Our net spend was always going to be high as we have no players of any significant worth which we would sellChris_from_Sidcup said:For those moaning we're not spending money, look at where we are in this seasons 'net spend' table (probably a bit outdated with some recent clubs signings in this window).
And in terms of actual money spent, we spent more than 12 other clubs in the division.

Haha.... ok then..... unless.... the Surrey lot are trying to sell to a turkey lot who only want him in the summer and........ no, ok then...... bring on the shot down in flames giffenaddick said:
Can't see why the JRS/Turkey thing would make sense as we'd be negotiating with the Surrey lot but there's lots of ex EFL talent out there. Fukuda's contract was due to run out this month but he's signed an extension with his clubWrightCharlie said:
A bit out of left field but I'm wondering if Chapples visit to Turkey could have been something to do with facilitating a JRS loan until the end of the season........ where's that clutching at straws gif when you need it!
And whether his visit to Japan was anything to do with getting Fukada when his contract runs out in the summer....?

Which is a fair point, but the fact remains we have still spent money. We just spent it badly.AberystwythAddick said:

In fact if i'm the owner looking at a manager who spent money on Kelman, Apter, Tanto and JRC and 3 of them barely play and the other isn't currently starting, and you add that to the money wasted on Ahadme last season, i'd probably be thinking 'do i really want to give him more money to spend'.

A 22yr old Kenyan CB from the Serbian league for £1.5m ish feels way too random to not be legit.10

Depends how you spend your 10 million, do nothing with it and its a lot of money, bring in 2/3 good players that are a success and its not a lot.elbiglad said:
I totally agree, and am not an advocate of that strategy. I would love them to spend money and improve the squad drastically. But we have been told that is unlikely to happen.thenewbie said:
Fair point. But the question is then would being promoted/relegated on a regular/semi-regular basis actually BE sustainable as a club? The budget and costs would have to be reassessed for each league and we have the problem we have right now - a good league one team that we never manage to actually evolve into a viable Championship side.elbiglad said:I don't mean to sound patronising, but I think some people's understanding of the nature of the transfer market, i.e how much players are paid, how easy it is to spend money and stay within regulations, is about 15-20 years out of date.
The board have made it clear they want us to be a sustainable football club and as much as that may frustrate us as fans, that is the approach. That does mot mean desperately throwing money around in January. It is not lip service when basically every working manager talks about how hard it is to buy in January: players are over valued and good players are unavailable. I am fully aware of our situation and the dire need for recruitment but it has been made clear what the approach will be.
I just see people speaking about how much money £10m is for one window, and whilst it is a lot for us in this league it really isn't that much. People are annoyed that we MAY pay Coady £12.5k a week, but - again - in this league it really isn't that much. We are close to the bottom of the food chain. We have to work our way up.
It is not sustainable to buy and loan out six months later, obviously. Just because the Board have committed to that strategy it does not mean they will get it right; there is another discussion to be had about the capabilities of the people in charge.
Yes it is annoying that Apter and Oloafe may go out on loan, but their fees are sunk costs. If their wages and squad slots could be used elsewhere and it allows us to get players in who help us NOW it may make sense to facilitate their moves.
For all the corporate talk of KPIs last week, I think we need to display some nimble decision making. The land has shifted. We are now in a situation where a lack of investment could mean dire consequences. No company should be happy to be ahead of KPIs at the halfway stage if 62.5% of the returns (points) were acquired in Q1. That to me shows we are trending in one way and actions need to be taken. It appears the board have done their risk assessment and are happy to proceed without significant investment.0 -

Coady been spotted earlier on today at Euston.
Reliable source.

There must be a Serbian agent using AI to formulate rumours about his players and the LLM is picking up that we’re desperate for new signings. The agent “leaks” this to a “journalist” and then puts pressure on their current club to give them a new contract/drum up interest from other clubs.3

It’s Alan Nixon so take with a pinch of salt but interesting that he also thinks we’ve bid for this Kenyan defender0 -

Any chance of an attacking midfielder?2 -
Removed your image for quoting purposes but this highlights an issue to overcome when recruiting abroad, obviously the club will be using better datasets than we can but I imagine it's hard to know what data from the Serbian league is accurate.Braziliance said:
Edit, just realised I was looking at the wrong % 🤦 . Point about datasets sort of stands maybe?1 -
In all seriousness, he definitely has the athletic profile that Nathan Jones would look for in a defender. I’m not sure how transformative he will be to our season though, not easy joining the championship from abroad, especially mid seasonNabySarr said:https://youtu.be/QTfF24yZYHM?si=EnNWuDMy-BE7cPjPObligatory YouTube compilation making him look like prime Virgil Van Dijk if anyone wants to get over-excited about Sichenje1 -
I think he might be the best player in the world. Conor Coady doesn't need legs if he's playing next to him.NabySarr said:https://youtu.be/QTfF24yZYHM?si=EnNWuDMy-BE7cPjPObligatory YouTube compilation making him look like prime Virgil Van Dijk if anyone wants to get over-excited about Sichenje7
