Northants 201-4 (77)
Still 171 behind but, with only 33 overs to go, will struggle to get more than 2 batting bonus points now2 -
Ahmed now has figures of 30-8-94-8 in the match4
-
Not one of the 18 counties have won less games than Surrey this season in the CC. They aren't going to be winning their current match either given Glamorgan are 285-3 in their second innings for a lead of 302. Just saying.7
-
And Dudgeon has Balderson’s off stump cartwheeling. 163/74
-
Dudgeon bowls Balderson
163-7 for a lead of 1103 -
Hopefully clean up the tail quickly. Expecting a target between 150-200. Anything above 180 is going to take some effort based on how it's gone so far.4
-
Milnes gets a bit of tap but then Bailey edges him to Muyeye for 8. 178/8.7
-
Need to keep Hurst away from the strike. Stanley (6.15 this season) and Anderson (3.42) are rabbits in the great scheme of things and we should expect to knock them back fairly quickly.2

Northants 224-6 and trail by 148 still0

Dudgeon gets hit for 12 by Hurst in four balls but then the batter hits it straight up and is caught by DBD
192-94 -
Geoff Hurst tonking Dudgeon.2

Hurst tried to prove you right @Addick Addict. He’s opened his shoulders and just hit Dudgeon for 4-2-0-6, then skied the fifth ball to DBD and is out for 27. 192/9. Jimmy to the crease.4

Excellent need to finish it quicklyPeter_G said:Hurst tried to prove you right @Addick Addict. He’s opened his shoulders and just hit Dudgeon for 4-2-0-6, then skied the fifth ball to DBD and is out for 27. 192/9. Jimmy to the crease.1 -
Last wicket to Milnes and his third in the innings
192 all out so our target is 1407 -
You asked; Matt Milnes delivered. Mitch Stanley’s middle stump is knocked over. 192 all out. Kent will have something like 16 overs, light permitting, although it is pretty good just now.LenGlover said:

Have we bowled well or is the wicket assisting the bowlers?0
-
If we lost this game from this position then we really do not deserve to go up. We all know who their main threat is but, hopefully, we will see him off.2
-
Oyyy Cowdrey!! Now would be a great time for a big innings!!1

Good question. The wicket is certainly greenish, but it doesn’t look that deadly to me. Look at how many wickets are tumbling in almost every other game. Playing CC cricket in mid September, rather than say July, has got to be a factor.sillav nitram said:Have we bowled well or is the wicket assisting the bowlers?3 -
Jimmy Anderson left stranded, just 100 runs short of his maiden century.Addick Addict said:Last wicket to Milnes and his third in the innings

Northants 238-7 (92.2) and 134 behind. They might not even get one batting bonus point!3

Compton bowled by Bailey for 5 (15)
10-11 -
Compton clean bowled by Bailey. 10/1. 😳1

I'm even more convinced that this is the way to go. Compton just looks so out of sorts with scores of 8, 0, 4, 4, 6 & 5 in his last six innings.Addick Addict said:Should Compton fail again in the second innings then I do not see how he can play in the final game. He has been desperately out of form with five consecutive single digit scores (season average 24.71) but also doesn't bowl. Nor, for that matter (and I include Muyeye in that) do any of our top five. Therein lies the other issue - the balance of the side, the ability to include a spinner and not have a tail that starts at 8.
Dawkins would be the obvious replacement, but he doesn't help the balance and hasn't been in great form in the first or second XIs recently. This might sound a radical proposal and some might think I am being biased in suggesting this, but I would open with Ekansh. This is anything but a strange position for him as he did the job throughout age group cricket and he is probably one of our most technically sound batters.Ekansh batted at 3 in the CC last season scoring 49 (90) and 27 (24) against Northants then 33 (68) against Leicestershire and 60 (139) against Lancashire. That's 169 runs at an average of 42 (80) for the only times he's batted in the top three. The reason he's been batting at 7 this season is to accommodate all the missing batters from last season and the return of Northeast.
Worst case scenario is that Ekansh matches Compton's single digit scores - but he will still be there to bowl. Second best is that he gets say 25 and faces 50 plus deliveries of the new ball thereby meaning Northeast and co aren't rushing to get their pads on. Anything beyond that would be an added bonus but as he proved last season he is capable of batting in the top three.
There is another aspect to this too. For a youngster, coming in at 7, can be mentally tough in terms of decision making especially when you end up batting with the tail. That has been Ekansh's issue, sometimes, as his shot selection has been impacted by the situation he has found himself in. Opening the batting is far easier, so far as decision making is concerned, as all the parameters are known ones - keep out the good balls and score off the bad ones.
Promoting Ekansh would mean that we can play five seamers and a spinner and our tail will still look better:
Crawley
Ekansh
Northeast
Muyeye
DBD
Benjamin
Stewart
Foreman
Dudgeon
Milnes
AhmedI’m now hoping that Compton reads this and that it galvanises him into hitting a ton in the second innings!

Yours to lose now I fear...1
