    Being rested for next season.
Is this fact or a hunch?
It's an old joke about Terry Taylor

Ok, I added sarcasm as wasn’t sure. Thanks😂

because my heart sunk for the fella if it wasn’t a joke.
  • As a complete aside, a 3 week international break a month and a half into the new season is absolutely ludicrous.

It's to stop there being two breaks I think. I can see the logic and it does help with early season injury recovery

Think it’s going to be a bit of a blessing for us this season, don’t really enjoy them usually. Hopefully we come out of it looking a lot stronger again. A couple of good results before would be great.
  • I know someone at another club at board level who told me their manager is treating it as a mini season .... when I asked about resting players etc he said that they have a three week rest coming up, so they are just getting their heads down and going as hard as possible until next week.

In his words it has allowed clubs to be less pressured to rest players etc.

    Yes

At this point, there’s no point rushing Edwards back before the international break. Would imagine the plan for him is to use those 3 weeks as a “pre-season”. I’m sure we will have some BCD friendlies in that break that he can play in too
Surely he won't play before the break anyway given that he hasn't even played a reserve/U21 game yet. Our last fixture before the international break is in just 11 days time, so i think it's highly unlikely we see him before then.

Considering the season started exactly a month ago, I would probably go with sarcasm

Yes been explained above, but doesn’t mean he couldn’t have had a setback which was my fear.
  • NJ says he's trained fully with the group this week, as has Kelman
  • Great news
  • I'm expecting him to play some part of the game tomorrow. Either staring or on the bench.

Be surprised if it’s a start, but will get a great reception if he does get on.

Reading Cawley’s article he won’t be starting yet - not until he has played some U21’s.

But it very much sounds like he will be on the bench if not tomorrow at the weekend - alongside Kelman - which is encouraging to see.

He’ll he no way near ready to play in a league match.

Needs a couple of under 21 games to get match fit

Shame nobody told NJ about this before the Spurs game!
  • we will find out later

Unusual way to ease him back in but in NJ we trust.

Hasn't played for a year, not even in a reserve game, so in my opinion there's no chance he will be thrown in to start a league match yet. I think that would be terrible mismanagement, but then again i am not a fitness coach and don't know how ready he is.

Would be surprised to say the least to see him start, however although not at the level, we don’t know how much behind closed doors stuff he has done. I think it’s a shame the reserves aren’t a thing anymore, I know you have unders games, but not the same.

We recently seem to have a little bit of (unfortunate) form for either keeping players on longer than we should, or making them do more sooner than is best for them.
I would much rather see Edwards play bit parts for a few games and then be fully ready than throw him in and break him all over again.

I prefer it this way to the normal way of two different international breaks in autumn and early winter. Rather just get it out the way personally, rather than stopping season twice. Also, this season, it might help us out considering our injury list.

Although we had a great start, I think its why us as well as most the teams looked at being a bit under cooked to be honest in preseason, managers knew in 6 weeks we've got another potential mini preseason to get some work into the players.
  • Hopefully Kelman is on the bench.
