MATCH THREAD : Charlton Athletic V Queens Park Rangers : Wednesday 9th September 2026 : KO 20:00
Hi everyone, and good evening..Let's get back to winning ways starting tonight…
Here we are again on a Wednesday evening, getting a bit of a habit ain't it, although at least this time we are at home, and Queens Park Rangers are the visitors for a real old London derby under The Valley floodlights, QPR have had an ok start to the season, a bit like us, 3 wins, a draw and a single loss, theirs being Middlesborough at home 0-1, so I would say quite evenly matched.
Re team news, well, all the usual suspects are still absent due to various ailments, while, Danny McNamara will serve a one-game suspension following his sending off at the bet365 Stadium on Saturday, courtesy of that incompetent so called ref we had, can't even bring myself to utter his name…As for the Hoops, Ilias Chair and Richard Kone were both forced off through injury in their 1-0 defeat to Middlesbrough and will be assessed, while Boy Kemper (that's a name for ya) is a doubt and Karamoko Dembélé will be sidelined.
We've gone head-to-head on 73 occasions, and are pretty evenly matched with Charlton on 25 wins and QPR on 24, 29 of those games have been decided by a single goal, and the remaining 24 encounters ending in draws, our last meeting at The Valley ended in a 0-0 draw in February 2026, our last Valley victory came in the Championship in June 2020, with Darren Pratley netting the only goal of the game in a 1-0 win.
Tom Nield will be the man in the middle tonight, he's taken charge of 61 Championship games throughout his career, dishing out 235 yellow cards, and two red cards in that time.
TEAM…Conor Coventry and Sonny Carey return to the Charlton starting XI as Nathan Jones makes two changes for this evening’s game against Queens Park Rangers, the duo replace Timothy Ouma and Joe Rankin-Costello, who move to the substitutes bench.
Charlton: Okonkwo; Mesík, Jones (c), Bindon, Bell; Coventry, Skipp; Grant, Carey, Campbell; Leaburn
Subs: Brooks, Laqeretabua, Ouma, Rankin-Costello, Mwamba, Knibbs, Alli, Nkeng, Mbick

Need to try Bindon at RB, with Bell LCB and Mesik LB.
Back 4 were all over the place at Stoke.4 -
None of the injured have made it again. I am wondering if we are going to just go super super super cautious and limp through to the international break.2

Kone's obviously decided just to get straight into Lloyd Jones' pocket and not even bother getting onto the pitch.7

We have 9 out injured, what do you all expect the bench to look like exactly? Are we going to conjure up some new players out of thin air?11

Evening one and all, welcome to The Valley of Tranquility

It's the calm before the dullness ...12 -
Have they had another couple drop out unexpectedly tonight? Poku and Saito both randomly missing who always cause us trouble.4

Explains why Edwards cant get back in the Charlton team... He's playing for them instead!!4

Seeing as Danny Mac has an unscheduled day off today I hope he's spending his time wisely and stalking the fourth official at Stamford Bridge for the League Cup game between Chelsea and Dirty Leeds.
Bide your time and then exact revenge when Madley least expects it ...8 -

Soz I’ve put this on here but want to help find owner…👍,following on from our trip to WBA,after the game & when it had nearly cleared out,I found a Blue & Red Nike puffer jacket under a seat half way down stand…I did mention to a steward if anyone comes to claim it…(I didn’t want to leave it there) that il take back with me & hand into to The Valley reception…I’m on way to ground now & ll do exactly that ok…so if anyone knows who’s it is or could anyone please put out on other Charlton platforms for me,so it can be returned to its owner…thanksCmon U Addicks…❤️🤍6

Don’t like the back 4, very unbalanced. Wish we would try JRC at right back. He’s played it well in the past at Blackburn but NJ’s never tried it. Would just prefer having someone that’s on their natural side.1

I was just thinking it doesn't look bad, considering. Probably only 2 definite starters missing, plus Billy who is probably first choice but who Bindon is probably on a very similar level. Likewise Edwards will have to dislodge Bell or Mesik. Then probably only 3 of the bench would drop out when everyone is fit. Shows the depth of the squad compared to last year.DDOUBLEE said:We have 9 out injured, what do you all expect the bench to look like exactly? Still no kelman not even on the bench0

Hard when nine players are unavailable.Southbank said:Very poor bench2 -
Hopefully Rev Jones hasn't had a senior moment thinking Kelman's on loan and can't play against his parent club.panther10 said:Still no kelman not even on the bench3 -
Or as usual our injured players are nowhere close to coming back as NJ implies. Presumably to confuse the opposition.... and the supporters.DamoNorthStand said:None of the injured have made it again.
