He probably won’t even make the bench next game knowing Jones.
I was just coming on here to praise JRC but

Wait a sec - on the match thread you were calling Jones stubborn for not changing it up.

    So which is it?

A midfielder who can tackle pass forward and score. Great timing for us him playing like that.

Exiled early on but then explodes on the scene.

I seriously judge NJ for seeing JRC, Anderson and Docherty in training every day and not giving JRC a game for the first half of the season. The guy's mustard, a level above the other 2 in every aspect of the game, and NJ has almost stumbled upon giving him a game.

I think Jones may not like playing him with Carey as they both get forward, and Carey was on great form.

JRC has played a lot at right back as well hasn't he? That would be a way to get them both in the team, and Bree could use a break.

I wouldn't move him from midfield, our midfield has been crying out for some dynaism that he brings

But Berry was playing Carey’s role, getting forward and pressing the highest of the midfield 3?

If Carey isn't firing on all cynliders I'd like to see Knibbs start there, he looked up for it when he got subbed on - Might see the best out of him, as feel when we've started Carey AND Knibbs its a bit Gerrard and Lampard to shoe horn them in the team together

There is a glance from Kelman isn't there across the box before he takes the shot.
Wonder if thats "impacted" his decision to shoot towards the far post instead of near post, knowing a parry sets up Joe

You don't have to describe JRC's impact in empty platitudes like 'He keeps things ticking over' or 'He organises people.' His actual impact is self-evident. It should be the basic test for whether players like Doch etc are actually contributing.

Finally looks like the upgrade at CM we've needed.

Then you'd have to ask the manager.

We are a lightweight midfield, less so with JRC in the team.

I really have to hold my hands up on this one, up until the last 3 games I just didn’t get him and thought he was rubbish. But my god am I happy to eat humble pie, today in particular he was so good, he looks to go forward with clever little passes and actually tries to shoot. The gut  busting run for the goal was exceptional and so well deserved. Take a bow Joe and apologies for not showing patience in my appraisal of you. He has well and truly taken his opportunity with both hands and other than injury or form has made himself a starter.

Excellent attacking and defending today and used the ball well. On a tiny sample set of two performances, he looks a much better fit than Anderson or Docherty.
    So do I tbf
    And I'm 70

No! He looks like a composed CM, who would be too slow and his brain wasted at RWB. He came on as sub RWB earlier in the season and didn’t look great, possibly cos it’s not his ideal position

Man of the match in the lounge today .
If he could shoot properly he’d be amazing
some of those runs were impossible that he did .
    superb performance today

  • He has looked very decent last two games, carry on like that and he makes himself undroppable and a decent acquisition for £750K or whatever it was.  Seems a very sensible lad from the interview I heard with him after the game too.

Brilliant performance - exactly what the doctor ordered - no nonsense but with touches of class and the bollox to try things in the final third - more of that and we've got a new addition to our best 11.

Thought he had a decent game, thoroughly deserved his goal and Kelman's work to set it up was fantastic.
  • Great signing in retrospect, whoever scouted him. Exactly the kind of dynamic, forward looking player we've been needing... but had all along.

How its taken 5 months to notice him I don't know.

Next game Blackburn away, he's scoring isn't he.

Interesting honest quote from Jones in his interview with Cawley on substack, questioning why it took the Management team so long to play him

Sounds as well though he didn't get in because of the good start and then because Jones persevered with those he knew.

When JRC played against Cambridge in the cup he looked like a competition winner. Not sure if that game hindered his chances of getting in the side sooner but he’s clearly got the ability to be a difference maker for us
It’s great that he’s played well these last couple of games but I think he’ll frustrate as well as excite. He looks for the difficult pass, he tries to thread things through and he likes to run with the ball. When those things work they’re brilliant, when they don’t they can turn over possession and be aggravating; he tried to make some things happen against Southampton and I think he gave the ball away every time he got it in the last ten but at least he was trying to force the issue. I’m ok with that, if 1/10 of those difficult split second balls goes through and we score then it’s worth it.

I think that was his problem at the start of the season; Jones saw him as competing with Coventry in the deeper role like in the Cambridge game but that requires insane stamina and not giving the ball away. JRC has cramped up in just about every game I’ve seen him in and his style of playing low percentage killer passes regularly is not what we want from that deeper role. Coventry either keeps the ball ticking or puts in the kind of crosses that at least present a second ball opportunity. JRC’s get intercepted if they’re a raking through ball or out of play if they’re an ambitious switch ball - apart from when they don’t and they open up the play. Putting him in the shuttling role allows him to drive the ball up the pitch and doesn’t put as much pressure on him to keep possession if he gets to the final third. It’s odd because I think we all assumed he’d come in to replace Docherty but it seems to have taken Jones a long time to be willing to trust him there. Jones does like safety first and he does his nut when the ball gets given away though so I guess it’s not that shocking that he’s gone with players who don’t take risks up to this point

Physically, I've always thought that he looks like Declan Rice. If he can continue to be our Championship version, then we have a solid contributor.

He's doing things in two or three touches that Doc or Karoy need about four or five to do, and we're noticing that really makes a difference at this level!

Anyone else trying to figure out how he could get spanked around by a L2 midfield then go up against the likes of Eccles, Grimes and Rudoni and makes them look like toddlers
  • If JRC can keep that up, he could be the player to change our season.
One of our major problems has been next to zero cohesion between the midfield and attack. Our forwards have looked isolated and have had to live off scraps.
JRC tonight was driving forward from midfield, picking intelligent passes, both out wide, but also into the forwards inside the box, then looking to pickup the return ball and then shoot.
Most teams have such a playmaker and it's what we've been badly lacking, especially since Carey went off the boil.
I just hope he now gets a run in the team.

I know class when I see it 🤪
