Bristol City [A] tickets to go on restricted sale

  • strange way to allocate then - maybe out of missile range
  • I spend a lot of time in Bristol for work, and it is a cracking city. A pub lovers paradise with some absolutely phenomenal drinking spots dotted around the city centre. With the weather as it is, Saturday will be a cracker
  • Bristol rarely sell the front blocks - only if there significant demand.
  • Should have sold out very quickly imo, surprised it didn't.

A few Bristol City fans also surprised we haven't sold out.

We can't all be on holidays surely. Wembley there was a demand, we are in the big time now, would be nice to show it and back the team who have been so good for us for so long.
  • How far is Parson Rd station to the ground?
How reliable is the service to and from Temple Meads?

Doesn’t seem strange , seems very sensible and vindicated by our sales
  • How far is Parson Rd station to the ground?

Parson Street station is nearly a mile from the ground & about a 7 minute train ride from/ to Temple Meads Station.
Trains depart Temple Meads at 26 & 54 minutes past the hour.
Trains depart Parson Street at 13 & 37 minutes past the hour.

I didn't really think we would sell 2,503, although thought it just about possible.
I think the numbers sold are as expected and for us are very good.
It's not common for us to take over 2,000 away for a league game with between 2 & 3 hours travelling time.
  • Should have sold out very quickly imo, surprised it didn't.

A few Bristol City fans also surprised we haven't sold out.

Not really comparing apples with apples here. School summer holidays started about 2 weeks ago so plenty of families will use this time to spend time together abroad, play offs were in May, hence the turnout with the added help of the occasion. Don't think it's fair to allude that people aren't backing the team...

It would take 8.5% of our Wembley turn out roughly to sell out Bristol City away.

If you are in a position where you can go, but you aren't, but you were one of the people demanding for a Wembley ticket, then I'll be blunt, you are in no position to talk. (If that doesn't apply to you or anyone reading this, then you shouldn't care)

My post obviously doesn't apply to people who can't go for valid reasons. Based on the demand for Wembley, first season back in the Champ, nice weather, Saturday 3pm kick off, and us spending a significant amount of money, the team should be backed.

As I always say, if this was Liverpool away or Man United, people would be asking for spares. It's just the truth.

    please list your 'valid reasons'...

Bristol might be the nicest city in the world but I wont be seeing any of it. Drive, park, watch the match & drive home again.
  • If we sell over 2,000 tickets i think that is about what i was expecting.

Plenty of tickets still in Block 35 and a few in 41.

Personal view, I think it’s a little disappointing given all that’s happened in the last 12 months that we took 2,700 to Reading in L1 this time last year and we are struggling to sell our allocation for first game back in the Champ.

Middle of August when a lot of people are still away on holiday and you're disappointed that we've sold about 2,400 tickets? Seems like pretty decent numbers to me.
As I said, just personal view, but yes, a little surprised. We sold out so many away ends last season, comfortably taking numbers like 2,800 to Peterborough, Reading etc that I thought they’d be huge enthusiasm for the opening away game that it would not even reach general sale (even accounting for holidays).

Still a good turnout and I’m sure will be a good atmosphere, I just anticipated higher demand all things considered
Reading and Peterborough are so much closer though, it’s an hour or so on the train compared to 3 hours plus travel to the ground
Paddington to Bristol Temple Meads takes only 95 minutes, Woolwich to Paddington 27 minutes one of the most straightforward trips of the season.
    Half-hourly service Paddington /Temple Meads.
People using holidays as an excuse for non attendance, Watford sold out their allocation on Saturday as did Millwall at Norwich, Sheffield Wednesday at Leicester for example.

You are correct, your comment doesn't apply to me. But I have empathy for those who would love to go but can't (financially, family holidays for those who only get the evening with their kids ordinarily with work and school etc.). Just because the owners have deep pockets and spend a few quid doesn't mean everyone else is able to! We'd all love a sold out away end week in week out but it isn't realistic and we've sold good numbers for this game, enjoy it instead of taking aim at the fans! There is a reason The Valley holds 27k and not the 40k we enjoyed at Wembley.

There's 100s, I'm not gonna list them all.

My comment directly applies to anyone that can go, but won't go, but would undoubtedly be trying to get tickets to a more high profile game. Simple.

If people think my view is strong, it is what it is. It doesn't apply to people who want to go but physically can't

Agreed Clive, but don't forget the time to get to Woolwich (in your case) and the time from Temple Meads to the ground, plus connection times.
You're looking at roughly 3 hours door to door and that's with what is likely a quicker journey than most.
Obviously, not having a dig at you Clive one of our most loyal of fans.

