How so? How can we say that unless Mannion is given a go? There’s so many aspects to measure the two on and Kaminski probably wins on shot stopping but the rest is up for grabs!se9addick said:I’m not saying that Saturday was a vintage performance by any means, but he’s still a significantly better ‘keeper than Mannion.2 -
Baffles me how any keeper has played so many games at such a high standard without being able to come off his line and claim high crosses.
I would think that it's a basic prerequisite for a top keeper.
It relieves a huge amount of pressure on any defence.
Failing that a good strong puncher of high balls.
He is neither. But in fairness he has kept us in games with his shot stopping.
Again, poor scouting, as these deficiencies were well known before we signed him.4 -
I don't think there's actually that many signings we'd paid a fee for under Jones but for me he wouldn't even make the top 5 worst signings.Braziliance said:He's genuinely bad in goal. The only reason he doesn't get pelters is because of his background of playing in the prem and being a championship regular. I feel people are desperately clinging on to something to justify the wasted wages. If we had picked him up from let's say a League 1 or 2 side, and he didn't come with a reputation of being a decent 'shot stopper', then I reckon people would have given up on him a while ago.
Imho, one of the worst signings we have made pound for pound in ages, right up there. When you consider the alleged (I've heard very true) wages, that he cost a fee, and hasn't won us many points.
Mannion deserves a chance, a bloke who isn't terrified to leave his line and using the same justification as to why Nathan Jones shouldn't be sacked as he got us promoted, we wouldn't be in this league if it wasn't for Mannion's Wembley performance.1 -
Good summary. For me, I just don’t think he instills that confidence across the back line. I think that a large part of the keepers game should be helping his defenders mobilise and adapt to the game as it unfolds. I never see him talking to or arranging his back line. He’s definitely made some important saves that have kept us in games, but a lot of errors that have cost us. He’s not commanding enough and I think we have definitely suffered this season because of itqueensland_addick said:Baffles me how any keeper has played so many games at such a high standard without being able to come off his line and claim high crosses.

I don't know what it is about Kaminski, but I get Macgillivray vibes from him.Braziliance said:He's genuinely bad in goal. Great shot stopper and distributor but utterly abysmal at aerial commandment. One of the worst I can remember at Charlton in that respect and it is very detrimental to the side.
If he had good aerial commandment he'd be complete package but it's something severely lacking in his performance / ability and not sure if it's something he even has ability to address sufficiently.1 -

And that ain't good.Yeah it’s hard to describe, it’s like he’s not sharp, doesn’t have a strong desire to compete or not on his toes or aggressive or something… but there’s a passive sort of “slowness” to him when he comes for the ball or dives.I try to check my biases and be objective, but often when people talk up an amazing save of his it’s straight at him or easily in reach. Hard to think of any full stretch saves where it’s genuinely not his right to win it.. there probably are some0 -
Hard to disagree with this. To put it mildly, he is another one who has to improve considerably over these last 18 games. Red flags were there for me as soon as the opening day when we were extremely lucky not to concede a pen, and Millwall’s equaliser in the home game frustrates the hell out of me - the signature move of pushing it back out into danger, then slow to get up and save the rebound they scored from. Portsmouth’s second goal should also have been saved - and was a complete hammer blow.Braziliance said:He's genuinely bad in goal. A lot to improve on. I hope he earns us lots of points to help us stay up, but Saturday will take a lot of coming back from1 -

Absolutely shit himself on Saturday. Could see from the away end he was completely rattled first half, arguing with himself while picking up his water bottle.
He instills zero confidence in our defence and whether he's an improvement on Mannion or not, he's certainly not a big enough improvement to warrant £20k p/w salary5 -
He's obviously not actually a bad goalkeeper, of course he isn't, but I think he's not necessarily all that well suited to a team that sits deep, defends the box and tries to force teams to cross it in. Mannion isn't the best shot stopper, especially from anything starting to approach range, but he's good at dominating the space and that suits us when we're compact and asking teams to cross the ball in as we do when we're at our best. Mostly we expect to be able to head the ball away and if not you do want your keeper to claim but Kaminski is more from the school of punching the ball to be safe. That's not popular in English football as it is and we play a pretty old school style. Ultimately I think his form is often reflective of how organised our defence is; when we're settled and organised he's there to stop any shots that break through while we stop crosses, head the ball away of block the second ball, but when we're nervy and aren't properly looking after the box his weaknesses are more pronounced. A game like Sheff Utd before the red cards showed his worth, they were slipping balls in behind the defence and testing his shot stopping which is why we were still in the game when the red cards came, whereas if they'd been pumping balls into the box or across the face of goal we'd probably have gone behind.1

Said the same thing a few pages backs. He's a better shot stopper but the rest of his game is similar.CaptainRobbo said:

Almost unbelievable that we are debating whether he is our number 1.
Saved so many goals from one on one situations this season. Great shot stopper and improved with claiming crosses as well now16 -
It’s ridiculous. Head and shoulders the best goalkeeper at the club.DamoNorthStand said:Almost unbelievable that we are debating whether he is our number 1.

Definitely earned his wages after that.1 -
Got us a point tonight no idea why he's taking free kicks and standing on the halfway line though was lucky we didn't get broke on bar a tackle, let a defender take it and stay back ffs but our best keeper regardless for that save and being safe hands.1
-
For the first time this season, he actually came off his line on a number of occasions and took some crosses.
Would love to know if someone has had a word with him.

Both keepers were excellent tonight.8

For those of you who still persist in slagging him off, he has kept no fewer than 10 clean sheets so far this season……more than any other keeper in The Championship……that speaks for itself, you might like to reflect on that for a moment or two.18
-
Kaminski frightens me BUT he did control the box a few times tonight so fair play2
-
Don’t think it’s quite “unbelievable” as there are probably as many times he’s cost us goals as much as he’s saved them. But the positive for me is that he looked far and away better than he has done in other areas such as claiming crosses, being positive in coming off his line instead of retreating backwards and distribution etc.DamoNorthStand said:Almost unbelievable that we are debating whether he is our number 1.

Agree. He commanded his box and calmly too.
Hopeful that it's not just a Friday night feeling!

Would be interesting to see that stat. Personally I think his saves this season far outweighs him directly costing us a goal.7 -
Its an impossible stat though 'Goals he prevented that another keeper would have let in' v 'goals scored that another keeper would have prevented'
He has made some blinding saves, made some saves look blinding by being in the wrong place to start with, and been responsible for some goals mostly through not catching the ball or coming off his line and claiming the ball.
His distribution has been sometimes good but mostly poor.Overall he's slightly in deficit for me and i would be happy seeing Mannion in goal.3 -
Feel like Mannion is a tad overrated on here. Wasn't even supposed to be our #1 last season but the club didn't get their man. He did a decent enough job but don't personally believe he will ever play regularly at this level.
Kaminski is -3.04 for Goals Prevented, which is in the lowest 20% of goalkeepers in the league. So, statistically, he has cost us more than he has saved. Although he had a good game yesterday, it's fair to say his season has been mixed.2 -
Dominated his area far more last night and made a great save at the end. A decent enough keeper.2
-
Excellent brave save at the end.1
-
Probably overlooked, a routine but accurate kick, bang on the money for Dykes for our goal. Now we have wingbacks, he does seem to be commanding his area better. He's looked like the goalie I expected us to get of late.7
