The Cody's leg have gone argument..Lloyd Jones aint a greyhound is he 🤣 Coady may not have the legs now but his know how and positioning will make up for that in this relegation battle.

Get the worry that he is replacing Jones. We can only speculate at this point but when you are in the shit, you need character/experience to pull you out, that goes for Godden aswell.

Forgive me if I’m completely off with this, but would Coady be a more or less expensive deal overall than Rak Sakyi? Whether we agree with the signing or not, Coady doesn’t strike me as a particularly cheap deal on the wage front.
Palace want an obligation to buy clause in any JRS deal. Last i read they quoted Celtic about 8m, so it's unlikely we're going anywhere near that.

It’s impossible to know how much we are or aren’t paying.

Lloyd Jones is one of the best in the air and box defenders in the championship though. So even if he is a bit slow (quicker than Coady) he is still our best and most important player

Coady is shit and if he plays a significant amount of minutes then we will be getting relegated. Thankfully, I doubt this is our plan and he will mostly sit on the bench

Yeah but that's kind of the point. Without Bell, we have Jones (who isn't very fast), Gillesphey (who is very NOT fast) but the solution is Coady? Experience will be very useful as he'll know exactly what will happen when the next striker with a modicum of pace shows him a clean pair of heels.

It says he was linked before he went to Wrexham. It's only at Wrexham that he's shown his new lack of legs.

The legs go very quickly. Look at Ben Watson. Top player in the Championship the season before he moved to us.

I don't mind him signing to be a leader and emergency cover should several CB's get injured at the same time, but if he's here to improve our defense, I'm suddenly very worried about our ability to bring in good players this week.
If Bell is back soon, then a back 3 of him, Jones and Coady surely has to be an improvement on recent games?
There is more pace and movement in a geriatric home than that back 3.

I get Coady had England caps and prem appearances, but the last England appearance was 4 years ago. Need I point out its been less time than that since Rousillon was in the Bundesliga?

I understand wanting signings, and he may add character, but we have a defence repeatedly exposed by anyone with pace or direct attacking quality - Coady makes this worse not better. I seriously implore you to watch the Wrexham highlights when he was in their team, particularly against QPR.
    The third goal especially.

I mean, Burrell would burn off most CB in this league

Signing an England goal scoring international and you lot are still not happy!
Reinforcements at LWB or LB, Charlton have struggled since Nov & if its not afdressed then staying up will be very difficult.

Idiots!!, at least we know we are getting castoffs!!
  • Can I be the 15th one to say that Coady is probably about as quick as L Jones is, so 'your legs going' is all relative to what they were like before.

Is he the whole solution to the issue? No.

Is he a good addition as cover. Probably yes

So we are going from spunking money on players with potential, to players that have used up all their potential and come out the other side. Nothing like a good strategy!!!!

I think were a little deluded in who we are going to get in. Nobody involved in any matchday squads in the Champ are coming here. Nobody in the Top 8 of League one would be coming here. That means were farming in field raw or wilted veggies like Chambers and Coady and hoping that somehow we survive and get chance to build again.

Only sustained seasons in this league will allow us to move from fishing in this pond

Jones doesn’t like loans yet now we’ve signed 3 and relying on these short term lads in it for the wages not for what division Charlton are playing in next season to keep us up

we’ve succeeded last season cos we didn’t have any of that and signed a load of largely young hungry players who wanted to progress with Charlton and were contracted to us

+ he sounds old and shit now

I get January is tough and perhaps this is a backup cos we know Jones has a knock already and without him we fucked but we desperately need a dynamic energetic ball player in the middle of the pitch

Coady'd do for me .. seems our finances don't allow for us to go after the cream of the crop or even the skimmed milk, soooo, an experienced pro like Coady could be a decent short term newcomer, IF we get him .. also we need to up our Scouser count !
Maybe not, but why to continue to sign has been plodders. Why not try to sign younger, up an coming players? It’s back to square one in the summer otherwise. We’re not learning from Hernandez and Roussilon.

Or… a mixture…? A balance of leaders with experience, players in or near their prime and youngsters with potential… that is what most clubs aim for?

Makes a lot of sense to me.

Like we did in the summer with Olafe, Apter, Knibbs etc?

How’s that working out?? I’m all for experience as long as they can still cut it.

Ah that’s a fair point, and does rule us out.

I’m slightly puzzled why we are bringing in cover - the whole point of this week was that we needed an upgrade in quality to go into our team (and the players that have been playing drop to the bench and become the cover). I know that’s much easier said than done in this window, but we probably need at least 3 more signings with the ability to start in our team and make it better in the door this week. I’m not sure Coady ticks that box does he?

Why not see if Raheem Sterling fancies a few games to keep himself fit.
