Hope he doesn’t but NJ may feel he has to go 3-5-2 if nobody is returning, if so who plays as the wingbacks? Mesik left, who on the right? Vinson , jones, Bell back 3.
Alli or Nkeng maybe? Both have played wing back previously a fair bit and would work as an attacking wing back option in our old set up

I don’t think we should or will change to a back 3 though
Playing Alli as wingback would be disastrous
We do not have the wingbacks in the squad to play 5 at the back, except in an emergency. Somebody suggested TC, our highest goalscorer FFS.

Surely we aren’t seriously considering starting Nkeng as a wing/full back?

This team picks itself.  Ideally I would like to rest Bell and let Mesik play on his favorite side, but buggers can't be boozers.

Wild card. Try Ethan Brown and/or Phoenix Valentine at RB. They are not little kids. Both 19. Time for them to be knocking on the door.

We've already lost this one haven't we, by at least 2 clear goals some might say.

    Can’t see why not.
  • Having a feeling Mesik might suffer due to his versatility, seems to be just as good at RB, LB and CB might mean he doesn’t nail down a position because he can fill in everywhere.

quality pick up though, really like him.

JRC at rb would concern me. Smyth would be a stripey blur going past him, always seems to play well against us. They took Chair and Kone off with knocks Wednesday but one or both possibly available Wednesday. I don't like us keep moving Ivan around but I'd start him at rb and hope Bell can manage 1 more before a possible rest Saturday when the Mac Russell returns and Ivan can go to the left.
This is the thing …… why does everyone else seem to dig in and the players get back. If that were us we wouldn’t see them for a month.

We never seem to get small knocks …. Everything seems to a be a month at least

Agree with this. Assuming that Bell isn't running on fumes at this point then i think the XI picks itself.

Back 4 is obvious unless we play JRC at RB and move Mesik to LB.

Only other possible change is to play Alli on the ring, and move Grant to the '10' instead of Carey. But i think the team posted above is what it will be.

I tend to agree but i think in modern day football with the amount of games and the intensity, you'll find a lot of players play with knocks.

Look at Godden in our promotion season. Lloyd Jones has played many times whilst carrying an injury, and i'm pretty sure NJ said the same about Ramsay in the past. The other day at Stoke, NJ said Campbell had a tight groin which is why he was subbed off at 3-0 down.

In most cases you won't hear about the injuries, so i think many players just dig in and play. Obviously though there are certain injuries where you can't play (for example Kelman with his shoulder and Koumetio with his hamstring), and they're the ones we seem to get too many of.

Noticed Bell had some strapping on his hand. If that’s his injury then I feel a lot more comfortable with him playing through it. If it’s something else then maybe more of a concern

Many FBs play with this strapping on one wrist, Ramsay does, must be other than Injury. Perhaps to prevent injury

Many defenders get hyperextended fingers and wrists due to all the shirt pulling, tussling and hand fighting that goes on

Isn’t JRC fairly experienced at RB? Would definitely prefer that to a youngster. Would probably start Bell as we can then rest him on Saturday when McNamara is back. But if Bell genuinely can’t play then I’d go for JRC at RB & Mesik at left back.
QPR have some pretty speedy players I think, would that be a concern if JRC was at right back, obviously he had experience in that position at Blackburn, but that’s a while back isn’t it?
I maintain that JRC is a right back masquerading as a CM. Just like Sean Clare, he might see himself as a midfielder but all the best periods of his career have been as a right back and he'd be better off accepting it

I’d be inclined to go Skipp and Coventry in the middle, Mesik RB and Bell LB

get Carey back in and try to match the team up as close as possible to the one that started the season at Derby, minus the injuries and suspensions

I know the games have come thick and fast and players need to be managed, but we’ve only got 3 games until the intl break, there’s no midweek game next week, so I hope that within reason, we go for it in terms of putting the best possible starting XI on the pitch and let’s target these next two home games.  If we pick up 6 points and are broken and fatigued come Cardiff, then it won’t matter, as we’ll have the points on the board.  All 3 are difficult for different reasons, but I’d say 6 points would be amazing, 4 I would accept, but I hope injuries and managing players doesn’t come into our thinking too much. The bloody intl break is 3 weeks long - that’s a long time for rest and recovery

He really is a strange one, I tend to agree with you, but we’ve not seen him at RB often for us have we?, he has shown glimpses of quality and some not so good stuff in equal measure, truth of the matter is, do we really know what he is best at?, his mobility and pace is a concern at RB, but as you say he’s played in that position for Blackburn with a certain amount of success.🤷🏻‍♂️

I think Tomasson played a few different shapes that had him occasionally at RWB but more often at RB and that was his best season with Blackburn finishing 7th and him having a really consistent run after injury in the second half of the season. The next season they signed a better RB than him, shifted him to the bench and in midfield a bit, more injuries, didn't do as well and Blackburn finished 19th. Eustace came in and then generally played him at RB and RWB and they had another decent season. Looks like if he started it was generally at RB/RWB but he came on late in games in midfield at times.
