When I spoke to my spurs mate about the double injury to Koumetio and Collins, he instantly went "mate I'm telling you, it's our pitch".Weegie Addick said:This is damning. And quite upsetting.
I think I read Spurs are doing an investigation into it but might be wrong.
Gutted for Sichenje, hopefully the recovery goes well and he comes out the other end okay.3 -
They played a friendly on Saturday 15th against Hoffenhein.sam3110 said:

Blame Burke’s flimsy body2

Also gutting that Collins will miss a home African Cup of Nations as well.3

Seen the question about his injury history come up a couple of times since. As per above, no history of long term injuries, just been very unlucky since arriving.Callumcafc said:He missed 4 games in 2024/25 and 3 games in the first half of 2025/26 before we signed him. That’s 7 total games missed (not in the matchday squad) from a possible 57 as there are 37 games in a league season in Serbia, not 30 as previously stated on this thread.None of the games he missed were back to back, indicating no history of lengthy injury issues and could equally be attributed to suspension or other off field issues without proper sources to check.

I asked my mate Martin Cloak of Spurs Supporters Trust about the pitch rumours:
“It’s a popular theory, but there is no evidence it’s based on fact. It’s grass, not 3G. They have carried out a study recently that found no basis for the theory. Our injuries are more likely down to changing managers frequently with the attendant big change in training routines.”

There are certainly differing opinions at Tottenham. I did the stadium tour and the dyed in the wool fan who was the guide in the pitch area certainly bought into the injury theory. The pitch is regrown off site every year - grass through plastic as most clubs have these days - then it is brought in and laid on sand on top of concrete.2
-
the view on the Spurs pitch is that it's really firm, and players are more likely to get studs caught in the surface because of that, there is very little below the surface so less give. Has a tendency to be slick on top and then rock hard underneath2
-
So a study carried out by spurs shows that spurs aren’t putting people at risk.PragueAddick said:I asked my mate Martin Cloak of Spurs Supporters Trust about the pitch rumours:

Seems legit.2 -
It's a retractable pitch... When you look at the pictures of it being retracted and you realise how shallow it is. It's a thin layer of turf layed on concrete.

Think those photos say a lot.1

If I remember rightly Collins clashed with a Spurs player immediately prior to his injury and hopped around in the immediate aftermath of the clash.0

Have a lot of injuries been attributed to the pitch over all the sports played on it?, would open a big can of worms were it to be proved it’s a contributing factor. Like Len said he had taken that knock before the main incident. Real shame for the fella.0

Well the only other sport played regularly there is NFL and that uses a different pitchSword65pf said:Have a lot of injuries been attributed to the pitch over all the sports played on it?, would open a big can of worms were it to be proved it’s a contributing factor. Is the NFL artificial? Or hybrid?fenaddick said:

Yes I know. But they have lost players to ACL injuries themselves, and he is not the type for blind loyalty to his club whatever.Stu_of_Kunming said:

Seems legit.I have no idea what to think about this. What I do think about is that both his injuries with us came when he stayed on the pitch after sustaining what looked like a serious injury ( a hamstring is serious in that it should be game over when it happens). I think we should be asking first about how we have cared for a player needing to adjust to a more intense physical game style than he is used to, before we start blaming other clubs.2 -

I think Real Madrid have a similar pitch and also have had a lot of injuries/ACL injuries0
-
Spurs have had a huge amount of injuries since moving to the stadium so naturally people will blame the pitch. However Real Madrid also have the same retractable pitch system and so far they've not had anywhere near as many injuries as Spurs, although Carvajal and Rodrygo did both do their ACL since the pitch came into use. 2 players in 2 years isn't enough to blame the pitch though.Swisdom said:
Yeah, 4g grass laying on concrete - what could possibly go wrong........follett said:The grounds with retractable pitches like Spurs are seemingly seeing more ACL injuries than expected. Probably just a coincidence0 -
