TC is also perfectly capable of taking on and beating players. It is stifling both him and us to give him lots of defensive duties as LWB.

Back on topic, agree JRC deserves to keep his place.
The team selection at Norwich stifled us with two defensive wing backs in Bree and Bell (as good as Bell is bringing the ball out of defence, there’s a reason he’s not been a winger in years).

Bree has basically replaced Small, and his first instinct when receiving the ball, is simply to pass it back to where it came from.
It's too easy to blame the forward line for not scoring enough goals, but we are not working the ball through to them, or giving them anything to run on to.
JRC was trying to do exactly that, and he succeeded a few times.
Elements of his play reminded me of Kishishev, and such a player is just what we need.
If he can put in a performance like that, haven't not started in months, that bodes well for the future, if Jones gives him a fair go.
  • Thought that he was excellent on Monday night. With a bit more composure he could have scored. Twice he burst into the box but just didn't get his shot away quickly enough and his shots were closed down.
A midfield of him, Cov and Carey could be our way forward unless we bring someone new in. I like Berry but I don't think he offers enough to be a starter.

A noticeable factor under Nathan Jones management, has been that players generally seem reluctant to take risks, express themselves with the ball, by demonstrating flair or skill, or even taking on more than one opponent at a time.

Keeping it tight, playing it safe, adhering to the system, seems to be the order of the day.

Alfie May liked to roam a bit, in search of the ball, wasn't predictable in terms of playing to the system, and he was quickly shown the door.

Apter likewise, appears to be a bit of a free spirit, and has been frozen out for long periods.

JRC is the first player I have seen under Jones, other than perhaps Thierry Small, to take on and beat 3 defenders (at Birmingham).

He obviously has that in his locker which isn't surprising for a player that started out in the Man United academy.

I do wonder if the reason he has been frozen out for so long, is because Jones feels like he can't trust him to adhere to the system.

somebody who can do something outside of the system when the system is patently failing is exactly what we need (I would like to see more of Fullah)
It is Jones' way or the highway, twas ever and will ever be thus.  Its not like most players, with direct connection to the game, would not know this before they sign (and I am sure Nathan tells them that prior to signing).  I like JRC at Pompey and hope he is given more game time.  The amount of times that Campbell could have taken a man on and did not was telling.  It is not playing to his strengths.

Why does a let’s support TC post always arrive on every thread? Have we not covered this enough, some think he’s good, others don’t.
So back on topic, thought JRC has looked a different player in his last couple of appearances which is puzzling to say the least, as before that I just didn’t get him and thought he was terrible. Fair play to him and hope a few others in the squad take note in how not to give up.
  • JRC definitely needs to feature more. He was the only positive in another rank affair vs Pompey.

He was fine last night, but all this talk of him changing our season and "he looks a proper Championship footballer" are way wide of the mark, Portsmouth were absolutely shit and there for the taking, that made him look better than he actually is.
"Could be the player to change our season" 😂

If you thought Pompey was rank I dread to think what you made of Norwich!

    I love the black boots.
  • A great crime he’s been sat on the bench for half the season. Dominated a midfield of a team top of the league.

    It's like a power-boosted Dobson/Fraser ;)

Excellent attacking and defending today and used the ball well. On a tiny sample set of two performances, he looks a much better fit than Anderson or Docherty.

Thinks he’s an academy lad, clearly NJ does too. Only explanation for the lack of minutes 😉

This may go down in the history books if he carries on performing like that

Feels like sometimes Jones gets dragged into making these choices and then almost by accident discovers how good a player he has.

Only concern is his fitness but that will improve with game time

When JRC played against Cambridge in the cup he looked like a competition winner. Not sure if that game hindered his chances of getting in the side sooner but he’s clearly got the ability to be a difference maker for us

In Jones we trust. Obviously needed some coaching to fit into the system. But he glides past players but with no real pace, great close ball control and has the time to look up.
Then the desire to sprint to the goal and be there for Kelmans deflection.

The most telling thing was Kelman went far post, that's because he looked twice before the shot, he knew Joe was coming in for a rebound and the far post was the best chance of a goal.

    Great goal

Anyone still not seeing he has more about him at this level than Doc and Anderson?

Would love to know why we haven’t seen more of him. The Cambridge cup game? Not settling down south? Too much faith in Doc?

The extra ability he offers on the ball compared to those two makes a difference to our attacking play, and I’m not seeing us lose anything defensively.

Probably due to fact he hasn’t played for Luton
