Bag Policy- Update

Folks
An update on the club's Bag Policy -in contacting the club I was pleased to see there is to be a relaxation of the rules - I got the below response to a query I raised with them:
"I can confirm that the policy will be changing slightly to suit small rucksacks, this is after consultation with supporters' groups and after fan feedback. The backpack you bought in the club shop falls within the newer policy so you will be able to enter The Valley with this bag. Better communication will be provided to fans and for stewards/matchday staff to relay to fans attending games here for the rest of the season."
I know that fans' groups have worked hard on this so this is good news that they and we have been listened to!

Sorry to be pedantic, but do we have the size that is considered a small rucksack?1
-
Probably the size of small rucksack that only the club shop sells.Raith_C_Chattonell said:Sorry to be pedantic, but do we have the size that is considered a small rucksack?11 -
Yes- they said the one they sell (£15) is acceptable-it is 2" bigger than A4 size but it is now within the rules...1

Like this one....https://clubshop.cafc.co.uk/collections/accessories?page=20

Regardless of bag size , the whole concept is uncalled for and strikes me as being pathetic.16

‘Newer’ ?
That (to me at least) is such poor language.2 -

Me too - 'revised' , 'updated' or 'amended' would be so much better.4 -
No measurements on this, which doesn't help!HRBryan said:Like this one....https://clubshop.cafc.co.uk/collections/accessories?page=22 -
Or, put some spin on it with 'enhanced' 😉.bobmunro said:valleynick66 said:‘Newer’ ?

I think the terminology is all wrong here.
The bag in the link above is really a knapsack.
There is no such thing as a ’small rucksack’ because a rucksack is by definition larger than a knapsack or backback. Indeed, I seem to remember back in the 70s and 80s that a rucksack specifically meant a backback with a metal frame.
Rucksacks are larger and feature more compartments and pockets to carry significantly heavier loads. They also feature hip belts and chest belts to help wearers carry them for the long run without stressing their backs. In essence, the answer to the "what is a rucksack" question is this: a rucksack is a more rugged, larger backpack built for outdoor endurance. The term "rucksack" comes from German, and it means a sack you carry on your back. Now the word is the American equivalent of "backpack" in Europe. Countries like Germany, the Netherlands, Romania, Sweden, and even Russia use the word "rucksack" to describe a sizeable and resilient bag people carry on their backs for daily use or travel. In the United States, the rucksack is a bag worn by the U.S. military, hikers, campers, globetrotters, etc.

Most backpacks you buy don't get sold by dimensions. They are usually sold by what they hold. The ones we have are x litre size.2

So is this ok?1

Do away fans have to comply with the bag policy rules? just wondering where they have to leave their bags if they are oversized.3

I only asked about size on behalf of my son who attends night games straight from the office ... He thinks he can make it work.

Finally had an email response from Spurs about my enquiry for a medical exemption for our cup game! Absolute disgrace it's taken this long to reply, apparently they've been working through a large volume of enquiries.5

Should have just hidden your stuff up your dress 😁DaveMehmet said:Finally had an email response from Spurs about my enquiry for a medical exemption for our cup game! Absolute disgrace it's taken this long to reply, apparently they've been working through a large volume of enquiries.5 -
Well, you learn something everyday. I agree with your definition of rucksack, but for some reason I always thought a knapsack was one of these:jimmymelrose said:I think the terminology is all wrong here.

Turns out, this is a bindle. And it's altogether more difficult to get an A4 sized one of these than practically any other bag. Valderee, valderah!

Will the West Stand fans be allowed to bring in their prawn sandwiches?0

The sandwiches are fine, as is my bovril, but my quilted blanket might be an issueRadostanradical said:Will the West Stand fans be allowed to bring in their prawn sandwiches?1 -

Looking up the Wolves rules for away fans, they have something similar. A4 bags only, plus a specific list of banned items

I bet there are lots of clubs with A4 bags policies. Not because there's any particular reason for that size to be the limit, but because they all copy the first one, rather than spending much time thinking about what's really necessary and appropriate. After all, if they'd thought it through, they'd know that the standard unit for measuring bag sizes is the litre, not a sheet of paper.11
-
They could make the size clearer, e.g. smaller than the garden of my uncle, but larger than the pen of my aunt4

Yes it is a disgrace. Having a chronic condition and trying to manage it is bad enough.DaveMehmet said:Finally had an email response from Spurs about my enquiry for a medical exemption for our cup game! As far as I can see that doesnt stipulate ‘A4’ size. It’s about proportional and appropriate measures.I’d love to know what stewards have been trained to spot in a bag search !4
