JRC is great at the end of a match when the opposition midfielders are tired so he gets more time on the ball and there’s more space for him to pass in to.MuttleyCAFC said:I'd start JRC above Skipp. Skipp has to show he is ready.
We always clamour for players to start when they’re good off the bench, sometimes it’s better to let that player just be a bench option21 -
He only had a one match ban?Southbank said:

If you want free flowing attacking and winning football, go watch Millwall……oh 😂Pelling1993 said:Sick and tired of this winless run tbh. Haven't had a dopamine hit since 17:30 on Saturday....2 -
They don't play the same position but Coventry can't be dropped. He has been one of our best players so far and JRC can play with him if Chalobah isn't fit.3
-
Probably already been mentioned but after making the defensive header why was it left to Bindon to then try & close the man down, somebody else should have been out there.MuttleyCAFC said:Thought West Brom were the best passing side we have played in a long time. WIth that though, they didn't create that much. I thought the ref helped them a bit but he wasn't terrible. They will be a vey hard team to beat at the Hawthorns so it is a decent resulr. Being picky but I think Bindon needed to try to head the ball out wider.
Again also probably already been covered but their's was an own goal wasn't it ? Surely it took a deflection, would AO have reached it but for that ?4 -
Looking at the size of our team now, I wouldn't fancy their chances!Pelling1993 said:

Couldn't keep up with West Brom they passed around us with ease they just didn't have any end product. Picking up points when your not playing well is great stuff. Please don't play Bell LB when we go with a four at the back it doesn't work, team will need rotating as they chased the ball the whole game was hard work. Big shout out to Leaburn had no support but worked his socks off been really pleased with him this season definitely gone up a gear.1

It is the big worry for WBA fans. They are much better than last season but a bit toothless. Okonkwo had to make a few saves but nothing amazing.TD_Addick said:Couldn't keep up with West Brom they passed around us with ease they just didn't have any end product. I thought I'd ask AI for its opinion on fouls on Leaburn. It seems to make sense:Miles Leaburn gets fouled heavily because of his massive 6'7" physical frame and holding-centric style of play, which referees frequently misinterpret as mutual physical battling rather than illegal targeting. [1, 2]As a prominent target man for Charlton Athletic, his unique profile makes him a regular victim of unpunished challenges due to several tactical and officiating factors:Why He Draws So Many Fouls
- Extreme Height Advantage: Standing at roughly 6'7" (196 cm), defenders simply cannot compete with Leaburn cleanly in the air or during hold-up play. They routinely resort to tugging, leaning, and climbing over his back to disrupt him. [1, 2, 3]
- Flick-On and Hold-Up Style: Statistical profiles from WhoScored explicitly highlight that Leaburn "gets fouled often" due to his tendency to protect the ball and lay off flick-ons. Because he keeps his body between the defender and the ball, opponents are forced to commit fouls to stop Charlton's momentum. [1]
Why Referees Don't Punish the Defenders- The "Big Man" Officiating Bias: In football, referees often subconsciously allow defenders to be much more physical with exceptionally tall or strong strikers. Officials frequently view heavy contact against giant forwards as a "fair physical battle," assuming the larger player can absorb the impact.
- Mutual Holding Perception: Because Leaburn actively uses his own arms and upper body strength to hold off defenders, referees regularly write off blatant fouls as "mutual holding". As noted by professional refereeing insights, if a giant forward tries to stay on his feet despite being pulled, officials are highly unlikely to blow the whistle or hand out yellow cards.
- EFL/Championship Physicality: Playing in the highly competitive EFL Championship, the baseline threshold for what referees allow is naturally higher and more aggressive than in top-tier European leagues.

Calls for JRC starting is hilarious. He’s got his strengths but I’ve seen milk turn quicker.10

Plenty of very good footballers aren't quick. Barry Bannan is a dickhead but quality, he's easily slower than JRC and has been incredibly effective for many years.ValleyGary said:Calls for JRC starting is hilarious. He’s got his strengths but I’ve seen milk turn quicker.3 -
923 is a good turnout and they supported brilliantly.10

In a different system though. A Nathan Jones starting midfielder needs to be more mobilePelling1993 said:

But we have a system that’s working at the moment, surely JRC doesn’t make sense to start in the Chabolah/Mwamba role?Pelling1993 said:

The Charlton website is selling tickets for QPR, saying he 'could' make his debut on that night, but I think he 'could' make his debut on Saturday.

Might as well say he "could" make his debut against Portsmouth on September 12th.
I would assume soneone at the club, like me, thought that League Cup games didn't count.

They also put it on the Bindon announcement. It’s purely a way to get a ticket link into the articlegolfaddick said:

You can have a slowish player at defensive midfield, but not at 10. They have to be pretty mobile. Costello is not a defensive mid.Pelling1993 said:

I think Leaburn needs to turn out with his head bandaged and with some tomato ketchup dabbed on it, strapping on his legs and his arm in a sling, maybe then they will treat him with a bit more sympathy.MuttleyCAFC said:I appreciate it is almost certainly my poor eyesight but I thought when JRC made that late dash to intercept the ball, wasn't he fouled? The ref seemed to think it was ok but was happy for Leaburn to be fouled all night .He was through if he got past their player. Is it worth the club compililng a video of fouls on Leaburn that refs let go and sending to the EFL? Would it help if it was brought to the attention of refs, just to put it in their minds? Probably not.
As for Skipp, he probably needs to be on the bench and play for the U-21s for a few games. And JRC looks a different player from last season. Finally Bindon. Looked ok if a bit slow. Seems to have a good long throw. I think he should have done better for the goal clearling wide rather than in shooting range but may be being over picky.3 -

My first game in person since the second play off semi v Wycombe at the Valley, and the first time ive
seen us this season.
For the first time in a number of years, we seem at last to have competent players in all positions across
the park. It really makes a difference.
Good to see a calm and capable keeper for the first time in years. Nice not to have heart failure every time some one gets a sniff of goal.
Thought it was a good first half, felt West Brom were nothing special and that we would score at least one. Unfortunately we were half asleep at the start of the second half when they put us under a lot pressure, which eventually led to them scoring.
Shame we didn’t get our first 3 subs on sooner. They were all standing there ready to come on while we were busy conceding the Albion goal.
JRC really made a positive impact when he came on, a couple of great driving forward runs including for
the goal.
Bindon did well, seeings as he’s only just arrived. Looked calm and collected.
Lloyd Jones was immense, pretty much getting to everything that came his way.
Also should note that Leaburn made some important contributions in defence as well as making TC’s goal.
Consistently poor from the officials, ignoring fouls on us and blowing up every time one of them fell over. Linesmen never seemed to know which way to award the throws until the ref had already decided.8 -
It’s a Valley debut in front of his home supporters. That’s why it’s significantgolfaddick said:
