Think there will likely be a few changes, can see Mesik start in place of Bell. Would like to see JRC start after his good cameo. I don’t think Leaburn looked particularly strong against West Brom but that’s fine. Interesting to see who is out after picking up a knock from the other night… I do wonder how many games McNamara can do is quick succession without some form of rotation there.

It would be nice if we could rotate DMac, but unless you play Mesik there and Bell LB I don't know how you'd do it. Nkeng has played Wingback but it'd be a big ask to play RB on your Championship debut. Obviously JRC has played there but I just can't see him playing there for Jones. We're stretched very thin at the moment unfortunately. It doesn't sound like we'll be getting many, if any, back before the international break (as an aside, I hate the three week break but that's another story for another time).1 -
Doesn’t sound great some are carrying knocks - hopefully they make it or nobody crucial. Bell can and should be easily replaced by Mesik for example.
Sounds like Koumetio and Kelman should be back before international break if they are almost ready2 -

This would be very winnable without the big disadvantage of the extra day’s rest they’ve got. I think we’ll see loads of changes for this to keep it as fresh as possible, especially with one eye on going again Wednesday and Saturday next week.

In terms of resting and keeping an eye on the next game….. surely we are always keeping an eye on the next game. Understand this is a condensed run of matches but otherwise we will never play our best team. At some point you have to just play your best eleven.
Think Bell is an exception as he is an injury risk so should be swapped for Mesik, and maybe Mbick needs to do the first 60 and Leaburn the last 30 this time:

Stoke are in a false position, when you consider they’ve played the 1st, 4th and 5th best team this season with 2 expecting playoffs at the minimum and 1 being the championship dark horses.They’ve spent 35M this window as well which is just absolutely ridiculous. Pair that with them having an extra days rest than us playing two games at home back to back with us having ones less day and away back to back.Heart says we nick a 1-1 draw, head says we lose 3-1 although the result shouldn’t change that we’ve had a fantastic start to the season6

When you are on a roll, you are on a roll. If it wasn’t tough enough on Stoke already, they now come up against a team joint top (only goal difference keeps the Addicks in third currently). Nothing to fear. Sorba Thomas has left the club - a thorn he was - and while they have brought in a fair few they have lost just as many.Robbins is under pressure and think we are strong enough squad wise and mentality wise this season to go for the three points. Just hope we are a bit more front footed in this game as we have more players to hurt teams this season vs last.

Agree with this being what I think will happen. I reckon they’ll not risk starting Miles for the greater good. If he gets crocked, we are royally screwed and he’s been cramping up at the end of games. The way the fixtures have fallen for this one hasn’t been kind to us at all. A draw would be as impressive as West Brom even though I don’t think Stoke are as good as West Brom.0 -

If anyone wants a clue as to our midfield today, Coventry came off at the end despite having a stormer last game (Nathan framed it as giving Carey a chance to kill them at the end again). I suspect he will get a much deserved rest and that he is one of the knocks sjh referred to

Just watched the highlights from the three nil last season. I must have wiped my mind of that game for good reason. Positive would be though that Okonkwo would stop all 3 of those goals, so we've come a long way. Shows how having a poor keeper can cost you.0

Not sure why everyone is leaving Mwamba out, especially if Coventry is rested . He has a thankless task on Wednesday and was hardly terrible . JRC and Ouma improved things due to the change in system. Can’t believe either of them would have done better in a 424.

I suspect every team is in that same ‘injuries and rest’ boat. It’s been a wham bam start to the season to cram as much football in before that long break that’s looming. There’s been no honeymoon period to ease players in and get them match fit. My guess is a lot of unnecessary injuries have been caused in every club as a result of players having to push themselves too fast too soon and increasingly with new and less match fit replacements coming into the side as the games come around.ProperCharlton said:Worried that the injuries and need to rest players is gonna catch up with us.

The Cheltenham game was on 8th August. Today is the 5th September. This will be the 7th game of the season for us and most of the Championship… and we go again at home to QPR on Wednesday (9th September).2 -

Cov deserves a rest, he’s been exceptional for us so far. Like many players last season he became less effective as he had to play so much.Hopefully Chalobah is fit and we play Ouma and Chalobah with skipp to come on0
