But has recently suffered a devastating loss with the closure of the Wimpy.Diebythesword said:
One of my colleagues is Chinese/italian, mentioned I lived in Woolwich and she said Jinshi has got quite a bit of buzz from the Chinese expat community. The culinary scene in Woolwich does punch above its weight.cabbles said:Slightly off the topic of pubs, but I like the swimming pool that’s opened up there by the square. Take my boys there, and we come all the way over from Shirley/west wickham
It’s a good setup for their ages
ate in that Chinese restaurant by the new build flats called Jinshi yesterday. Not bad either9 -

Also closed in Nottingham a few years ago. Sad times for burger connoisseurs.0 -

Blimey, when I was growing up(to a point) in the 70's there was a Wimpy in every town.

There were 2 in Woolwich in my time - the main one and a cute little one in Hare Street.ElfsborgAddick said:fenlandaddick said:Clem_Snide said:

Sorry off subject a bit, but the Wimpey in Bexleyheath opened in 1961 and is the longest running cointinuous Wimpey franchaise.
The family who ran it (seemingly forever) finally stepped away late last year. The new people have refurbished and it is up and running again apparently.
If I took my three kids for a burger back in the 90s it was my place of choice. Any mention of Macdonalds was crushed by, "Nope, we're gonna have hot food, served on a plate with a knife and fork!" Well I mean, I may have been newly widowed, but standards had to be maintained.6 -
Noticed Gulmi has started doing breakfast, when did that happen?0

The previous owners used to employ local teens as waitresses to work with the family. The new set up seems to be two people. Too clinical.Raith_C_Chattonell said:Sorry off subject a bit, but the Wimpey in Bexleyheath opened in 1961 and is the longest running cointinuous Wimpey franchaise.

I played one day in the Bull golf society day and was very surprised when they said that I had won a prize (first and last ever golf prize). I cant remember why but I must of done something right but more likelyit was their booby prize. Although I never used it too often (mainly after Sunday Mass)0

Went for a breakfast at Gulmi over the weekend and it’s honestly one of the best English breakfasts I’ve had. Disappointed there’s no nepalese/North Indian twist to it, but the quality of the ingredients was fantastic. Strongly recommend. Looks like wimpy is getting replaced by a greasy spoon cafe and there’s a new nepelase restaurant opening just off the high street.2

Ah that's sad. The landlord's daughter there in the nineties was best mates with my ex girlfriend. She was a lovely lass. Think I've had a chat with someone in here who was a regular in there about her before, but my memory is getting worse these days!Curb_It said:Another Woolwich pub almost gone. Bit of a sad sight.
Few of our regular posters known to frequent here, particularly on 17 March.

If Mick was the landlord, then would be either Justine or Sasha, I think that were their names.Leroy Ambrose said:

Justine married a lad called Danny and moved to Mayo, I think Sasha was with a heavy metal biker bloke.1 -
Was Justine. You could fall in love with her hair alone 😍guinnessaddick said:

That's an outstanding shout! Always felt a bit guilty fancying her when I was going out with her mate, tbh. Bit dirty that 😬guinnessaddick said:
