.

I love dogs and cats, but I don't think they belong in restaurants, also 10 to 20% of people are allergic to dogs.sillav nitram said:

Agree mate, nothing against dogs but don’t want to be sat next to/near one while I’m eating a meal. To be fair, 9 out of 10 times it’s the owners who are inconsiderate and don’t keep them quiet/under control, not the dogs fault. Many see them as babies and can’t work out that some people don’t want them jumping up or sniffing around them.Algarveaddick said:

Mostly, I find parents who can't control their kids to be more of a problem in that enviroment, dogs generally are far better behaved.DaveMehmet said:

Football pundits, Ian Wright and Jamie Carragher mainly, referring to their former clubs as ‘we’.

Carragher was a one club man too. Maybe not so much Wrighty, but I'd rather hear him say it about the Woolwich Rejects than "them"...gringo said:

When people spend more than half an hour telling you every detail of the holiday they've just come back from.
Is it just my family who do this?
"Oh, and the service! Oh my god, the service... They can't do enough for you. You can be sat by the pool, ring a little bell, or wave your hand, over they come..."4 -
Be grateful you haven’t had to sit through 4 hours of slides/photos/videos. Take your pick as it was all of them! There wasn’t enough shit wine to help me through that bollix let me tell you!Chunes said:When people spend more than half an hour telling you every detail of the holiday they've just come back from.

But in better news - my latest litter picking uncovered a classy, empty, box of truffles alongside the usual condom, McD bags and nitrous oxide canisters. Romance isn’t dead. Whoever shags up our lane is upping their game.22

Bands that don’t tell you anything about any of their songs at live gigs.
and also
Bands that bang on endlessly about what inspired them to write this dreary ballad or that ‘chewing gum for the ears’ dirge.0 -
This is specific, rather than general, but I need to get it off my chest.
When you are only in the UK for five days and redeem a fifty quid Moopig voucher with a 60 day usage limit intending to use it at Ask Italian in Beckenham to eat after the Portsmouth game. Then when you go to book, it won't take any bookings after the 10th. So you query it with head office and they tell you it's closing down on the 9th...
How's yer luck? 🤬
