Cardiff train ticket refunds

Just a heads-up for those unaware…

If you were booked on the 3:20 Cardiff to Paddington on Saturday that was cancelled, you can get a refund from GWR. As the following train was scheduled 62 mins later it means 100% refund for Single tickets or 50% refund for Returns.

It doesn't matter if you took the little Bristol detour, you can still claim. I've already had my claim approved.

Given it's a quiet week, making this sticky for a bit so those affected don't miss it.

Well done most were on my 3.30 and it was a 2 carriage train.

I put a claim in as I had selected the 15.20 to come back on not realising the others had booked the 16.20 and that the 15.20 wouldn’t have given much time for a post match pint anyway so the 16.20 suited me and I also had an open return if the 15.20 hadn’t been cancelled. I stuck a claim in last night (thanks for the reminder @F-Blocker) for half the cost of the return ticket and the automatic acknowledgement email said that if it was successful I’d be eligible for half that as a refund. We were drinking in Wetherspoons so the 50% would more than cover that.

Just noticed an email to say the claim has been approved. 😁

I had a subsequent email to say it would be paid and could take 5-10 days.

just checked my account and the money is already in it.
  • I'm feeling left out. Was due on both the cancelled trains and put my claim in with GWR on Saturday night and nothing so far.

    Thank you. Claim sent.
I vote that there should always be a train refund sticky for any game where there is a sniff of a train delay.

Have the club announced anything about match ticket refunds yet.
I think Alli and Ouma might have been tasked to pass it to you. Check with your neighbours to see if it went to them…

    😁

Cheers, yes, I have. I am also logging into my GWR account where it has the status of the claims as "pending."

Can I claim on an off-peak return?

My understanding is that the off-peak return is not applicable to set trains, if this is the case I am sure you are not entitled to a refund.
    Perhaps @clive can confirm this?

  • Can I claim on an off-peak return?
    I basically did, I think

When buying the tickets I selected the outward journey and the return journey (15.20) and when I went to pay it suggested the open return ticket was cheaper, so I selected that and paid for it. My selected trains still showed on the account and the confirmation email attachment.

When I made the claim it wanted a download copy of the journey I was claiming for and that was available on my confirmation of purchase email so I saved that to files on my phone and then selected the file for download to the claim.

they approved it and paid up.
  • They are hard work but even 15 mins delay is eligible, don't ask don't get

That's interesting. I had an open return but was planning to travel on the two cancelled trains. That's what I have put in to be refunded. Most folk seem to have already been paid and I am still waiting. Ironically, my fare was almost double what my pal paid for his specific trains that he's already had his money back on.

i claimed for just the specific (return) journey and basically, where it asks how much you are claiming, I simply halved the cost of the open return that I paid for. Is that what you did or have you claimed for the full cost of the open return ?

I did separate claims for each leg of the journey. As both were over an hour delayed in theory I should be entitled to a full refund. (I think.)
