Fantastic opportunity for him. Hope he breaks through.

I bloody hate an undisclosed fee though. Presumably it's be a small fee up front with large incentives for appearances etc, but who knows.

I predict a sell-on clause discussion in a couple of years time.

doubt he will be anywhere near the bench, league cup at best for him, unlike jonjo who has played first team for liverpool, had a couple of ok games but never saw a major team comming in for him, the new rule on home grown players and u21 palyers could really hit teams outside of the prem as the prem managers need to have x amount of youngsters and players trainned in this country, anyone with a hint of talent will be snapped up to make the numbers up without a chance of playing regualr football for there parent team.

Well, it will look good on Jenko's CV ...... Charlton and Arsenal, proper pedigree.

the way the OS have worded things i wouldn't rule out the possibility of a loan back so if it happens we would have pocketed a transfer fee and the benefit of his services. Ok, so we could lose out on a bigger fee later on but we have to spread the resources we have around the team in the short term so this doesn't look all bad to me.

They need to make changes to the loan system to stop bigger clubs buying and then stockpiling the best young players.

Which means it almost certainly is worth less than that.

Good news we got some money like Shelvey last season. Shame we weren't in a higher league to take advantage of using Shelvey and Jenkinson

Can understand the Shelvey situation. A good player with something about him who played enough to show us what he had about him.

But Jenkinson has played in our worst team in donkeys years, in possibly the worst league 1 in donkeys years and he didn't even play that often, yet we are supposedly gaining 2million?

Thank you very much Woolwich rejects.

  • I see it is already being used as another stick to beat Wenger with. Not that I rate anything that he's done since failing to refresh the "Invincibles" but hammering him for spending what to Arsenal is the price of a decent POTY do on a young hopeful is a bit rich.

PL rivals spending big on Henderson, Jones, Sánchez etc and all Wenger's doing is looking at Carl Jenkinson from little Charlton... failing to get a grip on reality that the others are signing on first team squad expectation and figures and Jenkinson is more of an academy signing.

Feel a bit sorry for Carl if that's what he's walking into, a mould, when today should be the best day of his life.

Even if he doesn't establish himself there, it'll always be on his CV that he was an Arsenal player.

Good luck to the lad, Arsenal supporting family ....... a dream come true for him.

When this news first broke I was pretty angry, but I think I've come to accept it now. He's a good prospect and my real fear was that Charlton would get shafted. It looks like we've made a pretty good deal with Arsenal. I'd say anything north of £1m upfront plus the usual add ons is fair, can anyone say he's really worth more ? Sounds like a good move for us, and I'd imagine at his age rather than getting first team experience in what is generally called a "pub" league by most of the esteemed Charlton Life scribes he is in a place where he will be training day in day out against some of the best players in England.

Hope it works out well for him.

Can the next youngster please step forward, make a few 1st team appearances and then get sold for £1m+.

I hope its some money up front, but suspect Arsenal are no mugs and have done it on number of appearances / Carl lifting the World Cup for Finland, would love to think we had a 2 million transfer kitty , but realistically its not going to happen.

I thought his parting words, if he wrote them were very endearing and he has handled himself at a young age very well and again its a positive credit to the CAFC academy. It also helps the marketability of other academy boys in the future and will attract other youngsters to bring the next players forward. Hopefully we can keep a few before having to sell on once we move back up the League

Good luck to him, hope he does well. Can't blame him for leaving us, especially while we're in this position. Even more so when it's the club he supports.

If he had rejected them and left it a few years the chance would have probably gone. They'll want him in while he's fairly young so they can get him Arsenalised to play their way.

Even if the SLP's figures are a bit high it still looks like we've got decent money for him.

To be honest - Jenkinson is one for the future- not the present. I would rather loan him in a couple of years than next season.
