edited with even better image. huge gaping goal to aim at to GKs right, or the roof of the net, but that's going straight at the keepers body. that's not where you should be aiming for!!
really he should be flicking that up and bicycling it in to the top right. Really poor from him. Doesn't make the next match day squad for me
Love that we're ignoring the fact that if he aimed further to his right he'd be having to avoid the block coming in. He made it hard for the keeper. If he saves it with his legs he has no control where it goes and there's a decent chance we still turn it in or it bobbles in anyway
Just on the discussion the other day about whether Tanto messed up his finish, this is a good shot of just after the moment he struck it:
Can't put it to the left of the keeper because the defender is there to block. The keeper is scrambling across and predicting a shot to his right which given how close it is he'd probably have a decent chance of stopping. As the keeper's already diving to the right any shot down the middle is going to be away from his dive and close to his body, which makes it hard to stop from that range. He's not got a huge amount of space to put the ball and I think just quickly hitting it hard straight down the middle was the best thing he could have done
I think you're still on last minute winner happy drugs cos you're talking rubbish here mate!
The picture you have just posted shows him firing the ball straight at the goalkeeper. In what world is that the best place to put it. Even though the keeper was preparing to dive, there was still an enormous chance of him blocking it with his legs or it hitting them accidentally.
Olaofe was only a few yards out, there was an ENORMOUS space to the goalie's right to fire that into where the keeper would have had no chance. The keeper was at best in the middle of the goal and if anything was further from towards the near post where the ball had come across from. He should have put that in the corner out of reach of the goalie, that sort of lack of clinical edge is why we're struggling to score goals.
What he did well is just focus on striking it cleanly and on target / not skying it. It doesn't matter now, but really it should have been a better finish and as it doesn't matter now, there is no point trying to pretend otherwise for the sake of it!
Er no, you can clearly see the keeper is going away from the middle. I know that it's a picture but the in the game the people were actually moving so the scene didn't stay that way, which is quite important. Let's not ignore the reality of what actually happened out here, he hit it down the middle where the keeper couldn't save it and it went in as a result. He even says he saw the keeper moving and put it away from the dive. The keeper ended up close to his post once the ball hit the net because he'd dived across when trying to predict the shot, which he got wrong because Tanto saw it coming.
It went through the goalie!!! He placed it AT the goalie. That is not what you should be aiming to do. It went in which is all that matters but you dont need to keep trying to convince yourself it was a world class finish!
I never said it was a world class finish though did I? I said that people saying it was a poor finish and he was lucky are being silly, he did the best thing he could do in the situation he had and that's pretty clear from the fact he scored. I suspect that the Championship footballer and goalscorer knows a bit about what he should be aiming to do.

Exactly, i believe he had time to balance the ball on his nose, showboat for at least a minute, fending off the keeper and three on rushing defenders, before nonchalantly and defly heading it in!

Very well said. I thought it was a great finish for the reasons you have stated. Seems some people are never happy, we need to score goals but not that goal.
Tanto was seven yards out in the centre of the goal with a defender in proximity and the goalkeeper centrally placed on his line. I’d say he did well enough to score there but on another day it could easily have been blocked by one or the other SU players. A goals a goal and perhaps we earned any luck involved.
While I'm talking about Knibbs, see his celebration for the goal? Chucks himself on the floor with no one near him. Don't need that woke nonsense in our team. I hope NJ gets in his ear ahead of the Blackburn game on that. No place in the game for it IMO

they've all had to be patient - my only criticism so far this season is that we've sometimes waited too long to make certain subs.
Poor show from the lad.
Roll on Blackburn next Saturday.
