  • We just need to see an improvement in the play. More possession more shots and a higher XG. We’re playing at home, need to act like it.

Sounds simple when you put it like that

Bristol have lost two from their past three so are not going in to the game with good form, hopefully we can capatilise on this.
If only for two hours we could be in third spot if we win.

Beat Palace 2-0 in a friendly over the international break, won their last league game and were statistically the best side in both their previous losses.

We haven’t won in 5 and have been the better side in 1 of those games if anything they’re the ones who should be capitalising on form.

  • Hopefully the extended break has refreshed us.

The previous two points out of 12 can be  easily forgotten with our next few games, which are all very winnable.

Even with 3 weeks break the refs are still as shite as ever and QPR again get a horrendous decision go their way …..

Koumetio back in for Binden. I feel Binden has really disrupted the defence and we'll see a big improvement with the Jones-Koumetio axis back in place.

Carey or Mwamba in the 10 to give us some more bite in the midfield.  Carey's not been in great form but overall we're more solid when he plays. Would love to see Chalobah back alongside Coventry but seems unlikely, so Skipp it is.

Grant on the right with Nkeng and/or Alli coming on in the second half to freshen us up.

Ramsay back on the bench and to come on to get minutes towards the end of the game.

    Charlton 2 Bristol City 1

Have zero enthusiasm for today, which is worrying after a break.

Come on Charlton, snap me out of it

With out a defense which was a bedrock for NJ, and midfielders who are technically not good enough to keep the ball, then I reckon 3-o to them.
Except we have our whole first-choice defence fit, and for their flaws, if there's one thing Coventry and Skipp are really good at it's keeping the ball? Honestly ffs
Have you seen our possession stats, that is not keeping the ball.
Our central midfield can keep the ball, but then, they either have to give it back to our defence, who pump it forward and lose it, or to our attacking players, who, unless they're Leaburn sometimes or Campbell sometimes, will run into someone and lose it
    Why?

How about giving it to the attacking players and then getting further forward to support them, receiving the ball back and passing it again. Other teams do this but not us because it’s too risky for NJ. He’s more concerned about keeping his sheets clean than scoring. His wife must get as frustrated as we do watching his boring football.

If you’re including friendly wins for them then you should include the fact we won a friendly too, even if it was against Barnet

Think this will be difficult and can see it ending in a draw. Or maybe a late Ouma winner for us

Very hard to read the runes for today.
Another shadow over proceedings is the grim up north away game at Burnley next Tuesday.

With a full contingent to choose from pretty much, I'd go

    Okonkwo
    Ramsay Jones Koumetio Mesík
    Skipp Coventry
    Grant Carey Campbell
    Kelman

Leaburn and Alli to come on after an hour to bully some tired defenders and offer a new outlet respectively, and change the attack focus slightly with Carey and Kelman making way and Grant moving to the 10.

Maybe a tad harsh on Bell but I feel like Mesík has been in better form, and Koumetio was competing with Jones for best defender when he was fit

Just parked the car by Charlton Park (a quicker journey down than normal even including a stop for brekkie at Newmarket Macca's).

Weather update: plenty of blue sky, some white fluffy clouds, about 14°C. Hopefully it'll warm up a bit but not too bad at the moment.

If only the upcoming footy could be as bright and cheerful ...

Ramsay appears to be in the squad, as the O/S have tweeted him arriving at the Valley
But then that could just be because its his Birthday

With a long distance midweek game on Tuesday, it will be interesting if team selection takes that into account. With Burnley struggling, that's not a "free hit" game but a realistic chance to get some points, ditto Watford next Saturday.

I'm sure there's a logical reason to do with the complications of the fixture calendar, but it feels crazy to have the only midweek game this month straight after the international break, when most Championship clubs will have had several of their best players away.

Jones’ dream.  2 big lads up top , 2 holding players and 3 defenders on the bench.

It's feels like the start of the season:

The only times we really look fluid this season,  Nathaniel Chalobah is in the team with his class on the ball and because he can scan the field everyone else looked decent and our link play is on a higher level.

No idea of the score today because even though NJ and coaches have had 3 weeks of training at Sparrows lane with the squad who aren't internationals when we have had a full week without a midweek match CAFC results haven't necessarily been any better than when we have 3 matches in a week ! Plus City have had 3 weeks to prepare as well.

I take with a pinch of salt Nathan's words on injuries after he said Billy Koumetio only came off at Spurs as a precaution; that was 7 weeks ago !

    I would take 1-1 today or any scoring draw just for entertainment value. A win would be brilliant but teams in the Championship do their homework and know our weaknesses;
You really don't have to half stand behind a tree at Sparrows lane to see that when Chalobah isn't fit to play.

Bristol city are very good from set pieces, I wonder if the 2 big lads are to defend the box as much as they are an attacking threat

Certainly a factor, especially with two diminutive full backs for us

Are we playing a 4-2-2-2? Bold if so!
