We're buying him for the future. ⏰NabySarr said:
In all seriousness, he definitely has the athletic profile that Nathan Jones would look for in a defender. I’m not sure how transformative he will be to our season though, not easy joining the championship from abroad, especially mid seasonNabySarr said:https://youtu.be/QTfF24yZYHM?si=EnNWuDMy-BE7cPjPObligatory YouTube compilation making him look like prime Virgil Van Dijk if anyone wants to get over-excited about Sichenje0 -
also seems to specialise in desperate last ditch clearances which could come in handy - especially when playing alongside Gillesphey.NabySarr said:

Now I am not a betting man, but seeing as there are about 150 links on Google saying he is signing for Charlton, I am going out on a limb and saying he is signing for Charlton.5 -
It is an anagram for USE NOT - so I suspect we'll be signing him for sureblackpool72 said:Coady been spotted earlier on today at Euston.

Been saying this for months & if it happens no doubt some of our "better" players will be looking to move on & we'll be starting from scratch again.RodneyCharltonTrotta said:
Bang on. False economy to not spend big now we're in the championship and this window is the last chance to really try and upgrade what is effectively a League One squad.AFKABartram said:
Not seeking perfection at all, but why are we a low budget Championship club?stoneroses19 said:No offence, but fair few of you need to take a breath and a reality check. We are a low budget Championship side. The constant daily moaning demanding perfection is exhausting to read.I get the frustration has grown ten-fold since Saturday, it was a pathetic and unacceptable display. But moaning about every single thing the club try to do with player recruitment is ridiculous. They bring in young up-and-coming players, you moan we needed experience. They try to bring in experience, you moan they're not fast enough. We are not going to drop millions of pounds this month on the high Championship quality players you want/expect/demand.I get there’s a disparity to clubs with parachute payments, though in many cases they’ll be at full quota budget and aiming to budget reduce not increase. Those are Sheff U, Southampton, Ipswich, Leicester. But I don’t get what was the purpose of billionaires buying a high loss making L1 club if the goal wasn’t to at base be established at mid-Champ level.
Upgrading a no thrills L1 squad to be that was always going to need decent budget, not be bottom of the rung. With projected income in the same district as your Millwall, Pompey, Stoke, Oxford, Hull, Watford, Swansea, Norwich, Blackburn, Sheff W, we should have been competitive in that market.Easy to say when it’s not my money. But I’m not one of the billionaires who bought it. At least with Birmingham’s billionaires and Wrexham’s millionaires I can understand their strategy.
If we don't recent performances and results indicate we'll be heading straight back and kicking off against Bromley next season.
The epic start and points accumulated in early part of the season has given a cushion meaning this is a somewhat avoidable relegation IF we strengthen the squad which is wholly inadequate to compete at this level for 46 games. Im usually quite optimistic/ rose tinted but it's clear to see form recent performances, lack of quality across the squad and a lack of cover for injuries that we're inadequately equipped heading into the final third of the season as of today.
Maybe gambling on sheffield Wednesday and 2 finishing below us but having seen our performances and reaults in the six pointers over Christmas that's a risky gamble.
Yes Millwall were very good Saturday and we were very poor but it also indicates how much we've deteriorated since we drew with them at our place a few short months ago.
Can't blag it in this league transfer/squad wise and we're being found out.
We've no divine right to be in this league but surely we should be making a far better fist of it recruitment wise than we have so far beyond our current mix of injury prone or inexperienced collection of players.
Need to bring in some real quality and in numbers over next few days otherwise we'll likely be taking a catastrophic step back in terms of momentum if we do go straight back down as a result.1 -
It may be that that is the budget to avoid going over the FFP rules, and it's breaking them that has got lots of clubs into trouble leading to points deductions.blackheathaddick said:I'm with AFKA here. I understand that "if" we operate within our budget, which is deemed bottom 3, then the players we are looking at make sense. What I don't understand is "why" we have that budget. I mean what is the point? It just seems a really odd strategy to get promoted, then put the absolute minimum in needed to be competitive, and hope that's enough, with a genuine risk that we get relegated and have to start again.I agree that spending is no guarantee of success, but not spending is a pretty sure fire way of not succeeding. We gave ourselves the best chance by starting really well, but the lack of depth and injuries have shown we just don't have the quality to survive, unless we are proactive and get ahead of it. We shouldn't be sitting at the end of Jan wondering whether we are "lucky" enough to sign Conor Coady. It's an odd high risk strategy.0 -
Cawley just posted inferring a lot is going on - not short of news, stuff in motion.22

There's a bit of me that wonders if we came up too quickly. Yes, I know it sounds weird, but from being in a complete mess for many years, our rise has been, in football-season terms, quick. As clubs outside the top few have demonstrated, the only way up these days seems to be selling players, re-investing and selling again; Brum and Wrexham are unusual. League One clubs need a player they can sell for £5-10m so that they can re-invest and move up to the next level by selling a player for £20m, then £30m, etc. Without doing the necessary research, that's how it appears Brighton, Brentford and Bournemouth are competing in the Premier League. Does it now apply to the Championship? I suspect it does.1

I thought Burke did ok in the match last week when he covered for Jones in the second halfThemightyath2 said:The Coady signing is fine, but ONLY if it’s to provide cover for LJ.
If Lloyd is out, we have no decent cover in the centre of a back three.
That’s the only reason he should be signed.

People are begging for creative midfielders etc but we all know this is not Nathan Jones game. He has never been a manager who will be scoring loads. He likes clean sheets and grabbing goals. We saw this last season and it doesn't change. Just gotta believe he's building from the back again.1

Thats no problem, we'll have until Monday to loan him back.NabySarr said:

Burkes injury record is enough to make me want another option. Would then potentially free up Gough to go out on loan.sam3110 said:

Our net spend was always going to be high as we have no players of any significant worth which we would sellChris_from_Sidcup said:For those moaning we're not spending money, look at where we are in this seasons 'net spend' table (probably a bit outdated with some recent clubs signings in this window).
And in terms of actual money spent, we spent more than 12 other clubs in the division.

I imagine he means through physicality and by being an expert at winning second balls, not by being a playmaking genius.Chunes said:
