Money talks more than anything else……by that I mean salary.FirenzeAddick said:I don't get the line that players aren't going to want to join Charlton because we are a smaller club in a relegation battle. We are a Championship side based in London who have yet to be in the relegation zone this season. There are very few squad places for active players in the top 2 divisions, there will be players lining up for an opportunity in the Championship - even if its with a view to us being a stepping stone.Thank goodness some of you aren't working in our recruitment team. Maybe some players see the benefit in being the man to come in and make a real difference in getting us moving back up the table.7 -
We have a better stadium and history than at least half the Championship, but the issue is that the game has suddenly been bought by American capital, and their American capital has a bigger dick than ours. I hate this timeline10

All this worry but am I right to think we've played less home games than anyone else in the league? Of course with recent results and performances it has not been great at all but with 3 on the spin, time to rest in between where some of our teams are playing days before and after due to the cup, lets see where we are situated after that. Friday - Wednesday - Tuesday, some would say that's lucky on our end if we pick up a few results and start playing like a team!1

Pretty obvious how unenthusiastic Bree sounds about staying at Southampton"I'm not sure. If I'm here, and they want to keep me, then I'm here, and I want to play. If not, then we'll just see. It's all been up in the air, so we'll see," Bree said post-match when questioned about where his future lies.

Thought exactly that, doesnt scream im over the moon to be back here does itkillerandflash said:

Yep our American capital has alot more money but a smaller dickLeuth said:We have a better stadium and history than at least half the Championship, but the issue is that the game has suddenly been bought by American capital, and their American capital has a bigger dick than ours. Think if Bree happens (which I'm not that convinced about) it'll be the last few hours of deadline day.5

We really don't to be honest, and it's a bit sly on the other clubs. I would say that applies to Oxford United & Wrexham, but no one else in terms of stadium.Leuth said:We have a better stadium and history than at least half the Championship, but the issue is that the game has suddenly been bought by American capital, and their American capital has a bigger dick than ours. Every other team have fantastic grounds, and ours isn't better if you take off the rose tinters. There are also plenty of clubs in this league with a bigger trophy cabinet than ours.
Yes we are a Championship club in size, and we have a nice stadium, but to suggest we are better than half the league is a bit delusional imo and borderline arrogant, sorry.7 -

We’ll have to see at the end of the window as well. We may have three in, but we’re likely to see a few out which I don’t have a problem with, but we have to be able to feel we’re in a better position than we were at the end of Decemberdmccart32 said:
Oh yes Sorry forgot about Clarke, he looks ok.Athletico Charlton said:AberystwythAddick said:
We’ve signed two people by the waydmccart32 said:NJ made all these comments back in December, and looking at where we are now, I think he badly misread the situation. He said LWB was the only real priority and that getting injured players back would solve most problems, but the evidence since shows the entire squad isn’t good enough, and that goes back to money being spent poorly in the summer.
It also seems clear we’ve missed out on the few targets we actually wanted this window. And let’s be real: players aren’t desperate to join a club in a relegation fight. Plus, IF (and only if) Jones has a reputation for being difficult, that won’t help...players talk.
Meanwhile, look at other clubs: Norwich picked up Ali Ahmed from Vancouver for around £2m (according to Transfermarkt). For that kind of money they’ve strengthened immediately (3 games, 2 goals, 2 assists), while we’ve stood still. I know a fact in these types of signings is wages etc, but also look at Pompey's new signing grabbing a goal in the derby game. Sometimes you need that injection of new energy to create a spark.
So the reason we haven’t signed anyone isn’t the owners, or lack of money today, it’s misjudgement, missed targets, and the fact we’re simply not an attractive proposition right now.
Dykes, Chambers, Clarke = 3
Job done and we are good to go then!1 -
Rumours please!!! Who cares what the stadium looks like. Players don’t, they wanna see £££££ in their account.14
-
I think we need Bree back personally. His experience and general stability in that role is invaluable.Allows strength in depth on that right side also so we don’t end up how we have on the left.Still think we need a permanent starting left back and a midfielder who is head and shoulders above what we have atm.13

