  • It still amazes me that with all the money companies spend on getting their brands right in the opinion of the person charging them a fortune to revamp them every now and again how so many of them don’t, imo, seem to consider how that brand comes across when they put it on a football shirt. To me, a lot of sponsors names or logos plonked on a football shirt just make the company look cheap or tacky. Some work, some just don’t.

There we go an official date, revealed on the 2nd July, worn against Dartford on the 3rd

Another appointment in this link, Hannah Darnborough new Head of Retail & Licencing coming from Formula E but previously spent time at Leeds. On Formula E, been a bit of a flop since the initial buzz around a new category in racing, some of these appointments not exactly filling me with confidence but she does at least have a football & wider sports background, not much you can do if the product is crap

Not sure Formula E is a flop. The initial hype has obviously gone (it's had 11 seasons now, so a mature product), but it's year on year growth figures are still impressive

Probably should have done some homework before speculating, that is indeed impressive given the driver stock & product imo

I watch the odd race. My biggest issue is that cars are quite small, so you'd think there would be loads of room to overtake, but then they make the circuits ridiculously narrow. I get that their plan of having temporary street circuits in iconic locations has worked (plus makes direct speed comparisons with other formulas difficult as they don't race on the tracks), but it often means they are space constrained and therefore lose out on what should have been one of the major benefits of the compact car size.

I have seen plenty of Formula E commercial decks and they massively bullshit their broadcast numbers and subsequent commercial asks. Its all a load of guff.

It is a great B2B mechanism and proof point for a tech and sustainability narrative but the reality as a consumer / fan focussed format is that it is seriously lacking.

My biggest problem with it is the TV rights deal has been terrible for years. The racing is good when you can actually find it. Currently it's hidden away on ITVX and the promotional side of the series is absolutely terrible.

Will be interesting to see if the new cars coming for Generation 4 later this year changes anything , they're having to ditch Excel anyway.

The wording on the RSK deal was slightly ambiguous.  No idea if it will be them this year or not but I assume we'll find out in a few weeks

Having said that - if we got a new one it couldn't be any worse than Spud Bros which was a particular favourite of mine last season  :D
I don't know where I heard/read this but I thought RSK where happy to be shirt sponsor but also happy to stand aside if another party with deeper pockets became available. Pure speculation but I wonder if a sponsor change is in the offing and hence the delay in new shirts being released. (Gavin did say that there would be some announcements in the coming weeks - or did I make that up as well?)

Realistically, how busy is the club shop during the off-season? I’ll still pop in, but I live just down the road in Woolwich. The majority of the fanbase isn't that local, matchdays are really the only time they’ll ever get there. Outside of kit launches, I’d imagine summer traffic is pretty minimal—probably only a handful of visitors in an average week.

Whilst I was over in March I had time to kill as I had to collect my passport on the same day service they offer, this gave me four hours to kill.
