What do you all think the going rate for a Championship footballer is these days? If you are stunned at £12.5k p/w, you're not going to like where we end up!21

Thanks, so it looks like it hasn’t been decided how much we pay. And that’s what’s still being negotiatedfenaddick said:

For a reported 12.5k a week it’s a wank signing.CAFCsayer said:Coady is a good signing if cover for jones, if he is being signed to start, in not so sure
absolutely fucking mental to consider paying that much for a back up player.
Wrexham are desperate to get rid because they have too many players signed on in their squad. They’ll be taking a huge hit on his wages

I’d imagine Wrexham want 50%, we want to pay less, and the compromise will be that we meet somewhere in the middle. I really don’t believe we will be paying him 12.5k but if that’s true I guess that puts the rumours of no investment to bed3 -

Did you miss the bit from the Wrexham fans saying he was slow when he played at the start of this season in the Championship ? It took Parky 5 games before he dropped him and supposedly he's not played since.FirenzeAddick said:golfaddick said:
Love the spin you're trying to put on it but let me align you with the facts.Jdredsox said:Not commented much on here as I didn't have any rumours, but you have to laugh.
Last week everyone was complaining about Chambers not having enough experience and that was what we needed in the relegation battle. This week we're complaining about signing an experienced defender, who hasn't even signed yet.
No-one was complaining about Chambet's lack of EXPERIENCE.......they were complaining about his lack of FITNESS. In case you were unaware the reason why he only played 45 mins on Sat was because he had only played 2 games of football this season due to a back injury he sustained last April and therefore he game time has to be "managed". I doubt we'll see him play 90 mins for a good few weeks yet so unless we sign another left footed defender we might be seeing TC at LWB for the next few games.
And the complaints around Coady are that he is slow & not what he need when you are in a relegation battle. Experience us one thing.....being past it is another. If only football & recruitment was as simple as you pretend it to be, you are a master at finding problems but don't ever seem to put forward a reasoned solution? The simple solution to all problems in football, is buy better players. The trouble is every other club has worked that out too, and if you have less money than them its hard to complete. If we could bring in a match fit left back to suit our budget and fit our style of play, I can 100% categorically guarantee that Jones and the board would have done so.Leicester fans context for Coady is in a Championship promotion season and a relegation from the Premier League, very different to ours and the standard/speed of the PL is worlds apart.
And are you telling me that there are no fit left backs in the whole of Europe ? Yes, they might cost a bit of money but thats what it takes to stay in this League. What was it Oscar Wilde said about knowing the price of something & the value of nothing. It will cost more than a couple of million if we get relegated & are stuck in League One for another 5 years. No, I saw it - but we're not Wrexham and maybe he was exposed because of the mammoth changes they had made across their 11. I'll judge him in a Charlton shirt. No, of course there are fit left backs, your doing your usual and being obtuse. Can you name any who's clubs are willing to let them go mid season, don't cost the earth, are in form, suit our game, speak English, willing to move country and are physical enough to play in the Championship? If so, send the list to Jones as I'm sure he'll be grateful. The easiest thing in the world is saying just stump up the millions. What if they do, and it doesn't work out anyway - were relegated and have a high salary dud? We're in a worse position again.4 -
Mbick Returning?
Not in Colchester’s squad tonight.0 -

The difference was no one had actually seen Bell play. Lots of us have seen Coady play this season. He’s been a complete liability.Bournesnr said:Seem to recall people moaning about us signing Bell, same as they are about Coady, his legs have gone etc. don’t hear them so much now though.Think I’ll reserve judgement until I’ve seen him play.
If he becomes our player I’ll hope we see a decent performer. But this combined with Dykes is not a transfer that fills me with any hope or optimism.0 -

maybe they are waiting until Friday to announce as a statement signing to lift spirits prior to our drubbing on Saturday!44 -

Looking at the Bell thread and there really wasn't many people moaning, next to none, in fact was overwhelming seen as a really good signing.

The Coady signing is fine, but ONLY if it’s to provide cover for LJ.
If Lloyd is out, we have no decent cover in the centre of a back three.
That’s the only reason he should be signed.

Somehow I don't think she is referring to Charlton? However I have had a problem ever since the Millwall game! Seem to have lost interest in being either up or down.
Any advice greatly appreciated.....1 -
A lot of comments were made of the fact that he hasn't played a competitive game since March 2025 so he is nowhere ready to play games as evidenced by Jones withdrawing him on saturday & putting our only decent attacking threat in his place thereby negating our attacking "ability". In Senior football he has played 14 games for Kilmarnock & 30 for Wigan. I think he may have been used as a sub in a couple of League cup games (or whatever it's called these days) for Liverpool. Certainly some comments have been made about his lack of experience but why not ? We are sinking faster than Jérôme Roussillon after a tin of Quality Street, we need championship experience in our team not some inexperienced lad who hasn't played in almost a year.Michaelmon said:

Lets not forget Jones is playing with an injury, maybe he desperately needs to be rested or we could lose him for the rest of the season.Bailey said:
I am still trying to get my head around Coady being signed as cover. If Jones is out for a number of games, yes absolutely agree but I still think you may see him in the right sided centre back position currently occupied by Ramsay, based on the fact that, I didn't attend the Millwall game, I was not wearing a Charlton shirt at the time but I still played better than Ramsay and for that matter Burke, all four goals involved those two individuals, and not in a good way either.aso914 said:According to Sky Coady is currently on 25k at Wrexham and the clubs are trying to figure out what percentage of his wages we’ll pay. Even if we are paying a quarter that feels a bit pricey for someone that’s meant to be cover. That money could go towards wages for a CM.5 -
Are we under a Transfer Embargo?
This window is starting to remind me of the infamous Matt Southall window where we were only allowed to bring in free transfers & loans.

No, the EFL publish a list of clubs under an embargo.
