Bearing in mind we have a game on Saturday, we have a depleted squad and it looks like we are going to go into the Leicester game with the same squad that capitulated to Millwall.AndyG said:Bearing in mind tomorrow is Thursday and we have 4 days left of the window the amount of players we need to sign must mean it’s leading up to super Friday lol3 -
That's the level of quality that I would be after yes.DOUCHER said:
Rak saki - break the bank and pay the signing on fee if we stay up - we have to make the leap into the big wages / fees at some point or accept we’re going downMarcusH26 said:Not impressed with the Apter loan at all. I loved watching Naby Sarr play and always love the cult hero type players. hence the username. The mistakes were part of the overall Naby experience, and how many players can you say you’ve seen score from 25 yards in a Charlton shirt at Wembley? Similarly I’m not going to hate Ramsay for getting sent off and costing us a win against them this season either. Mistakes happen but they were both part of great promotion winning teamsDOUCHER said:
Just out of interest, and I don’t mean this confrontationally but does the fact that nabby sarr was responsible for our last defeat at Millwall and that he scored an own goal in the previous play off final not bother u with your username ? Every time I see it I think of his failure to jump the last time at the den - it’s not good for trying to forget - same could be said of my moniker of course but at least it was about getting rid of douchatalet, not in support ofNabySarr said:
I don’t think anyone Jones wants to keep will leave this window. Could definitely see Ramsay being sold in the summer as would only have a year left, and then the Kenyan is our successorThomasOliver3 said:The Kenyan looks an interesting athletic profile, tall, pacey, progressive passing.
When I watched the highlights he reminded me of Ramsey could he be back up to him or is there more than just rumours to him leaving this month. Selling Ramsey for £3-4m feels more likely than Lloyd to me.
Maybe generating cash to spend elsewhere?1 -
As far as I’m concerned Jones can do one . What does he have against players who have quality and skill . I look forward to a couple of overweight , crocked defenders from Luton coming in .16

He doesn’t like their defensive weaknesses.Bedsaddick said:As far as I’m concerned Jones can do one . What does he have against players who have quality and skill . I look forward to a couple of overweight , crocked defenders from Luton coming in .
The issue is he probably takes that too far. Still tries going with two defensive wing backs, but they just puts even more pressure on us when we have a team who treat the ball like a hot potato.3 -
I really can’t think of a manager we’ve had in the last 40 years who’s been so afraid of playing any form of positive attacking football other than hoofball.Scoham said:

Apter gets player of the month, inexplicably dropped after that.
Plays well at LWB against Oxford despite being in the wrong position, inexplicably dropped after that.
Despite both of these, he remains one of our two highest for both chances created and expected assists. Glaring indictment of Jones' man management, and his aversion to any creativity. With our football so boring, so genuinely bleak, it almost feels like attempting to speedrun a killing of fan morale after the high that was promotion.19 -
Who you bringing in to replace him?Bedsaddick said:

Wow, what a lovely piece of work you are. Btw Sarr had had a storming game before that and was arguably fouled anyway, and has cult hero status for so many reasons, and was a lovely guy. Yet oh no, can't use his name for a username cos he's a Traitor or something. Pathetic mentalityDOUCHER said:

This is one of those posts to put a pin in to come back to when we sneak into the playoffs in May with a new look side.Bedsaddick said:As far as I’m concerned Jones can do one . Yes, we all know he is the next Ronaldo. All our players are wonderful once they are no longer in the matchday team and crap once they actually play. There has been clamour for Knibbs, Rankin-Costello, Berry, Tanto, Fullah and Anderson to be selected, and what happens when they are?fenaddick said:
Tanto maybe but Apter we don't know about. With regular game time he has the chance to work on the things NJ doesn't like about him. There's also always the chance we change manager within the next 18 months and Apter is back in the fold. His issue has never been talent but about fitting in an NJ team.wolfgang said:
I cannot follow your logic. We already know that money was wasted. Their going or staying does not alter that either way.Lincsaddick said:BigDiddy said:... if Apter and Tanto go, even on loan, it indicates how much money was wasted over the summer transfer window
That does not contradict what I wrote. If Jones goes, the next manager could always recall Apter from loan. No point in him moping about here now. He ain't gonna play under Jones, and we could use his slot and a bit saved on wages for a new signing who might be some bloody use. And Apter might enjoy life more if he is playing. He could shine in League One, which would benefit him and us. And Linda.4 -
As I’ve said before is go for Dave Challoner at Stockport but if we had to go down the ex Charlton route I’d ask Powell even though he’s said he wouldn’t manage again.TheHerminator said:

Naby Sarr was no more than 10% responsible for the own goal.Leuth said:

I agree it’s unlikely but if we stayed up that’s three consecutive seasons with success & over achieving! You reward this with a sacking!? That’s probably why before Jones took the helm Charlton to be fair were run like a pub team.TheHerminator said:

Odd decisions being made at the moment. Worrying if he's managed to fall out with Apter and Docherty.1

Why is this always the response to anyone that thinks Nathan Jones has run his course? Do you think Boro fans had heard of Hellberg or Hull fans of Jakirovic?TheHerminator said:

I just don't get the aversion to creativity. How are we supposed to create chances for the likes of Godden, Leaburn and Kelman with no one with a final ball in the squad. We're going to end up with a bunch of workman-like midfielders hoping to nick something off a setpiece.WattsTheMatter said:Apter gets player of the month, inexplicably dropped after that.

To let them go out suggests we have agreed the incomings.Gamble otherwise if the dominoes don’t fall right.3

For what it’s worth, I agree. Apter looked promising, not indispensable and when the going got tough very, very quickly for us (5 straight defeats, the second of which was Southampton where he started), that was never going to be the environment for a creative but not very physical winger/wing back in our team and especially one who had never played at this level. I didn’t think Bree was spectacular but he was a massive upgrade in terms of what we need - experience, physicality and some good goal/assist numbers behind him initially.
The fact that Apter has gone back to League One (for me) is proof of that. Let’s hope we stay up, he has a storming loan spell back up north and then we can reconvene with him in the summer with a much more solid base to work from and he can become one of the main men in our team (if he is good enough).4 -
Won’t be seeing Apter again, Bolton will be promoted and they’ll sign him on a permanent, they won’t cock it up like us, good luck Rob, sorry we put you through this…🤦8
-
I'm sure we'll get in some excellent plodders that 'work hard'.
All quality and creativity to be pushed out of the door in exchange for 'hard work'.8 -
Apter out on loan is a fucking joke... We better have something good lined up.
Bolton are going to be mustard with Apter and CBT on either wing in league 111 -
Great move for Apter, he will play, is close to home and a sensible choice by the club. Bolton have a real chance of going up. I am sure if he does well they will want to sign him on a perm which is suspect is also in the clubs thinking

Odds on we couldn’t get things over the line comment once we’ve streamlined. If they cock this window up and we come out of it weaker NJ/Rodwell will deserve any criticism towards them. They need to get this right.5
-
Just echoing the above really. Arguably the most creative player in the whole squad shipped out.Hope he does well and we can either recoup a fee or he kicks on here. I’d love it to be the latter.4

It's the NJ way or high way at the moment...
