I know NJ loves Alan Mwamba as a prospect but that's another one like Fullah where we can't rely on academy kids.

Yeah I was gonna say is there another academy player we want to give a chance to. Might also be that gough might be ready to make the step into midfield occasionally.
Gough usually plays DM for the u21s, it's arguably his best position.

Mwamba has similar qualities to Anderson but I think we'd see Gough in midfield before him, but hopefully it doesn't come to that.

There's also no rule against playing Coventry as the 8. It may seem against nature but I reckon it's doable

Would say overall that’s an ok window. 2 main concerns we are left with is a lack of quality in midfield and a lack of numbers at LWB. Latter is more worrying for me as that’s been a much bigger reason for our struggles than the midfield
I think Fevrier is considered as cover on the left if needed.
Hope I am wrong but really not sure he is going to be much better than TC is there. He’s a good league 1 right sided player, maybe he can step up but I doubt he’s a championship quality LWB when that’s not even his best side

Chambers staying fit is what will decide our fate. Big risk putting that much faith in a young player that hasn’t played much football. Big opportunity now with 3 home games to give us some breathing room for if injuries do happen later on
Fevrier is left footed though, unlike TC. On the right he's an inverted winger.

When he played on the left on Saturday at the end of the game, he stuck in a decent cross with his left.

he's not good enough to get in stockport's side on the right, christ knows what makes our management think he can play LWB in the champ - anyway, we have what we have now so in NJ we trust

Lingaard would actually be a pretty decent fit. Lots of running so Jones would love him.

Sterling, Oxlade Chamberlain and Ryan Kent all still free agents as well whilst we're dreaming.
While we’re being ridiculous - James Rodriguez needs a club before the World Cup
NJ would have an aneurysm on the touchline after about 30 secs of James in the side 😭😭

He's not great but letting Anderson go without a certain replacement is just mad. Can't understand why we'd weaken ourselves in an already weak area.
I think there comes a point when you have to look after a youngster and that time is now, he was clearly out of his depth and to continue playing could ruin the kid, I don’t think we are that short in that position he deserves to be put in that scenario, a lot of fans were already getting on his back, so IMO a good decision.

Nothing worked for him on the right and I know it was his first go but looked better when he moved to the left.

Maybe Sunderland will release that Poveda, as he clearly has no future there.
That would fit in with our policy of signing out of contract players who turn out to be unfit, useless....or both.

NJ has gone for defensive signings and putting some defenders into midfield to make us harder to beat. In doing so, he is weakening our attacking capabilities, so that should not surprise us.

I see lots of tight games ahead as we try and grind out the points we need to stay up.

Collins and Coady are the key to our midfield for the rest of the season.

Not sure what other thread to put this on, but now our business is concluded (it seems) - assuming we stick to some sort of semblance of 5-3-2:

    GK: Kaminski, Mannion, (Brooks)
    RWB: Clarke, FevrierRamsay*
    RCB: Ramsay, Sichenje, Mitchell(?), Gough(?)
    CB: Jones, Burke
    LCB: Bell, Gillesphey
    LWB: Chambers, FevrierBell*, Campbell*
    CDM: Coventry, Coady
    CM: Docherty, JRC
    CAM: Carey, Berry, Fullah
    FW: Campbell, Kelman, (Dixon)
    FW: Dykes, Leaburn, Godden

Injured: Edwards, Knibbs (he might return this season)

    --------------------------

My rule of thumb is two per position. From that perspective we're technically lightest at wing-back (three players covering two roles), but "overloaded" at CB, but two of them can be seen as cover for the WBs. So technically we are... covered somewhat, in defence.

Midfield - despite us having seven for three positions, technically - looks light, when Berry and Fullah probably aren't the answer for different reasons, and Coady will be a huge question mark. Maybe we are muddling along until Knibbs is back? Letting Anderson go looks like a mistake imo.

Up front - technically fine personnel-wise, and I think we have enough diversity of footballer for us to adapt to different guises of back line.

    -------------------------

Imo, we are in a slightly better position overall than we were a month ago imo. Chambers and Clarke look okay, Fevrier gives us flexibility, Sichenje could be anything, Coady we will see, and it is lovely seeing Matty Godden back around the first team.

This said, midfield looks lighter: we weren't ever going to find adequate Coventry cover so this is all about calculated risks. If we had to start a midfield three of Coady, JRC and Berry, I'd be worried. (Not that I don't think the former two - in particular - can perform with the right players around them, but it isn't inspiring as a trio.)

Just stay up, basically. Back the squad we have to that end eh.

Shame we didnt get a couple of more defenders in, any injuries and Gough is the only other defender we have on the bench. Anyway my Team for QPR

                           Kaminski

                    Ramsay Jones Bell
       Clarke                                    Chambers

                              Coady

                    Burke    Gillesphie

                     Sichenje Mitchell
Way too attacking and the wrong formation. Must be 4-5-1 with Macca playing up front as the battering ram.

We could play Clarke in the middle three if needed, with Collins or Burke in the back three with Ramsay going to wing back, not ideal but Clarke has played there before and he has not let us down yet.

I was a bit worried we were light for numbers in midfield before we let Anderson go. For all his flaws, he’s a useful option towards the end of games and someone I liked having in the squad. It should be good for his development but a bit surprised it’s been sanctioned without a replacement. Left side of defence still a worry too.

On reflection I would say we are stronger than when we started the window. Definite improvement at left wing back and perhaps a slight improvement at right wing back; remember Bree started like a house on fire and faded, hopefully Clarke can maintain this. Added depth at CB. Hugely experienced additions in the form of Coady and Dykes. For January I think that is decent going.

Let’s see if we do dip in for any free agents, Jones has done it every window so far. Jan 24 window: Wickham, LuaLua. Aug 24: Potts, Hylton. Jan 25: Bouzanis (slightly different to the others) Aug 25: Hernandez, Roussilon.

In a weird perverse  kinda way I want to see this happen .

If Poveda was to sign as a free agent then one positive to consider is he was signed by current Sunderland manager Regis Le Bris. And if you watched them tonight you’d see he knows what he’s doing.

we're definitely stronger now than before the window opened,i'll say that - my biggest worry is if Tc gets injured - that would leave Fevrier as the only recognised winger / ball carrier and lets be honest, he's got a touch of the hernandez about him - hope i'm wrong

Dont get the point in selling Mbick now we havent even got the time to properly spend any money

You do not know that. If we were confident of selling him, we could have one or more purchases already agreed, subject to finalising the Mbick deal. We shall soon find out.
    Bold words Wolfgang !

Edit: Ok, I have only just got your joke. Very good. I am a bit slow up top ever since I got beaten up behind the bicycle sheds for wearing a Charlton/Millwall half and half scarf in the early sixties.

The emboldening was due to an IT malfunction caused by my cat running across the keyboard.

    I have the same problem.

A bit disappointed Karoy going without a replacement.

Out of the 6 midfielders left, Karoy gives something different. He has more energy, more aggression, and can press better than any of those six. He’s not so good with the ball as others, but i can’t believe there’s not going to be games in the coming months where there wouldn’t have been value having a centre mid pressing high against an opposition with a sitting deep play dictator, or even just a simple disrupter in the middle.

Ask Karoy to be a box to box baller or play dictator and he’ll currently come up short. But I thought there was a definite squad role for him in the run in. If we were replacing with better then great, but we haven’t replaced with anything