    Oh we're going of course.

Yes, definitely a sensitive topic for you to bring it up and clearly something that bothers you dearly. Should be a great weekend all round with the boys backed by a very packed away end! COYR!

Just looking fwd to going to first away game in this seasons Champisonship, forecast is hot and Addicks have started well so hoping we can match them.  Going to make most of it so an early start hopefully get down to Bristol by 10am & have a more pleasant experience than in 1994 for FA cup. This match will be remembered for trouble after, with bricks flying through the air &  mounted police when our fans left the away end at Ashton Gate. Trust this visit will be more pleasant, planning to take a look at the graffiti murals & Banksy's & a meal by the docks before the match. COYA's

Yes it bothers me that we can sell out Wembley multiple times, Man United away in the Carabao Cup but not a fairly easy away day to get to because the ocassion isn't as big.

I am an attendance snob and I don't hide it.

I think the point some people are trying to make is that when we were at Old Trafford for example we took 9,000 fans for a much longer & expensive trip.
The regular away supporters don't seem to be put off attending games by holidays, price, distance, kick-off times etc.

A fairly easy game to get to might be different to you than it is to others. Current return ticket price to Bristol is £78 + ticket circa £30, that's just for one person, now imagine the price of a family. In the height of a cost of living crisis, with some recently shelling out massive sums of their wages on a season ticket, I think our numbers are commendable. And if you look at the ticket site, I think you'll find most adult tickets are gone.

Just a little empathy I feel and perspective is needed here. As said, should be a great game with a very big backing! Enjoy it!

I think you're completely missing my point. I am very, very vocal about prices in football. I constantly flag about how overpriced season tickets are, constantly say how overpriced away tickets are, I have said before I sympathise with anybody who struggles with money as I know how hard it is.

My post directly and very obviously applies to anyone who would attend a bigger fixture but won't this one, they should be backing the team as it's how we will grow..

I refuse to believe all 40k and the extra demand of Charlton fans for Wembley are all on holiday, or don't have the money etc. I guarantee this would be a sell out if it was a prem team with prestige in an away tie.

Sorry but how can I make it clearer? I am excluding anyone who physically can't make it to the game for whatever reason, but there will be people out there who would be asking for a ticket for a more high profile game, but won't go to this one.

It is disappointing we can't manage between 7-9% or so of our Wembley attendance for an important game.

    about 1.5k

How many have we actually sold? Going by the site i'd say it looks like at least 2,250. Might sell a few more at the ground tonight perhaps, so i think on the day maybe we'll have around 2,300.

Would obviously be great to have sold it out but that's not exactly a bad turnout.

I think the point some people are trying to make is that when we were at Old Trafford for example we took 9,000 fans for a much longer & expensive trip.
The regular away supporters don't seem to be put off attending games by holidays, price, distance, kick-off times etc.
Agreed, we sold 9,000 tickets but they weren't all Charlton fans  :)

Should have sold out very quickly imo, surprised it didn't.

A few Bristol City fans also surprised we haven't sold out.

We can't all be on holidays surely. Wembley there was a demand, we are in the big time now, would be nice to show it and back the team who have been so good for us for so long.

Other clubs in this league manage it.

We can't give it the big un' and have a circle jerk over Wembley but then not show out for League games.

Anyway it's clearly a sensitive topic, but that's my stance, if we sold out our allocation for Wembley and the play off games, we should easily be selling out our first away game after a promotion season.

If people think my view is strong, it is what it is. It doesn't apply to people who want to go but physically can't
Yes, definitely a sensitive topic for you to bring it up and clearly something that bothers you dearly. Should be a great weekend all round with the boys backed by a very packed away end! COYR!
Yes it bothers me that we can sell out Wembley multiple times, Man United away in the Carabao Cup but not a fairly easy away day to get to because the ocassion isn't as big.

I am an attendance snob and I don't hide it.

I fear then that you think our fanbase is bigger than it is. If you think our end at Webley was 100% full of Charlton fans then I think you're slightly delusional and I think using those numbers to make a case for the % of those needed to fill the away end is not very accurate. For those big occasions people bring friends and family who have an interest but do not support the club in the way say a regular or a season ticket holder would, and are often fans of other London clubs. If you'd rather those games were purely spectated by the perceived 'real fans' then you would see a significantly lower number. As said, there is a reason The Valley holds 27k seats and not 40k. I hope you have a wonderful weekend and we bring home a good result! COYR

How many Charlton supporters who go away live in Woolwich, or Lewisham, Greenwich and Bexley? Less than half I would think.
