What my Spurs mate said about him
'Good guy. Solid. Won’t set the world alight, but he was sort of a fav at The Lane, partly because he was home grown, but also because he gave his all.'
This isnt just any Greg Docherty replacement, this is an M&S Greg Docherty replacement
  • Spoke to a Spurs season ticket holder (lapsed) and asked him about Skipp. His reply is encouraging. Quietly unspectacular but give him a specific role and job to do so that he knows what he’s expected to do and he’s mustard. Never disappears.

    That’ll do nicely I think.

I can see the rationale of the signing, given we’ve got a number of imponderables in central midfield, namely, Chalobah’s fitness issues, Mwamba’s youth and the fact that Ouma is untested at this level. I don’t think that Nathan would want to start Rankin-Costello there, given his lack of pace and stamina.

Oliver Skipp certainly has a point to prove and that was always something that Lennie and the Curbs looked for in a player.

I’m guessing that Leicester are paying the lion’s share of his wages. As well as reducing the monthly wage bill, they may also be hoping that, if he does well at Charlton, another club may offer to take him off their hands in either January (assuming there’s a recall clause) or next summer.

I doubt he’s on £50k pw now after two relegation seasons so he definitely has everything to prove. His next permanent move will define his career.

Lloyd Jones in a recent online interview signed off saying “Up the F(Bleep) Addicks”

Nothing official but it was mentioned last year that the Leicester squad didn't have relegation clauses in their contracts.

From my Spurs mate (long time season ticket holder):

"Skippy!! I won’t have a bad word said against him. Will he win the Ballon d’Or? Fuck no. But he’s solid, stocky, works really hard. He’s a good old fashioned holding midfielder who was great at getting himself into the right positions. Also not scared of getting involved. Would throw himself into challenges with no sense of what it could do to damage himself or opponents.

He started getting games under Poch in a time when there was criminal under-investment in the team. Under other circumstances he might not have got a look-in. I think he’ll do well for you."

Sounds like a Nathan Jones player.

Sounds like the sort of player who will thrive under Jones.

Felt like today’s game could have done with someone like that.

Remember when I said I'd ask my Leicester season ticket mate who usually has nothing nice to say, well, here's what he's had to say and I am shocked.

Now let me tell ya, this lad is proper grumpy and usually has an eye for a player, if he says someone is good, I usually trust his judgement. Excited to see what Skipp can offer.

Are you sure he's 25? Looks older than my dad (76)
I mean come on, there’s definitely some pot/kettle going on here…
If your dad is 76 then you’re likely younger than me but from memory the one time we met (that POTY dinner that we went to with @Davo55 , @Arsenetatters and @AFKABartram )
I’d have had you down as being closer to 76 than me and that was what 10-yrs ago now?
    😉
This has to be one of the most savage take downs in CL history! Ouch!

New arrival Oliver Skipp could be in line for his first involvement for Charlton having served his suspension for the red card he picked up during his last outing for parent club Leicester City.

Worth letting them know he's still suspended.

According to the OS, the trip to the Bet365 "may come a little too soon" for Billy Koumetio, Charlie Kelman and Josh Edwards..... Would like to see Big Bill and Kelman back in the next week. Would be a big boost. The fact Chalobah is listed in the top group is a bit concerning.

Wouldn’t surprise me if the 2 in the 4-2-3-1 were Ouma and Skipp tomorrow

Thinking of this, leaving the signing until AFTER Leicester played is very shrewd if done on purpose. Skipp wouldn't have been eligible to play on Wednesday and so his suspension would probably have carried over to Stoke

No, he would have been eligible to play on Wednesday. Unless we signed him during the afternoon before their game. Which would have been stupid

Don't think Coventry will be dropped - he is generally one of the fittest in the squad with a very good injury record.

Agree, and I wouldn’t really want to drop him, but he was one of the ones identified last season as struggling in the 3 game weeks (I think he was rested for the Hull and/or Preston away games from memory having already played two games in those weeks)

Just want to say that the influence of Chalobah for his limited game time so far has been immense.
From the Cheltenham game you can see the class he has.It also has enabled Coventry to shine ( one of our best players so far this season) and the arm around TC when he scored and the smile that followed shows how important a role he will play
We all knew about his injury record but I think when he does play and his dressing room influence will be significant

But how long is he out for? I hope it’s not too long but NJ fudged it when asked. And you’ve got to wonder if that was a factor in getting Skipp in.
  • Whilst not totally happy with the signing I do have to admit a couple of years ago we wouldn’t be able to even fathom signing a player with his pedigree and stature within the game.

We’ve come so far in such a short amount of time. As Nathan Jones said it’s a good time to be a Charlton fan

Spoke to a Leicester fan today who was actually v positive re Skipp’s commitment and contribution. Said their problem with him was solely the price tag.

I’d like to retract this statement
