5 of the Irish team refusing to play against Israel. Odds are the whole team will pull out now.

    It’s got completely ridiculous imho
And I’m not getting into the politics of it. The vilification that the players have received from some is nothing short of disgraceful.
I really hope Conor will be getting some support from the Club when he gets back.
A situation that should never have arisen and could and should have been avoided.

The fact it’s falling to the players and individual names are being mentioned is a disgrace. As ever, the FAI are a complete shambles

Israeli player celebrated a goal against Austria by using a corner flag as a gun to imitate a gunshot. Scum.
The defense is that 'he always does that celebration', as if that makes it any better and not worse.

The Irish government should partly be responsible too. They gave no support to the FAI and pretty much left it up to them.

The FAI as always made a pig's ear out of it. Should never have been up to the players, especially the day before the match

It also looks bad as we were so fucking shit against Kosovo, somewhat weakens the stance but fair play to the players for standing up to what they believe in

But were they ‘so fucking shit’ because their minds have been completely overtaken by nonsense they should never have had to deal with. And I don’t say ‘fair play’ for standing up to what they believe in as some have quite clearly been bullied into it by the noise from some quarters.

It’s been an absolute bollix, all of it.

I sent Conor a message on insta to tell him I fully supported him whatever he decided as he’s one of us and it’s his job. I doubt he’ll read it as he’s probably had loads of other messages telling him he’s a c***. Awful.😞😞

Sorry for maybe derailing the thread a tad VG but I’m genuinely worried about Conor.

I won't restate my views on Israel but the action of the five (or more?) means that the responsibility for dealing  with an apartheid/genocide situation will finally lie where it belongs, with EUFA.

Can’t believe there’s been no goals in the sweaty game, not for the want of trying though.

Who is calling him a c**t?
He wasn't bullied into anything. Players took a vote and decided to play the game

There’s been plenty of folk calling the players out for even thinking about playing. I live here, I’m seeing it.
Thankfully they have decided to play as they had a vote and majority wanted to. Good.
Unfortunately that won’t be the end of it and I sincerely hope the players will be ok.

Not wanting to get into the politics of it but I’ve always wondered why Israel, and Israeli sides, compete in European competitions. Israel isn’t in Europe.

Because they got kicked out of the AFC when a lot of the AFC teams refused to play them

  • Saw an interesting bit of analysis on instagram, player by player in the Irish squad

Turns out Palace are….. involved by association, shall we say. Didn’t realise the heavy involvement in Israeli money behind the scenes at Palace.

I lost the link on the way to post it here, sadly.

Conor in the starting line up.
Wales were loosing against Denmark. Hubby has turned it over to the women’s super league grand final in disgust lol

Glad my tv license is going towards a national football match with zero content other than English in game commentary.
RTÉ who makes these decisions on behalf of your paying public?

Yes, seriously, Israel isn’t in Europe.

Israel alongside Kazakhstan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia and probably others are not geographically in Europe but are affiliated with UEFA so play in UEFA competitions.

Similarly Australia are now affiliated to the Asian Federation but are not geographically in Asia.

I think he meant 'seriously' as in it's well documented why they compete in Europe.

In the 70s they were expelled from the Asian confederation as some teams refused to play them. Their membership in the AFC was put to a vote and they were voted out.

There were a couple of world cup qualifying campaigns where they actually competed against teams from Oceania, but not sure that was viable long term because of the travel, and then in the 90s they applied and were accepted by UEFA.

Now can you explain why Australia are in the Eurovision Song Contest?

Eurovision is a pan-European television telecommunications network owned and operated by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU).

Not confined only to Europe, the EBU is the "largest community of public service media organizations throughout the world". It currently encompasses 117 television broadcasting organizations located in 57 countries of Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East, for a total of 68 associated broadcasting organizations in Europe, Africa, America, Asia, and Oceania.

I'm still making my mind up on the decision to include them.
