CAFC on the wall, it’s magic, graffiti on the wall.3 -
I’ll write an article about the two sides of the debate, along with my own opinion, on my Substack (How Rude) It’s not about Charlton, as it’s sung in many grounds, but I wanted to see if views had evolved any since the last time it was discussed on here. They haven’t.EugenesAxe said:

South East, South West it's all South London to me except Croydon which is Surrey anyway!
I've never sung that song.0 -
Lived in Peckham for many a year and I’d say, based on my totally non-scientific survey, for local teams it’s:EugenesAxe said:

1. Palace
2. Millwall
3. Charlton (there are actually a few Charlton fans here)
Although in reality Arsenal are probably the most widely supported team.1 -
Oh, and as to the song, it’s not my cup of tea and I don’t sing it.2

I used to live around the corner from Roots Hall and went to quite a few Southend games. They had a song (ttto She'll be Coming Round the Mountain): "We'll be running round Benfleet, running round Benfleet, running round Benfleet with our willies hanging out, singing I've got a bigger one than you (no, you ain't)... and so on. I often wondered whether this song was based on a particular incident.timken said:I remember an interview with Allison Moyet (an avid southend fan and lesbian).she said it was her favorite chant.(obviously with south london changed to south essex or whatever0 -
I cringe when I hear it but I also cringe when I hear the "family friendly" versions sung by the likes of Palace and Dulwich Hamlet. Just get rid of the whole thing0

My bestie and I always stopped when the ‘tits, fanny’ bit was sung because everyone just presumed we’re a couple and we didn’t want to add to that nonsense 🙄
All women who go to football clearly are, I must tell Alison, she’ll be thrilled! 😂😂2 -
Of fans who actually go? New Cross is full of Arsenal as well. Very few of them actually go.se9addick said:

I’ve never lived in Peckham but have family who do, done lots of drinking and socialising around there, lived very close to Peckham for a while and don’t ever recall ever meeting a palace fan from there. I do find you get a few more of them out towards Dulwich and then of course Streatham, Sydenham, Penge and the like there’s loads.1 -

There are loads of Arsenal 'fans' south of the river in general - most of them barely know anything about the club they jumped on the populist bandwagon to 'support', let alone go to watch them. There are plenty of Chelsea 'fans' who slot into that category too. The type of person that hasn't heard of anyone in the bottom half of the Premier League let alone the Football League.
I don't count then in any demographic.5 -
Spot on. Neither do I.Bod said:There are loads of Arsenal 'fans' south of the river in general - most of them barely know anything about the club they jumped on the populist bandwagon to 'support', let alone go to watch them. There does seem to be a bit of a drop in volume at that line, so I think a fair few people just skip it or go " na na na na nana and Charlton". Personally I wish we could agree on a change to the line so that the whole crowd could sing it full throated, but I can't see it happening .KBslittlesis said:My bestie and I always stopped when the ‘tits, fanny’ bit was sung because everyone just presumed we’re a couple and we didn’t want to add to that nonsense 🙄

Trains, morleys and charlton!Dont understand why we sing ‘watford is a £h!t hole i want to go home’ - it was actually a bit nicer than charlton tbf.
😂
cant we be more humorous with it!2 -
Don’t mind it, personally I prefer all the older songs we sang, much better than modern chants, admittedly a lot were to do with violence & a bit of racism, which is obviously not acceptable but I find modern day chants a bit naff😁2

Last Valley visit 2017.
3 songs stayed in my memory.
1) "We love you Taylor you are the love of our lives..."
2) "The Adams family"
3) "Valley Floyd Road"
1) shocking but bouncing
2) filthy but swinging...
3) forgivable but Naffffff0 -
Sorry but for a moment there I thought you said VFR was naff....LennyLowrent said:Last Valley visit 2017.

I don't sing it. It's offensive. I go to matches with my daughter.
I've heartily joined in with Valley Floyd Road at times to drown it out.
Agree with @golfaddick on the Addams Family one as well.

My ST is in the West Stand so naturally I don't sing any chants. I do clap VFR though before anyone moans!1

That doesn't scan. I like @2121's suggestion of Morley's though.MillwallFan said:

Or flasks, blankets and Charlton (but feel it needs a train reference in there somewhere)0 -
Trains, Morley’s and Charlton is a winner for me. 2 fine South London institutions plus a shoutout to trains - what’s not to love?3
-
Trains, buses and Charlton.
apparently you can spot both.0 -
Honestly I thought the words were Here for the Valliant Charlton. Then I have heard the other variations (sent my cousin other versions done by non league supporters) and I understand what they mean
As for the second verse I remember us being on away days and us singing about the place we were going to (think we still do that for Over Land and Sea) and now I find we only just sing that about Bermondsey (which is probably offensive if your a Bermondsey Addick)0 -
