MATCH PREVIEW: Charlton Athletic vs. Norwich City - Saturday 24th October 2026 - 12:30pm Kick-Off
With the forum clearly desperate for a preview and @ForeverAddickted possibly busy elsewhere I thought I’d start a thread, it won’t be as good as FA’s of course.
Norwich come into this one in poor form having lost their last 5 in the league and sitting 21st. The fans anger isn’t directed at manager Phillippe Clement but towards director of football Ben Knapper. He has built a young squad who are seemingly lacking leadership. Captain Kenny McLean usually provides that leadership but has been injured, he is due to be available for tomorrows fixture.
Charlton’s form has also been poor, not that any of you need to be reminded of that. Nathan Jones has hinted that he might ring the changes and a change of formation might be on the cards to facilitate it. He will be boosted by the return to training of Nathaniel Chalobah and Matty Godden although it might be too soon for them to start. Solly March is expected to sign a short term deal but nothing has been confirmed yet.
Okonkwo, Ramsay, Jones, Koumetio, Bell, Coventry, Mwamba, Alli, Carey, Campbell, Kelman
Subs: Mannion, Mesík, McNamara, Rankin-Costello, Skipp, Knibbs, Grant, Leaburn, Godden

- Charlton Athletic have lost each of their last three home league games against Norwich City, this after winning each of their prior five in succession between December 1997 and May 2009.
- Norwich City have won their last three league games against Charlton Athletic; they’ve never won four in succession in this fixture before.
- Charlton are winless in their last eight league games (D4 L3), though at home they’re unbeaten in their previous six outings (W3 D3).
- Norwich have lost 10 of their last 12 league games (W2) including each of their previous five matches; last losing six in a row in November 2025.
- In the Championship this season, only five different Charlton players have found the back of the net; it’s the joint-fewest individual scorers of any side in the competition alongside Derby County (ex. own goals).

Score draw probably 1-1.1

Both teams will be looking at this as the one to end a slump.Need to win this one or at the least not lose4

Not sure what's happened at Norwich. I'd thought they'd be a promotion contender this year after their form in the second-half of last season. We need to win this. Don't think we will. I hope, as we all do, for an end to the Skipp-Coventry combination. I'd also like to see Grant shifted out of the 'ten' role. Either out wide, or to the bench.6

I know most of you buggers will look to the games with the Spanners but for hundreds of us Addicks living among the North Folk this is the big one. A bad result tomorrow will mean at least a couple of months of torment with neighbours, work colleagues etc.
This is the Pessimists Derby.
We all know our recent form has been awful and that's compounded by our record over the years against teams on horrific losing/winless streaks so we're all expecting the worst tomorrow. My Canary-supporting friends and work colleagues are equally ropeable and think one more bad result will spell the end of the manager (after what happened when they replaced the main man last season and just missed out on the play-offs they're hoping that a slightly earlier bullet combined with play-offs stretching down to eighth would be a good move for them).
Prediction: a dire game of "football" between two bloody awful teams, everybody's mood dampened by the lousy weather that's being forecast. A 1-1 draw at best doesn't make anyone happy but equally doesn't tip anyone over the edge.6 -
You must be Skipp's biggest fan. You have named him in the starting XI and on the bench.fenaddick said:With the forum clearly desperate for a preview and @ForeverAddickted possibly busy elsewhere I thought I’d start a thread, it won’t be as good as FA’s of course.

With high winds and heavy rain, this could be one ugly match, with more mistakes than usual by two out-of-form teams.
I'll be optimistic and predict this one is settled in a moment of last-minute, windswept, chaos in front of the Covered End - the ball is bundled in for a Charlton winner and the place goes absolutely nuts.

surely we won't see the Cov-Skipp pivot.....Skipp to miss out.
Ugly game in high winds and rain
1-1 and the natives get more restless0 -
Like last season Norwich will kick on after a poor start to the season.....1-2 Norwich.....don't rate us at all this season......4
-
If high winds are reported, probably for the best if Skipp's comb over is given a rest.22

The problem is who you put there instead. I’d go with Costello but every option we have isn’t really ideal other than Chalobah and I doubt he will be ready to startElthamaddick said:surely we won't see the Cov-Skipp pivot.....Skipp to miss out.

Weather is going to be the winner awful day predicted … which makes the game a mockery and the team who makes less mistakes will win .. …… still remember comments from NJ that he needs to use the squad and players he been to loyal to changes will be made … with that in mind the team for tomorrow .. 4132 attacking formation … in goal one more chance for AO he needs to show us what a good keeper he is back 4 Ramsey Jones Billy Mesik .. the one defensive mid Skipp the three in front Knibbs Carey Ali front two Kelman and Godden … there a brave team one that would win .. can we see NJ keeping his word no not really Campbell will still play … …. Having said all that Norwich was the best team seen at the valley last season they out played us ….. not sure about them now but they are a dangerous team ..we have 4 games 3 at home if we can get 7 points we hit the 20 mark after 15 games ……tomorrow 2-1 to Charlton

As a superstitious bastard I have a bit of a dilemma. I was off site for a bit at the start of the season, and since I've been back doing updates on the match thread, we've not won a game. Should I sit on my hands tomorrow ?2

No! Your updates were missed, they took the pressure off me!aliwibble said:As a superstitious bastard I have a bit of a dilemma. Prepared for another gulf in class. Norwich fans likely to be the next set of fans to wonder what all the fuss was about, as they see their team score 4 on the road. Postponement would be the best we could hope for.1