We have a better history than:
Middlesbrough
Hull
Millwall
Wrexham
Bristol City
Watford
MAYBE QPR (it's arguable)
Birmingham
Swansea
MAYBE WBA (it's arguable)
MAYBE Portsmouth (they're basically us)
Oxford
That's half the league
As for stadium, I'd need to visit more of the to really tell, but are you really fucking telling me The Valley is worse than all but two Championship grounds? I know you have a prophet of doom thing to promote but that is absolute horseshit, and kind of traitorous to boot3 -
A few games in August when we were an unknown quantity on the front foot and every player was playing out of their skin proves very little. When he was later played at wingback he looked like a fish out of water. He is not strong enough to tackle Championship level attackers, simple as that.NabySarr said:
Anyone who watched him in August knows that Apter can play RWB for us if we get the balance right in the rest of the team. That’s been the problem and why he has barely been used sincegolfaddick said:
Back in August when I asked on here why we bought him & was told he can play RWB......despite reading that his previous manager at Blackpool (Steve Bruce) said he was an winger in the traditional sense.Southbank said:
The very idea that Apter can play at wingback reeks of desperation.Bailey said:
We signed him on the 29th September on a four month deal, so the last day he is in the building, on that contract, is Thursday. For me it's the replacement for Gillie that is key, Amari Bell can play in Gillies position and wing back, we also have Luke Chambers and possibly Rob Apter who could cover the wing back position.Scoham said:
Surely we’re not going to offer Hernandez a longer deal?Bailey said:So, Hernandez reportedly back in training, played a part of his career at wing back. Amari Bell, nearing fitness, even though in all likelihood he will manage only 50% of the remaining fixtures. We have brought in a talented youngster and we have Gillie. I believe if Hernandez remains here then our hopes of bringing in a quality left sided defender are probably not going to be met.

Depends what you view as fantastic. Loftus Road was built before we were even founded and it's a nice compact stadium, I think that's fantastic personally.LargeAddick said:

It's quite a small ground, but it's historic, and QPR do have a lot of history.
Just think it's a bit insane to say we are better than 12 clubs when we really aren't, as much as I love the Valley and appreciate our history.
Anyway, not really the thread for it, hopefully some incomings

And before any of you pipe up that our history isn't all that and Birmingham or whatever are clear, I ask: was there a 15-year period where Birmingham were absolutely one of the giants of English football? Even if the biggest war in history lay in the middle of that period?0

Only if we do not have a collapsed left side of defence in those games. It really does come down to that.cafc-4-life said:All this worry but am I right to think we've played less home games than anyone else in the league? Subuteo Stadium no leg room in their seats if you’re over 5’8” and that’s being generous 😡LargeAddick said:

We will probably sign him anyway - you know for the future 🤔🙂😆fenaddick said:
You're right, he's played for both Luton and Rotherham so can't play anywhere else (in Europe anyway)Swisdom said:Luton looking to offload Tom Holmes
strange because he was incredibly highly rated a few years back (£5m bracket) but seems to have lost his way since his peak. At 25 he is a decent age and probably fits Curbs’ criteria of yesteryear of being “hungry and angry”.
we need bodies in defence and I’m not sure how much he’d want but maybe getting him playing might be sufficient incentive to him.He has recently had a spell on the sidelines but was recalled/returned from loan at Rotherham so might be in the same position as Zach Mitchell in that he can't play for another team this season.
Just a thought0 -
We were big when support, stadium and player base was what made you big. Nowadays teams are big cos some billionaire arbitrarily picked them to be their boutique vanity project. Bournemouth will always be fucking tiny9

I think I've become an old man12

QPR don't want to be at Loftus Road and have been trying to leave for about 30 years.4

If Tanto is to be loaned back to Stockport, surely we could try and get Pye as part of the deal...1

Roussillon will wish he were still at The Valley if there is pie involved.felix_31 said:If Tanto is to be loaned back to Stockport, surely we could try and get Pye as part of the deal...15 -
