Hamilton drops down to 15th, finishes 3rd and Verstappen still gets driver of the day!

    Pissed off!
Stopped getting annoyed by driver of the day ages ago and haven’t paid much attention for a while now. It’s a popularity contest where the actual driving on display barely moves the needle.
Hamilton probably won’t ever win one because there are too many Hamilton haters out there. I don’t think he’ll lose any sleep over it.

Nothing will match that half season with Rio Haryanto on the grid and the Indonesian fan base stuffing the vote for DOTD.

Hamilton has won driver of the day the 3rd most times, behind Max and Seb.

He's won it twice already this season, at Canada and Catalunya, and won it twice last season too despite having a pretty shit season all around.

Max was imperious today, and even without the strategy balls-up from Ferrari I don't think he would have been caught

I thought Lewis' first stint on the slicks, staying out through the rain and the SC was amongst the best drives we've seen from anyone this year. Finishing on the podium after that strategy call is nothing less than magnificent.

What the hell Ferrari thought they were doing is anyone's guess. I don't like him, but if there's any truth to the Horner rumours, maybe he can sort out the mess at Maranello. Ferrari doing Ferrari things has become a meme in the last few years. If they cut out all the stupid mistakes they might be genuine challengers in both drivers and constructors.

Ferrari has done well in some aspects and to be honest have got away with their big mistake. They have developed the car well this season and a lack of power has cost them but they have shown they are capable of improving. Their big mistake was a good few races ago when they should have applied team orders and focussed on Hamilton's Championship challenge. They should have jumped all over Lerclerc trying to stop Hamilton winning it which was his attitude at that time. But having said that, we have seen since then that Ferrari had no chance whatever as the car was just not good enough. It is just at the time it couldn't be ruled out that they would make the improvements needed.

They have to be more ruthless in situations like this. That has to be a learning. Especially if their car is not the stand out best car. It isn't as if they are winning Word Championships on a regular basis. That would apply if Leclerc is in the hunt next season. I recall him pointing his car at Hamiltons on the grid when team orders should have applied, at the very least an order not to get in Hamilton's way. He is a top, fast driver but acted like a spoit brat and Ferrari let him. Also despie being a top driver, he pushes himself beyond his limits sometimes and has too many mistakes in him to ever be World Champion.

I think the criticism for Ferrari is they didn't split strategy (although I guess they didn't want one driver having a massive boost over the other). I understood the strategy call, and quite a few teams went a similar direction (13/9 in favour of Inters), as the weather was very hot, the thought was the track would dry quickly, which would have made the slicks advantageous.

The problem was the humidity meant the water wasn't evaporating as much as normal. Hamilton kept his original set and was able to drive through the field on them. I think it is very easy to criticise the team strategy, hindsight proves it was the wrong strategy, but there was logic at the time.

I was thinking Ferrari had got that call right, but I think it even suprised those on inters that it stayed wet for so long. I suspect both drivers were keen on slicks. What I think could be an issue for FIA is when you have an apparently marginal call with a wet track, some teams may gamble and then be more likely to have an accident causing further delays. It might be better if FIA just mandated everybody on inters/wets in those situations. as appropriate.

Delayed start to the Sprint. Monsoon conditions ATM.

Absolute chaos again. Hadjar out with an engine braking issue, Stroll and Perez get together and then Colapintos engine dies

To be fair F1 has been shit in recent years given the lack of DNF's due to mechanicals, so this is great

Great win from Kenzo Craigie round the outside at the Parabolica and then did really well to defend his lead in Race One at Monza today - Basically has one hand on the E4 title now.

Any idea on where Kenzo is going next season? FREC to fight Dries Van Langendonck or the unwise leap straight to F3 that didn't work for Fionn McLaughlin and I can't see Merc taking that path.

Reddit seemed to suggest he will be heading to FREC with RACE-GP when Bondarev got announced there... Given his progress in F4 this season, it wouldn't make sense him doing a second year at that level

Given how these kids race for themselves, fair bloody play to Andy Consani!! - Great job from Kenzo to win an F4 title in his first season, never should have needed that support had he not been punted in Race 2

    Believe it is FREC.

I vividly remember his first time in a cadet kart at Lydd. I was spannering him, and my son took him out to show him the lines.

Kenzo went out second session and rolled it over the tyre barrier. Battered his kart to bits.

Ended up repairing it with all kinds of bits and bobs. By the end of the day he was keeping up with kids 3 years older than him.

I wish people wouldn't post about lesser formulas, on the Formula 1 thread, I keep thinking something important happened. Cant you start a general motor racing thread?

But the junior formulae are linked to F1, as they are the future F1 drivers.
I could understand your complaint if people were posting about WEC or WRC, etc  which have little to no relevance to F1.

Speaking of junior drivers being future F1 drivers, Camara is going to be stepping into Haas next season, and it could be a look into the future pairing at Ferrari in a few years time

Or it's the straight shootout for Lewis's seat in a couple of years. Camara has excellent raw pace but I expect some early flashpoints with some of his wheel to wheel racing.
