Is it a season long kit, or a special centenary match kit?

TBH though fans won't mind if they start to win, because of its historical links. If they don't sytart winning then pards will have more than the kit to worry about

It's their home strip for this season.

[cite]Posted By: seth plum[/cite]I saw the kit on the telly last night, surely the Saints fans are feeling it's a kind of betrayal? Southampton are Red and White stripes, known everywhere, just need to be distinguished fron Sunderland, i would be a bit annoyed if it was me.

With it being our 125th anniversary, the club decided to go back to a similar kit that we first wore back in 1885. I like it, but want red and white stripes back next season.

OK, point taken it is a retro kit...it doesn't signal Southampton to me but I suppose we'll get used to it, as you're going back to your formation couldn't you be known as Southampton St Marys for a season?

No Sponser on shirt......is that due to not being able to get sponsership or just because it's a centenary kit? Don't think it looks too bad myself, bit like the old peru 78 kit.

I think it's pretty nice, much nicer than their usual borefest of a jersey.

[cite]Posted By: Clem_Snide[/cite]Was Les Reid sitting in the directors box with the chief exec?

Looked at Saints starting line-up today and wasnt overly impressed.

Slow start and the white toothed adonis will be gone.

Les Reed was in the directors Box, he is the Head of their Academy. Any chance they could do a Charlton in reverse and sack Pardew put Les in charrge then put Dowie in!

“next season’s full kit will revert back to where it all began in 1885. A sponsor-less white shirt with a diagonal red stripe running across it, is complimented by white shorts and black socks.”

Even better than that, The Sun have responded to Southampton's little games brilliantly!

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/football-league-blog/2010/aug/09/leagueonefootball-southampton

"The Sun has come up with a novel response to Southampton's attitude to photographers

As you may have heard, suits at Southampton recently chose to deny photographers press accreditation for the new season, and said that all newspapers and agencies would have to negotiate for images of home games from one outlet, The Digital South. Well, the Sun came up with this brilliant response to Saints' little scheme:

Today we are printing the most one-sided match report in the history of The Sun.

While applauding Plymouth's amazing victory we are deliberately ignoring one of the hottest title favourites in history.

All this is down to Southampton's draconian executive chairman Nicola Cortese. His totally crazy decision to ban national and local newspaper photographers from the game will hurt his club more than he thinks.

This senseless move will not make him extra money but it will turn the fans and, more importantly, sponsors away from the club."

And in today's Sun the fixtures for the Carling Cup first round apparently listed 'South Coast Club Vs AFC Bournemouth'

Yeah, he looked decent against Plymouth but it was his first game since Southend last season so he couldn't start.

I don't see how it will turn the fans away from the club. They can see pictures from our website and videos on the BBC/Sky Sports websites.

Although, younger fans will find it hard to believe, not all people use the internet.

Slight deviation, sorry, but not worth its own thread, - Leeds have banned the Guardian and Observer from its press gantry as the Guardian has been trying to discover who the funding sorces behind Leeds are.

Even listed as 'South Coast Team' in the pools section!

    .............

    It will cost them publicity.

I'd like to see them try this on next season or when they next get a shirt sponsor. I think you'll find that they'll want the sponsors to get every bit of publicity going and they'll quickly drop this policy.

It's also a bit of an insult to local newspapers who presumably are running two/three pages of news on the club on match days and after games, plus on-going news etc. To force the local rag to pay for photos is hardly fair for the acres of free coverage that they'll give the Saints.

Our local newspaper don't get along with the club, they were banned at one point from talking to anyone who is involved with S.F.C because they released some info early, despite signing a contract.

    What move have I defended?

If he had banned them altogether from coming to games, that would be wrong - He hasn't. The Sun/NOTW etc usually do a small write up for their reports on League One games that include no pictures so I don't see why they're making a big deal out of this.

Which take us back to NLA's original point ;-)

Ps, try clicking the BBCode button before trying to quote someone, that way it will work !
  • because saints the the fact that you club is trying to charge a national newspaper to use their own pictures that they have taken is wrong yet you dont seem to think so..

you are a small club like ourselves and you need to act like 1..

banning your local rag because they released a story to early is just ridiculous aswell becuse they ultimatly will turn against your club..

yet you fail to see wrong in either things therfore showing blind loyalty..

if it was charlton i would not just follow the clubs line on it i would think it to be a stoopid greedy motivated concept and one i would not be happy that we were doing

When The Premier League starts again the national newspapers will be back to doing their small match reports for League One matches which have no pictures of the game.

It won't drive fans away like the Sun say.
