I’m not saying we have to be happy with EVERYONE we sign, and I’m fully onboard with the view that if Coady plays every week we will likely continue to be in trouble. 

BUT we have to have cover for our injury prone squad (mostly defenders), and we need to improve our depth. We need experience and we need leadership for the run in. Coady provides that.

Can we wait to see what else comes in before damning the strategy? You can’t always sign in order of priority and I’m sure Jones et al know the need for a body in the middle of the park and on the left side of defence.

We know we don’t have the funds to compete with the big boys, this appears to be our level of signing. If none of those areas are improved and this signing was at the cost of one of those positions, then we can be annoyed - but until then surely we have to be patient?

This is what annoys me. Every other club in the Championship is creative with their transfers, looking for value, a rough diamond etc.

All we every do is sign middle-old, British players ideally with a link to Luton. The requisite qualities required seem to be they players can't pass or keep the ball, they are just have to be stoppers or workhorses.

My concern is that when NJ does inevitably go in the next 2-4 weeks, the new manager will be looking around asking where is the ability to pass, create or sprint. It's such a poorly constructed squad totally in the image of NJ.

If he does somehow keeps us I'd still want him politely moved on in the summer as this anti-football isn't how we progress up the league.

Coady is 32 and an ex-England international. His legs are unlikely to have ‘gone’ at that age and with that pedigree. How about we give him a bloody chance?

The pool of players NJ is happy to sign from is incredibly small.

It hurts us significantly.

Coady hasn’t kicked a ball yet so we will have to wait and see. I don’t think anyone is saying he is our saviour but you have to be realistic and accept our place in the food chain. 

Whilst it is more exciting signing the ‘rough diamonds’ can we afford that risk in our position? If we signed an unproven youngster that we need to nurture and they amounted to nothing everyone would be damning the recruitment team. People are already itching to do this with Chambers. So this feels like the safer option given our situation.

Coady was picked for England squads for years purely because of how good he is off the field. On the field he showed at Wrexham that he’s not good enough anymore at this level 

If the plan is to sign Coady and he’s going to play regularly then that is a terrible decision

I like being creative but is now the right time for us? Would hate us to sign this Faroese bloke and it turns out he’s crap so we’re back to playing Gillesphey and no better off, for example.

I remember everyone praising Wycombe last January for signing a couple of unknowns from Scandinavia. They barely played because it turned out they weren’t good enough.

It’s not very sexy but at least players like Coady are known quantities which is what we need for stabilities sake.

It’s a bit different for Oxford - they’re playing catch up from 23rd and so taking bigger swings is the right strategy for them.

I love how people are using the word of Wrexham fans as gospel, people who haven't even watched football until about 4 years ago, and based on 5 games for them.

Dobson had 5 shit games for us at the start of his time here

Tough relegation scrap on our hands for the rest of the season, so you need players like Coady. Cover for LJ i assume anyway

Certain players fit certain clubs and don't fit others, I always judge a player once I've seen them wear a Charlton shirt. Leadership and Experience in Championship is a positive and whats needed at the moment, would have probably seen out the Blackburn away game with some nous in the side and you could add Portsmouth to that as well.

Why are you assuming that's what's happened? Plenty of us will have watched those 5 games (or at the very lease highlights) and seen with our own eyes. Now there is potential that he just wasn't up to speed and needed to build up some match fitness but the same will be true now

I like him for the leadership quality, particularly if Doc is out the door. He will definitely set standards and be demanding, he'll be fine coming off the bench too. What I don't want is to see him start a large body of games against the pacey attackers in the Championship.
