Don't really want to piddle on the parade but what makes everyone think Chris Powell is the manager we need? Yes a total legend as a player but as a manager it's a massive gamble. We're only 6 points off an automatic promotion place but we're also only 11 points away from a relegation place. If it didn't go well!...

If he gets the job there will be thousands of collective air punches and cheers when the news is announced. That is what this club needs and is why he is the best candidate for the job.

Any new manager is a gamble ... and all managers start somewhere ... does not seem to be that much else out there better than Parky that we can afford ... he is extremely highly respected in the game by managers and players alike ... and the boost to the feel-good factor at the Valley would be a giant plus.

I feel confident he will be a good manager ... so let's take him before anyone else does!

a view from a Leicester fan
I saw on the messageboards that he's being strongly linked, and his odds have come in massively over the last couple of days.

I'll be sad to see him go, there's been a few overreactions on said messageboards of people being devestated, which is a bit silly given that he's a coach. It does show how well liked he is though.

Seems to be a good coach, and has now had a few years experience under Pearson, Sousa (i.e. learning what not to do) and Sven, so he probably feels it's time to try out the top job. I don't blame him and I wish him the best of luck, I think he'll be a good appointment for you Nod

COZY POWELL BASKS IN WARMTH OF CHARLTON HOMECOMING
  • [cite]Posted By: nth london addick[/cite]Powell abbott they are on about

all adds up now. Abbott is going on loan to Bristol , cos otherwise the kit man and the laundary staff are going to get very confused, and given their repsective sizes, the two Powells would look a bit silly in each other's togs...

    Winner
  • If Chris does get this!..... and I really hope he does, then the nightmare of the last few years can have a line drawn under it, and we can once again progress to getting out of this dreadful league and playing football with passion and pride. I am not expecting miracles , but this would come pretty close for me as an ideal candidate for the job!.

At least one thing he has the support of the fan's, he may well need it!, that and a good transfer budget!

Don't think we can claim we initiated this - it was whoever put £100 (or so) on him at 33/1 bar which must have spooked the bookies...own up, who was it????

My gut reaction is to go against what you are all saying. He has no experience as a manager and it is a lot different to being an assistant or coach. However all of the points made have swayed me to back this and not to be so negative. The biggest thing he has in his favour is that he would unify the fans - any other choice it seems to me is going to get a lot of flak regardless of how well they do.
