Winter-January 2026 Transfer Window Rumours ...

My bet will be the team on Saturday wont be much different to the one that faced Millwall. Chambers wont play 90 mins so expect to see TC playing there for part of the match. If we sign Coady by then he might play a part but only if Lloyd Jones is not fit.SDAddick said:
I think Clarke and Dykes have looked handy so far. I think the biggest undercurrent with the two windows is that it's hard to get domestic players in when you're near the bottom of the Championship table and wage table. I wish our scouting network was larger than it seems to be, but right now we seem intent on signing from the domestic market/Scotland at a stretch. And the fact of the matter is there's just a limit in the number of players available full stop, let alone quality, experienced LWBs/LCB/quality #8s.Callumcafc said:
Maybe let’s allow them to play more than 1 or 2 game before we say they’re no different to David Davis.ns9 said:
An interesting point is raised above - in the January window of the 19/20 season we brought in Aiden McGeady, Andre Green and David Davis all on loan while we were under embargo.golfaddick said:
With less than a week to go until the transfer window shuts and we've brought in 3 loans (and now maybe a fourth) when NJ has said previously that he doesn't like using loans would suggest that very little, if any, real money is going to be spent.Danny Addick said:Being brought in as extra defensive cover and a skilled personality for the dressing room is fine if that’s the case - and please don't expect to get better for £12k as you’ll be disappointed -
but I’m hoping the real money will be spent on the LWB and CM!
In this window so far we’ve brought in Harry Clarke on loan, Lyndon Dykes on a 6 month deal and Luke Chambers on loan.
Not much difference in my view.
I'll judge this window when the window slams shut on Monday (Monday, right?). Some things, like Chambers, didn't happen as fast as would be ideal. But he's still here for 17 games, and hopefully for our key run in February he'll be fit and up to speed. Dykes looks very good in the air, unsurprisingly, and he's looked a bit more mobile than I expected. Clarke has overall looked tidy and seems capable of putting a decent ball in, it's just about getting him into those quality attacking positions that we need to work on.
We still need at least two after Coady, but I think Coady is at least worth a look as cover for LJ. We are thin at the back at the best of times, so Coady would mean we have three CBs (Burke/Ramsay, LJ, Bell) and three to cover (Burke/Ramsay, Coady, Macca). Still need more cover/quality on the left side of defense, as well as a quality #8. It's going to go down to the wire, and this is a reminder that deals don't necessarily get done in the order or need, they get done in the order they get done. Which is unfortunate, as we could have really used a LWB at the start of the window, as has been covered to death.
In short, everyone take a deep breath. This is an evolving situation. Our starters and our bench look stronger and more balanced now than they did a month ago--and that's especially the case when Bell is back. I know Saturday was shit, but I think there's a decent chance that was the nadir and not the new standard. Obviously, it had better be the nadir because if it's not then we're going down. But I think NJ and the squad have earned the right to put it right on Saturday.
More same old same old.......for all of January.1 -
This all day long. We've been away from The Championship for a long time and it's changed a lot since then. I'd go so far as to say the money in the league is probably not too far short of around our last season in the Premier League when you look at our summer transfer fees spent and wages now being offered.Sage said:

12.5k a week is peanuts in the championship and without a transfer fee... To put it into context, I'm pretty sure Chuks wasn't miles off of that. An experienced head like coady and a bit of leadership as a rotation option is a good signing in my bookAberystwythAddick said:
For a reported 12.5k a week it’s a wank signing.CAFCsayer said:Coady is a good signing if cover for jones, if he is being signed to start, in not so sure
absolutely fucking mental to consider paying that much for a back up player.
Also sure I’ve said it before but many on here need to realise that players, including our own, are being paid a lot more than you think. 12k is tiny in the Championship. Stockley when he was here was on around 10k and we were a crap League One team.5 -
Totally agree. If we don’t get in another left sided defender we’re doomed, if it’s not the number one priority it’s absolute madnessAlwaysneil said:We can only play one system that keeps enough oppo busy we dont get overrun. That system involves TC as a forward and a LB or LWB. When we have a LB or LWB (even Bell) then we do OK and get points. When we don't, we lose.
Another LB/LWB has to be our main priority.

The first spell I'd say he was really good, coincided with an excellent run of form under Luzon. Second run was an absolute disaster after a spell in India, helps gets us relegated...and then starts offering out fans after we lose to Bury (RIP) in our first game back in League One...DamoNorthStand said:

Not sure if this is my mind playing tricks on me but did he have two spells? The fist he was actually pretty good and then shocking later?6 -
So pleased you used 'full stop' and not period @SDAddick.SDAddick said:

It’s more that some of us think that he might not be match fit, that he is way past his best and maybe not the shoe-in we need right now. He may turn out to b a real gem and help us stay up and if he helps us do that, then i will be the first to praise the signing. He should be good cover for Lloyd, but he may turn out to be the liability that Wrexham seem to think it is. Does anyone know anything about his recent form and fitness ?2121 said:Not sure how anyone can complain with a coady signing!
We also need a LWB, LB and an attacking midfielder.1 -
Real bad smell to this one, whether he's match fit or not.4

