I’ve always thought it a bit puerile but each to their own. However, I’ve always found the Adams family song really cringe and I’d rather that was stopped than the one suggested.
I'm all here for the Adams family one when we play Norwich or Palace but outside of that it's naff

It’s not particularly a forest or south London “ditty” is it? Virtually every club in the country sings their version.
Watford's version: "Oh, South-East Herts...".  Nah, doesn't have the the cachet the Charlton version does.

We don’t just sing it, we had a flag made with it on. Blanked out a couple of letters in case anyone finds the words t*ts and f*nny offensive 😁

The thing I never understood about the song, is that Bermondsey is surely also in South London?
"Ooooh the very specific part of the South London that Charlton are in............is wonderful!"

Was it the Voice that had an article explaining how someone had convinced their kid that the offending line was actually "It's full of chips, grannies and Charlton"?  Although given the portions at the Valley, I'm not sure we could justify the first of those either.

The second biggest problem with it, is that we're not a south London club, we're a south east London club

  • The general sentiment seems to be the song doesn't cover itself in glory, and it should have gone earlier.

Say this every fucking time people sing it. Would be up for scrapping the first bit just to be rid of this!

Actually, it does. I just counted the negative and positive reactions, leaving out most of the ones that don't commit either way (like my own), there are roughly double the number of nos to yes's.

Leaving out Rodney’s middle name (the only Charlton connection I’ve ever heard on OFaH), Peckham is a Millwall area with us being the closest league club to it. So there.

“General sentiment” is defined as “an overall collective feeling”. This thread, and the stats, don’t seem to me to meet that threshold, particularly if those that don’t commit either way (the majority?) are clearly not fussed one way or the other.

Personally, the only thing that bothers me about it is that it’s another generic song that doesn’t differentiate us in any way, unlike Goodbye Horse and, to an extent, Valley Floyd Road. I’d really like to see Yippee I A (sp.) make a decent comeback. No one else used it like us at the time and it would be unique now.