When we brought in Harry Arter on loan the Forest ? fans warned us his legs had gone - they were spot on.
Now Wrexham fans are saying the same thing about Cody.
Hope I'm wrong but I don't feel positive about this.10 -

NJ signed two no 10s when we already had Berry and Fullah in the building with Godden capable of playing there.
He committed to 3-5-2 but signed Apter for big money,, who is only a winger.
Three left footed defenders for 2 places was always a gamble and MG was rubbish for 6 months in the division below. Midfield was slow and small in L1 but only Knibbs recruited who didnt pull up trees.
Playing hoof ball but only Miles with any chance of being a target man.
What a shambles!!!7 -
No offence, but fair few of you need to take a breath and a reality check. We are a low budget Championship side. The constant daily moaning demanding perfection is exhausting to read.I get the frustration has grown ten-fold since Saturday, it was a pathetic and unacceptable display. But moaning about every single thing the club try to do with player recruitment is ridiculous. They bring in young up-and-coming players, you moan we needed experience. They try to bring in experience, you moan they're not fast enough. We are not going to drop millions of pounds this month on the high Championship quality players you want/expect/demand.54

Sorry not interested in General Rumours, so haven't been following this thread.
I'm only interested in Charlton related rumours and I couldn't see anything anywhere else about Cody, so I put it in this thread.
Just trying to be helpful, and get accused of being Ronnie Mk 2 ! 😭😭0 -
If you think we paid “big money” for Apter and Knibbs, you should take a look at some of the other championship signings. Birmingham just signed a winger from Alaves for £7m.They’ve got 7 points more than us… as an indication of the level.26

Connor Coady appears to be a player on the way down. I thought that when he signed for Wrexham and he's now being bombed out by them. I hope he's fantastic for us, if he signs. An all action leader who drags us away from the bottom three in the swan song of his career. But I just don't believe that will happen. Does anyone?2 -

Bang on. False economy to not spend big now we're in the championship and this window is the last chance to really try and upgrade what is effectively a League One squad.AFKABartram said:

If we don't recent performances and results indicate we'll be heading straight back and kicking off against Bromley next season.
The epic start and points accumulated in early part of the season has given a cushion meaning this is a somewhat avoidable relegation IF we strengthen the squad which is wholly inadequate to compete at this level for 46 games. Im usually quite optimistic/ rose tinted but it's clear to see form recent performances, lack of quality across the squad and a lack of cover for injuries that we're inadequately equipped heading into the final third of the season as of today.
Maybe gambling on sheffield Wednesday and 2 finishing below us but having seen our performances and reaults in the six pointers over Christmas that's a risky gamble.
Yes Millwall were very good Saturday and we were very poor but it also indicates how much we've deteriorated since we drew with them at our place a few short months ago.
Can't blag it in this league transfer/squad wise and we're being found out.
We've no divine right to be in this league but surely we should be making a far better fist of it recruitment wise than we have so far beyond our current mix of injury prone or inexperienced collection of players.
Need to bring in some real quality and in numbers over next few days otherwise we'll likely be taking a catastrophic step back in terms of momentum if we do go straight back down as a result.21 -
With projected income in the same district as your Millwall, Pompey, Stoke, Oxford, Hull, Watford, Swansea, Norwich, Blackburn, Sheff W, we should have been competitive in that market. With the exception of Oxford and Portsmouth, who are struggling badly and Wednesday who are a basket case, the rest are established clubs at this level, with years of Championship TV revenue and the ability to build the squad. Millwall struggle for a couple of years before getting to where they are12

I see the argument but there's more at play at those two clubs. Wrexham built a cult following and thus an income before getting to this level which means the input form the directors pockets is slightly less.AFKABartram said:

With Birmingham there a property game at stake they are not interested in Birmingham FC they want the new stadium for concerts and revenue, the shops and property development and having a football club on side helps this aim.
We have neither of these to offer and thus find ourselves having to slowly establish.1 -
Over the rest of the season that works out to about 200k in wages. Not sure there's many decent quality Championship level players about that we'd get for that.AndyG said:

But projected income for the year ahead, which is basically all every club can plan and budget against, will be similar.Rothko said:With projected income in the same district as your Millwall, Pompey, Stoke, Oxford, Hull, Watford, Swansea, Norwich, Blackburn, Sheff W, we should have been competitive in that market. With the exception of Oxford and Portsmouth, who are struggling badly and Wednesday who are a basket case, the rest are established clubs at this level, with years of Championship TV revenue and the ability to build the squad. Millwall struggle for a couple of years before getting to where they areWe actually had the advantage as we we would have have huge budget headroom off a base of most of the squad still on contracts with a L1 wages profile. It’s similar to when we were 3-4 years in the Prem and Curbs would say we were struggling to compete in the market with clubs like Reading being promoted as they then had promotion windfall + budget headroom to play with.1
